As you can see couple seconds prior to Baus diving his screen flashes red - indicating it is about to expire (similar to herald). The OP part is when enemy kills you they only get 100 gold so it is worth 'using' the effect aka trading 1 for 1 every single time EDIT: That's why Baus said in the video 'I dont wanna waste it'.
