The struggle is real. I took your comments under advisement on the honey lemon and found a textured fabric with stretch. However, I totally messed up the armor and let my daughter talk me into shoes that were screen accurate but too much for walking around a con. This year I'm avoiding new builds and working on improving my costumes and reworking some of the child's outgrown items.

Great to know that you can inspire people even with what you call failure. Please keep making videos and your success will be even greater. Helps to know not everthing comes out perfect all the time. Found another thing i love about your videos. You use common everyday tools that most of us have easy access to too make your costumes and props. No fancy laser cutters or 3D printers just regular tools that we all have or can borrow. Please keep up the great work even though i would imagine it's hard to keep coming up with new ideas. Love your work even what you think of as failures you manage to make them all look great.🎯

i have seen that this is not a new video but i like to say you are sooooo right. I am back in the game since 2017 but wenn i started the first time i had a lot of fails my first was a Gargoyle related to the series and i want to have that gigant wings. and i wand them to befoldable but i don´t realised 2 things. 1) my under-costruckt was made of two differnt materials that hardly been glued together. 2) i picked the heviest fabric just for color mach. i was hoping to save it by gevingup the foldingpart but than i realised i bearly could leve the room so it and up as a warning in my cabinet.

This is a really honest and useful video, there are so many amazing cosplayers out there (like yourself!) Whose cosplays look flawless and perfect on the outside, that's obviously usually all people get to see, and it can be intimidating or make others feel bad when they fail or struggle, seeing some of your "failures" I think will reassure other cosplayers that it happens to everyone and it's ok :) I "Oh no!" 'd out loud for you when you showed your ladybug suit!

This video was super helpful and encouraging :) I am way too much of a perfectionist when it comes to sewing, and all those mistakes you pointed out on your costumes would have bothered me just as much if I made them T_T But the most important part is the learning and growing. I started cosplaying this year and my first cosplay was Kitana (Mortal Kombat) and I was so happy about it and then I decided to make a Tracer (Overwatch) cosplay for January. Lord please help me. Here in Brazil stuff to make cosplay like worbla or anything really is SOOOOOO EXPENSIVE. so I'm still trying to get it right. Failure is normal and frustrating but you will be fine at the end of the day when you go to the con and have fun.

lort, i cant sew just yet but ive been making props, and my biggest prop was himiko from boku no hero academia, and i tell you what, even though most of it is legit recyled cans and foam pieces, probably my greatest accomplishment yet, yes it can be 100 times better but for not making huge props it turned great, also your costumes are beautiful "failures".

Hey hun an idea if you are having issues with corsets. Take an old t.shirt you do not wear and, have a friend help you rap you in duck tape. After you have rapped your chest up cut the shirt off and add it to mannequin it is an easy way to make sure (even if your not making a Corset) that you get the proper measurements for your bust

Failure was not too harsh of a word, but it was the wrong word to use for this. A failure is something you aren't able to use, or something you had to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch. This was only a list of major mistakes that prove you aren't perfect, but you didn't fail (accept for that washing machine thing 😁)

Funnyly, I ususally buy hugely extencive amounts of fabric, so that it would defly be enough. But there was 1 time I bought less fabric than needed for my elf costume and, same as you did, I checked the numer and name of fabric, I bought it, but when I compared to the one I already had, it appeared to have a little bit different hue. Why do you do this to us, fabric!
@kazolar6 жыл бұрын
I had just made a similar comment for another maker regarding failure. I always go into the project expecting the 1st iteration or the 1st idea will not work. So if it works, it's a happy accident, so when the 1st idea doesn't work, or 10th idea doesn't work, it's not failure -- it's the process. That sorta goes along with my personality, I don't give up, EVER. When I show my wife the complete project and tell her, look it works -- she acts like she expected it work all along, and I'm like -- you know this wasn't a given...the chances of this working were not particularly high -- but hell if I'm giving up, and no crying, remember it wasn't supposed to work, it's an idea -- iterate, iterate until it works -- or it looks like it works.
@nindroidtheories84894 жыл бұрын
This isn't much of a failure but somebody stole one of my Death The Kid guns that took hours to make at a convention- and they weren't very good since they were my very first prop- so we think it was stolen because somebody thought it would be funny to take on because of Kid's symmetry obsession- he can't use just one. Which also meant for me that I couldn't use the remaining gun in any photos. So yeah. Hours of work in the drain, and it wasn't even my fault. So basically, getting stressed over taking more time than planned to fix stuff, knowing that it could happen anyways makes it a little easier.

Honestly this is really helpful and eye opening. As a young person learning how to sew I inevitably make mistakes on my costumes and lately that’s been leading me down a path of frustration. I’d finish a costume only to immediately start picking it apart and pointing out all it’s flaws, completely ignoring what I had done well! Thanks for talking about this, perfectionism won’t get me anywhere and I’d do well to remember that :D
