nv.f officially, the American studio's statement was it did bad in Japan so they were allowed to dub it anyway they wanted. that was bullshit tho. think about it. 1) the anime still has reruns in Japan to this day and 2) what studio would be dumb enough to dub a bad show or anime that had bad feedback? no matter how u look at it, its a bad business decision (which means the whole "it did bad in Japan" is just them talking shit out their ass)

@@themustardman219 If you mean exist on TV, yeah, it likely wouldn't be allowed to be aired, but not even back then would this have been allowed (if not guaranteed wouldn't be allowed). Shows like Family Guy, The Boondocks, and especially South Park are riddled with controversy for the type of humor they often use. This is a much higher level than any of those, really, so even back then, something like this would never even been aired. After all, this one was purposely meant to offend as shock humor and satire practically throughout each and every episode. But to exist in general? Didn't this dub exist around the mid 2000s? Like 2005/2006? I think KZbin animated videos as satirical as this existed back then, if I remember correctly. Besides, around the time this dubbing was released for this series, it was not received very well, and it took years for this to at least have a cult following now. I would that nowadays, the public has been more lenient to stuff like this, else people would have very much complained about how very offensive this is, just like they did to quite a few other comedy series back then.

Offensive comedy is a power tool. like most power tools, it can be incredibly useful and beneficial for everyone when used correctly, but everybody (especially the irresponsible) wants to give it a try, an unskilled user is likely to injure themselves and others in a moment of sheer carelessness. The reason some offensive jokes are funny and others aren't is that absurdism disarms offensiveness. Absurdism is safety gear for using offensive comedy. Just like making sure no one is close enough to get injured when using a chainsaw, absurdity removes reality from the topics around the offensive elements of a joke. once you are sure that everyone knows that what you say next is absurd, and that you agree that it is absurd, you are free to say anything. In this show, it is simply used (though severely ineffective in places) to disarm the comedy so as to allow for edgier jokes, but in the hands of an expert, the ability to use absurdism to say anything allows them to say things that are so wrong they need to be heard. Humor is a form of logic. In the right hands, an offensive statement made via absurdism can show people how truly offensive and wrong a way of thinking is, without needing to set up the traditional and formal reductio ad absurdum format, and communicate the truth in such a way that is easily approachable. I haven't seen the movie, but I have been told that "blazing saddles" uses this method of commentary to great effect. Because absurdist offensive humor can be so difficult to do right, it's a dangerous and edgy style of comedy. Understanding this, and understanding the democratization of comedy over the lifespan of the internet due to meme culture, it's easy to see why humor has moved more towards jokes that drop the offensive aspects and lean more heavily on absurdism. that's why we get memes like "me and the boys at 3 AM looking for beans!" these days. After all, nonsense that is clearly written as nonsense is not only victimless, but the fact that everyone is aware of the consequences of their actions and cares enough to not only share what made them smile but to ensure that no one is hurt makes pure absurdism an uplifting and kind-hearted form of comedy, even if it limits the ability of comedy to be used as a tool for illustrating the wrongs of society. In conclusion, offensive comedy isn't inherently bad, but it is never neutral. It's either hurtful by intent like that one guy we all know, lack of intent like an overwhelming amount of 2000's humor, or it's specifically being used in such a way that allows it to call out society for ignoring problems that have become status quo. shock humor without absurdism is another thing entirely, and I could write an essay on that topic, so it's probably best not to write that in the comments.

Thanks so much for this Informative Comment! You've helped enlighten me more. It is especially such a great breath of air to see, amid the waves of people who either: A) Use humour as an excuse to be bigots, and constantly accuse the targets of their negative statements, of being "humourless" or "sensitive"(Despite that all Humans naturally feel humour anyway, and can feel negatively affected by something/anything in particular or another, anyway) or, B) Behave in overly intolerant manner, not wanting to see the absurdity in what's been said, and may wish to take control of what people find funny, along with dishing out their own set of negative accusations.(Despite the fact that it's nigh impossible to control someone's sense of humour) Your analogy of "using a chainsaw...making sure no one is close enough to get injured..."? I Loved it! It's such a great way to describe the nuances of humour, that more and more people aught to understand. Upon pondering on the issue of humour further from a wider lens, I genuinely believe the reality is that the problem with modern humor online, especially within western cultures, is not at all that, "People these days are too sensitive!" or that, "People these days are just Bigots!", It goes far deeper than that...the true problem is, that for whatever reason, we have become obsessed with perceiving humor in the form of Two Extremes. Imagine, if you will that Humour is rubber-band, and that we've stretched that rubber-band from both sides. Remember happens to a rubber-band if you pull it too hard? It breaks! Now, what If you pull a rubber-band too hard to the right? It breaks! But then, what if you pull a rubber-band too hard to the left? It will still break! We need ease up the pressure on the rubber-band, and have fun with it whilst also being careful to pull the rubber-band otherwise it'll snap, or it'll get sent flying away... and where would be the fun in that?

@@akay_g9 I have an author I can recommend, and he's pretty insightful on a ton of issues, but also hilarious. the name is Terry Pratchett, and he wrote amazing, heartfelt, irreverent, wise, and all around fantastic books. his "Discworld" series is some of the, if not the best comedy fantasy out there, and if you've heard of "good omens", that tv series is based on one of his books as well (though not the Discworld books). here are just a few quotes from his books: {“Fortune favours the brave, sir," said Carrot cheerfully. "Good. Good. Pleased to hear it, captain. What is her position vis a vis heavily armed, well prepared and excessively manned armies?" "Oh, no-one's ever heard of Fortune favouring them, sir." "According to General Tacticus, it's because they favour themselves," said Vimes. He opened the battered book. Bits of paper and string indicated his many bookmarks. "In fact, men, the general has this to say about ensuring against defeat when outnumbered, out-weaponed and outpositioned. It is..." he turned the page, "'Don't Have a Battle.”} {“Cheery was aware that Commander Vimes didn't like the phrase 'The innocent have nothing to fear', believing the innocent had everything to fear, mostly from the guilty but in the longer term even more from those who say things like 'The innocent have nothing to fear'.”} {“History was full of the bones of good men who'd followed bad orders in the hope that they could soften the blow. Oh, yes, there were worse things they could do, but most of them began right where they started following bad orders.”}

Aniplex, who owned the series' western distribution rights, approached ADV Films to produce an English dub......Aniplex gave the ADV Films staff very few constraints when writing the new version, the only rules were "don't change the character names (including the ghosts); don't change the way the ghosts are slain (a reference to Japanese folklore) and, finally, don't change the core meaning of each episode".

This is the type of thing where you just stop looking for things to be angry about and watch with your friends. It's like a comedy show. It's to make people laugh. This dub achieves this by being as diverse with their jokes as they can while maintaining a consistence story.

You can imagine, the studio just received this piece of art on their desk, someone just slammed it and the one responsible was so tired, done with everything, very drained and looked like he needed at least a two months hibernation. Then from his tired lips you can hear a faint: *Idgaf, do whatever... but do it* And then that person left the studio to lay on a beach with a daikiri on hand, because it was well deserved.

YESSS thank you Queen for listening l remember requesting this one, l actually have another request if once you've finished Attack on Titan could you maybe check out Hellsing Abridged (since you might not know what an abridged series is it's just a fan dub over an anime purely as a parody) it's only 10 episodes long too so it shouldn't be too bad after you finish Attack on Titan. Oh and if you do react to it the series is by TeamFourStar (TFS) on KZbin
