What an interesting and simply faith-filled man Abbot Tryphon is! Feeling out of sorts and isolated this evening, listening to the two of you discussing different angles of the human need for connection with others and with God, was comforting & reassuring. Something real in a chaos filled world.

Thank you Joseph, it is always good to hear others points of view on various topics. Since I started to live for Christ and became a celibate my life is so peaceful, and yes we must love everyone, not the sin, but the person, the passions must be conquered, for love conquers all things and there really is no other way, in my opinion.

Finding where to place your stance on the matter of homosexuality is hard indeed. As a man who experiences same sex attraction exclusively, I was initially drawn to orthodoxy because of the hard line position (If you want to phrase it in that way) of church dogma. I.e, that sin is something we should strive to come away from, including but not limited to sexual perversion. If the church had been presented to me as "left", or to liberal to woke, I would have fled because I was looking for help from my sin. I was looking for something that was salt against the world not of the world. However their are those, and I was also one of them, who need loving acceptance and need a more delicate and soft education about same sex concerns. The idea that same sex attracted people are looking for love and intimacy, but in a twisted way that can be found more fully in the church might take more patience and a less overt stance. To much overtness may lead to them fleeing. My spiritual fr , Arch priest Timothy managed to tread the line very well and softly. He did affirm church position reluctantly whilst using his pastoral guidance and experience to help me understand my intentions better. That I wanted to love and be loved.That this is good and as for the twisted expression of How I was going about that desire, well if I can bare to resist do that. That is good. I am welcomed as I am to enter orthodoxy. I see now I did need that affirmation that I wasn't just a sinner but also a man wanting to love, yet I also needed to see the church dogma saying sin is something to come away from, including same sex attraction. Esp because everyone everywhere else I went kept telling me to embrace my sexual sin. Forgive me I am dyslexic Amen

Interesting to note ROCOR worldwide totals just a bit below the population of worldwide SSPX. It represents about 0.02% of Christians. It’s a very tiny tiny minority. Russian Orthodoxy as a whole is about ~4.5% of all Christians and all Eastern Orthodox combined make up just about 9% of all Christians. Compare this to the Catholic Church which is home to ~55% of all Christians.

Do the Orthodox approve of contraception?
@johnkehoe1067
@johnkehoe1067 3 жыл бұрын
They do. They don't have a central authority to condemn it. Pope Paul VI did definitively in Humanae Vitae. Sadly they don't accept anything definitive after the 11th century.
@andrew_1029
@andrew_1029 3 жыл бұрын
The Orthodox do not allow for contraception. The western diaspora and converts to Orthodoxy tend to be lenient on this issue it seems, but the exceptions don’t make the rule or for it to be right for the Church as a whole. Modernism is rampant in the Orthodox of the western world. Lord have mercy!

Thank you that was an interesting interview, but I would have to disagree with Abbot Tryphon on not putting out a statement opposing homosexual unions. The Vatican did it today and Im sure that it strengthened the faith of many Catholics. The Russian Orthodox i know also makes statements clarifying its positions.
@abbottryphon9398

We Orthodox clergy ultimately agreed that such a statement would have done nothing but convince the leftist citizens of Seattle that we Orthodox are no different than fundamentalist protestants. Not wanting to close the doors to the very people who need Orthodoxy was the basis of our decision. As I said in the interview, a priest would address the issue of homosexual sex in a pastoral setting.

I agree. Saying that the church is a hospital for sinners is not the full truth. It is weak and the same thing the pope said. You are dealing with sinners, yes, but you are also dealing with activists, tyrants who want to change the church.

Thank you Abbot Tryphon for pointing out that fornication is a sin too. The older I get, the more I can’t deal with men who are predators on women and womanizers and just use them like a consumer object. Thank you for pointing out fornication is a sin too. It’s odd that prolifers refuse to address any connection between fornication and abortion.

Hello Joseph. I have been listening/watching a tonne of your videos -especially your older videos - in the last couple or so weeks and I just want to thank you for doing God's Great Work. I have learned so much from your videos and have gotten very useful insights on what is needed to be truly compassionate to one's struggling neighbour. I just finished listening to a podcast you did about 2 years ago with a comrade of yours, John Cullum(sp??). It was FANTASTIC! Can I bother you to bring him on again please? God bless.
