deirdre It could have been done a LOT better- dealing with my brother in law is like dealing with the devil... he MAY do exactly what you ask. OR, he might decide HE knows best and he'll take over and do what HE thinks is best. Guess what happened here? :)

Also, sorry to be a bummer; is there anyway to return most of the parts? It will certainly beat your PC, but it isn't very good for the money. I could fit an i3 and R9 270 in that budget, which dominates what that build is.

Jason Egglestoneeh The parts were ordered by my brother in law on his business account with newegg, so no- I'm locked in. Wouldn't have mattered what *I* wanted tho- when my broher in law decides HE knows better there is NO way to change his mind shy of death. Once he saw the list he went and searched things out himself, ordered those. He ordered the parts etc for their number crunching, video rendering ability. So, yay. I didn't get much- well, ANY- say in the matter. :|

Congratulations! But... where's the graphics card??? Also, I hate to be a downer, but you don't need more than 16GB of RAM, unless you're doing AutoCAD or something.

The RPG Chick The graphics card is built in. Yay? It's a Radeon HD8000 or HD7000, the box isn't very clear. I would have rather have had an NVidia but when it comes to my brother in law, you hope for the best :|

***** Integrated graphics? Ummm, usually not too good. See how it runs with Skyrim and what-not, and if it's too slow, then consider selling 16GB of the RAM on eBay to put towards a dedicated graphics card. For gaming, you will not notice any difference above 16GB (games aren't designed to utilize that much), and very minimal difference from 8GB to 16GB. If you're going to splurge on anything, let it be the graphics card.

My purchasing isn't done yet, sadly. Yeah, it uses the Radeon HD7000/HD8000 chipset for graphics. AMD was eaten by ASUS, and AMD had eaten the RADEON card maker earlier. So yeah, I also need a graphics card. But tho, my laptop (my dead wife's laptop, before it died, after SHE died) had integrated graphics and it ran almost better than the graphics on my two NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GTX+ cards! So hard to say what's gonna happen...

***** You lost me with the whole "eaten" thing, not sure what you mean there. NewEgg and Amazon are having some good sales lately. Trading in the RAM might help, and the good news is that you have a strong enough power supply to handle even the new GTX 980 Ti that just came out. I can't afford that, myself, and I am presently struggling to scrounge up $500 for the Ti-less 980 model. GTX 750 Ti models are actually going for just above $100 and are a pretty good sweet spot for cost vs. performance. Good luck!

Well, what I meant was AMD "acquired" Radeon , now Radeon is just a small part of AMD... and AMD was "acquired" by ASUS, so now they are just a small part of ASUS. I won't be able to trade in the RAM- might as well just get used to having W-A-Y more RAM than is necessary :) I AM going to be buying another video card- I couldn't afford everything this one time. I'm planning on: new video card, TV tuner/capture card (I wanna cap my console games!), new webcam and then I Am DONE- the comp will be complete! I don't think I'll EVER get a $500 card :) I MIGHT be able to talk myself into a $200 card, I'll have to see :)

Get a 960 and you'll be fine an APU is bad for gaming.

+General Stone Star Gaming I have a feeling "bad" is kind of relative- yes, I have an APU but compared to the machines I have had in the past this is a GOD machine. It's actually an AMD 290 something something something :) for the card.

***** Okay, because gaming should have a dedicated card, I suggest picking up a GTX 660 or a GTX 960 because they are good for the price.
