Lol,I work in a pet store and young Jaiden and her cousin sound like the perfect excited pet parents. Although I love my job and educating others on care,sometimes throwing in fun facts for some extra wonder...I wish more people would be as enthusiastic about researching new little buddies. Pets are a big responsibility and some are better fits than others. Trust me when I say we remember the families that did prior research because its always the most exciting experience helping a pet go home to a prepared family and seeing the excitement on the new owner's faces.

Yes! People need to do their research. My parents got 2 bearded dragons about 2 years ago, but they didn’t research because they figured that they’d be easy to take care of. But she got bearded dragon babies, and those guys needed to eat like, 60 crickets a day. The pet store worker told her “you only need to feed em 5 crickets a day, you don’t want em getting fat, do you?” Eventually while my mom was refilling their salads (The beardies also shared one small cage which was not a good idea, very territorial) one of ‘em got protective of the food and bit the other one, breaking her leg. After that incident my mom did her research and they’re doing good now. I’m planning on getting a horse or a cow one day, and I’m doing my research early becuase I really want to be prepared for em.

This is my first time watching this video since I've been able to really relate to Jaiden and her experience with getting Ari. i had an obsession with birds, too starting when i was 10 (i'm 16 now). my mom was afraid of birds so it took a while but my parents have always had a rule if like me or my brother want a specific pet: we're responsible for the research. like our parents will pay for it and help with costs or whatever but we have to know the specifics of what animal we have. and now i have two conures named maverick (green cheek) and nugget (sun cheeked)

I honestly went through something similar. It started with cats, which did end up happening when two strays followed us home from a walk. Unfortunately one died about a year into having them. But the other one lived throughout my teenage years into my early adulthood. I miss that cat ;;. After my cat phase came the horse phase.. Yeah I really wanted a horse for a good couple years and I had so many books on how to care for them. Then I went through a bird phase that also lasted a few years, books, KZbin videos, even went to a class on how to care for them! My current desire and the one that's lasted the longest is snakes. When my wife and I get our own house I'm going to adopt a snake. I love reptiles and snakes are my favorite animals!

Jaiden, there's a really good manga series called "Birdmen" that ran in Weekly Shounen Sunday. The premise is almost identical to Maximum Ride, although the stories are vastly different. It indeed is about teens who grew wings and telepathic abilities, on the run from evil scientist organization that wants to capture and experiment on them.

I've been living with cats my entire life, and for most of my childhood, also chickens. We had chickens in our backyard/huge garden, and though we had a small house for them and a small fenced enclosure, we'd pretty much every day let them out of the enclosure and wander around in the rest of our garden (our lot has a wall of trees surrounding our garden, a pretty clear border for our animals), and they were happy. We also tended to take some of the fertilized eggs inside the house and put under a lamp when they were about ready to hatch, so we kids could watch it happen. I remember watching "Disney Sjov" during Fridays, and suddenly hearing "Chirp! Chirp!" from the kitchen, and I'd just abandon the show and race out to watch the hatching process. And that was before pausing live TV existed, so I was willingly missing out on the rest of the program to see chicks hatching from their eggs. I'm also autistic, if that adds to anything. ;P Towards the end of my childhood, maybe when I was around 10 or 12 or so, our chickens got old and stopped laying eggs though, and we decided to not get any more, so we, uh, ate the rest and now we just have had cats. I definitely always wanna have cats in my life, even when I eventually move out from home, I want a cat, or maybe two, coz it's come to my attention that 2 cats are better than one (watch Jackson Galaxy, great explanations on cats), and I'm not against having two cats! :3 Other than cats though, I have been fantasizing about having some other, more unusual pets, like a preying mantis (one of my favorite insects, they are so cool), an ostrich (coz the eggs are like dragon eggs and I liked imagining riding a fully grown ostrich to school or work), a chicken or duck (the process of hatching an egg and then raising the chick as your child is just wholesome and amazing to me), a fox (my favorite animal, kinda like a mix between cats and dogs, tho I was sad to later learn they don't make good pets), a pig (they are very smart, I grew up watching Babe and actually really like pigs), a milksnake or a black-headed python (the first one looks like a coral snake but is harmless, the second one is just GORGEOUS, I mean look it up! and of course harmless aside from constricting and having a strong bite I guess), a mouse or rat (I just think they're cute), and some other things. I'm not a huge fan of dogs, I do think they look cute and cool and some like huskies are gorgeous, but they have too much energy and are too loud for my timid self, I prefer the chill cats that I can much better relate to, since basically all cats are autistic. Though if I ever were to get a dog, I've always thought I wanted something that looks like a wolf, like a Siberian Husky, or something that looks like a fox... not sure if there is a dog that looks like that. Maybe Shiba Inu. I like the asthetics of dogs with pointy ears, they look more natural than the ones with floppy ears, those look too "man-made", which they basically are, coz dogs have evolved alongside humans, and humans have intentionally made dogs look the way they look. Having a pet eagle would also be really cool. But I'd probably just make do with two cats, and maybe a mantis and/or a snake, perhaps a bearded dragon (they're cool too), and maybe fish. Fish are relaxing to look at. So that's my pet list for when I move out. Two cats, a preying mantis, a milksnake, a bearded dragon/monitor lizard maybe, and an aquarium with fish in it. Should be doable. >:3

