Several inventors in the last few years have constructed condensers that pull water out of the air (called an air well) that then can be stored. For as bad as things are, there are innovations being made that will be world changing.

I've done that. It doesn't work out well for long term storage. The bottles are not up to that sort of storage. I had leaks all over the carpet and mildew because of course I didn't catch it when it first happened. Switched to the 7 gallon jugs Jason was showing.

I have a large swimming pool. It is my water reservoir for SHTF. We get plentiful rain here, so it never goes dry. Of course, it would go into a Berkey or Katadyn before anyone used that water. It is just the "last resort", if my water stores get used up. It can also be used unfiltered, with flush toilets. We have septic, no sanitary sewer out here.

I always have emergency water stores Jason. I live in south East Asia in the country side and sometimes my running water would get cut off for hours especially if it rains hard in my area it might have to do with water pipes bursting like you have. I have water stored in my shower room in a clean garbage can water in my fridge and water in big bottles underneath one of my sinks good to last some hours until my running water comes back

I do live in FL and I have them outside actually: 200 gal in 3 tanks, 50-50-100. However I do rotate them every 6 months, one at a time to be safe in case a disaster happens when rotating, lol. The water treatment tablets I have is for SHTF scenario when I know I can’t rotate them anymore. However I do use rain water for rotation though, no shortage of rain to harvest. Edit. Also I know how much it affects or helps, but they get sun all the time and water is pretty warm all day. That should in theory kill some bacteria naturally

We actually have water delivery which uses 5-gallon water cooler bottles. We keep ten and keep them on rotation, so the oldest bottle is about 3 months old. In a SHTF situation, it is my understanding that even if the power goes out the water will still run for about 3 days, so I plan to immediately line the bathtubs with a plastic liner and fill the tubes in case the 50 gallons of bottled water isn't enough.
@WebbScoutLeader

Heads up. The water will turn off and not run if the SHTF. During the huge Midwest and eastern seaboard power failure back in the early 2000's peoples water turned off mid-shower. Dont bet on your understanding. When the $hit hit$ the fan the $hit hit$ the fan. Act accordingly. You're welcome.

Buy a drum or jug, etc., every weekend and you'll have a good supply. Then there is the last minute "Water Bob" that you place in a tub and fill up. I hate to buy all my water, so I'm totally on board with using bleach or filtering it. I think people forget that the purpose of water is to not only to drink, but also to wash clothing, dishes, clean things and to cook. I see people buy bottles of water, but for washing I store tap water.

@JasonHansonSpyBriefing I'm going to ultimately use then to build a mobile floating island by emptying them of water, ceiling them closed with air in them. Then I will be covering them in floating concrete/floating cement in a circular shape, putting that in the ocean and covering it in soil and grass and in garden spots in compost, then plant fruit trees and build a natural pool swim pond on it. Then I will boat tow it to the doldrums at the equator and anchor it there.

One of your kids turned on the spigot. Oh yeah, kids will be kids, especially boys. When our grandson was little, I took the handle off of our water heater drain for just that reason. He was very inquisitive and liked to fiddle with things and see how they work. (Not bad traits though; he's in H.S. now and wants to be a mechanical engineer.) So anybody out there storing water in the barrels with a spigot and little kids around...might not be a bad idea to remove the handle if possible. And don't forget, you have a lot of water available in your water heater too if things get rough. You'll DEFINITELY want a filter if you're draining water out of the drain valve on your water heater, there's a lot of sediment. Probably best to drain whatever water you need into a bucket, let the sediment settle, and then separate the water by slowly pouring it into another bucket or filter leaving most of the sediment in the bottom of the first bucket. Even if you drain your water heater annually like recommended, it's amazing how much sediment is in the bottom.