I remember I used to have 2 beta fish at the age of 10 and sometimes I would forget to feed them. The cool thing is my sister or dad would feed them for me when I forgot. one day I saw one of the fish had eyes that were foggy, and I got a plastic spoon and scooped her up and she didn't move. Eventually I figured out she was dead (by the way both of the fish were girls, and their names were sunset and scarlet) and I told my dad, so he buried her (sunset was the dead one). When scarlet died her eyes were foggy too and instead of burring her, I flushed her down the toilet and I miss them. (sorry this comment is so long)

I know the time this video came out but I just rewatched it and saw the end about how your parents were responsible and didn’t give you any pets just because you asked for one. And it immediately reminded me of my grandma. My household is big, but not huge. We have pets but their manageable. I personally, am glad my mother didn’t as I had the exact same phase but it was load more different. (I was obsessed with all things reptiles and amphibians but I’ve grown and I’ve learned how to not be so obsessed but I still love them) and since my grandma moved in. I'm literally cackling this is essentially me as a kid. Love my animals. I now live on a hobby farm with my mini goats, giant rabbits and an aussiedoodle named Wolfie. Yeah, that's what I was obsessed with. I had several hamsters as a kid (never at the same time though) and they are fairly easy to care for and don't have the creepy tails. You can even potty train them somewhat (get them to go in one spot at least) so I would just scoop the litter in the potty spot and remember to feed them. They can become quite sweet as long as you regularly handle them and wash your hands before (so you don't smell like food). I remember reading books about hamsters over and over, and that's how I found out how to potty train them and also how varied their diet can be. My hamsters ate banana chips, carrots, hard boiled eggs, cheese, lettuce...all kinds of treats. Plus, you can put them in balls and let them run around. Hamsters are a lot of fun.

Jaiden, when you set up a new fishtank, the tank has to sit for a long time to build up good bacteria to keep your fish alive. I usually would take my old filter pad from an already good tank, and plop that into the new tanks filter, and it would be cycled. If you don't have that option, I put a few pieces of fish food in to cause bacteria to form whi h causes good bacteria to form after. If you don't do either of these and just let the tank sit, like i did once, it took literally like 4 months to cycle. If ur parents set up that tank new to get you fish, then that's why they kept dying

Fish are definitely a bit difficult. A couple of tips. Your first fish in your new aquarium are going to definitely have a hard time. But some methods to help are use water that is the same temp as the store, when you're carrying them home keep the bag they come in in a shopping bag and secured, it keeps the water from moving to much. When you get home keep them in the bag and put the whole bag into the aquarium. (Make sure the water isn't too high of course if it starts to get close to overflowing pull some water out and just replace it with the water in the bag) This allows the fish to adapt to the new water temperature gradually instead of getting pushed into the lukewarm water into the possibly colder water. But yeah feeding them is also important but also don't overfeed them. (One of my problems lol)
