The album tells a bit of a story based on a festival-like environment, opening with the band playing on a stage to a crowd, then moving on to songs about all the different people and friends, and thoughts about life and the meaning of life, in general. Also, its fun to note that in the video they made for "Hello, Goodbye" they are wearing their Sgt. Pepper outfits. Also, the movie "Yellow Submarine" is an animated story involving Sgt. Peppers Band, played by animated Beatles. In the movie, the "Lucy in the Sky" animated video is really quite beautiful.

Silas, the thing about the Beetles is "context". If you have access to SXM radio, listen to the 50s & 60s stuff. The popular music and radio play was, really "square". The Beetles changed music completely, (especially this album, recording tricks etc). Their first hits in 63 & 64 were unlike anything else. Add to that the "Beetle haircuts". Anyway, enjoy. I think some reactors hear The Beetles and think "I don't get it". It's context.

There is mountain of things to learn and read up on The Beatles, especially from Rubber Soul and onward, as many tracks have meanings that fly over peoples' heads, so it is good to look up before listening to appreciate and understand what the hell the songs are referencing.This is common with some other classic rock bands as well.

'BEAT-les' - ie the insect thing, after Buddy Holly and the Crickets, but with a new twist, referencing the 40s-60s Beat Movement in poetry, literature, music and anti-fashion/style. The lads were actually hired on at least one occasion (probably c1960-62?) to play back-up for a Beat poet in a live performance/event. They had to listen to the words and improvise whatever musical sounds they thought would fit!

I also like how raw it is and yet it is this really majestic arrangement, laugh. It's really strange to hear it stop right there because it goes smoothly into the next section, which in some ways is almost like an extended part of the song. I'm not sure I've ever heard it stopped there before. I bet you would really get a trip out of the Beatles song Helter Skelter. It's largely regarded as a precursor to heavy metal. And Paul McCartney does some crazy stuff with his voice. Very guitar-heavy. And raw.
@ursgeiser6570 Жыл бұрын
The song is the opener of a whole concept album, consisting of mostly 3'-songs that are totally different musically and which you have to get involved with in order to enjoy them. Really awesome (not just me saying) is the prog 5:38 song A Day In My Life, the then parent-panic Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds/LSD (later US no.1 by Elton John; played live with Lennon played at Madison Square Garden in 1974) and for me psychedelic Indian Within You Without You (sitar, composed by George Harrison).✌

There was this rumor floating around in the late 60s when I was a young teen growing up in Texas, that Paul McCartney was dead and if you opened the Sargent Pepper's album to the lyric section inside, you would see a photo of the Fab Four, but Paul was standing with his back towards the camera. If you look to Paul's left, George Harrison's has his finger pointing towards the lyric line "Wednesday morning at five O'clock..." The story was that somewhere embedded in the album there was a secret phone number. If you found it, you were to call on Wednesday morning at Five O'clock and someone would tell you the time and place of Paul's funeral... Genius marketing in my book!

Not live. Audience sounds added. This was the first multi-layered album and the band wanted to create an album that would be impossible to perform live since they had decided to stop touring and performing live. This album completely changed the way the recording industry recorded music as all the other artists wanted their albums to also be multi-layered after hearing this album. It became the best selling album in history when it was released and in England, it still holds the record for the top selling album in the history of the British Album Chart!😮😊

The beginning intro. is a not live. It is a canned recording of a concert an orchestra tuning up, mixed with another canned recording of an audience chatting among themselves, as what usually happens at the start of any show, waiting for the show to begin. Then bang, the show starts with the punchy intro, with McCartney playing the iconic opening guitar riff. As the poster below pointed out, listening to the whole LP is a must. I could go on and on with more info., but will stop boring you at this point. Glad to see youth appreciate the genius of this legendary band!

Listen to the whole album in it's entirety, it all flows one into the other. Take it up a notch and take a couple hits off a reefer and enjoy the ride. The big debate for years now has been. What is the greatest album of all time. Is it Peppers or is it their previous Lp "Revolver"? Which is an incredible Lp. Either way, it's a pretty good position to be in as a band, wouldn't you agree? John Lennon + Paul McCartney + George Harrison + Ringo Starr = The Beatles which = The All Time GOAT'S and it ain't even close! All other nominees are pretenders to the throne. Period, end of story. In the lyrics when Paul says..."so let me introduce to you, the one and only Billy Shears'' Billy Shears is the guy who supposedly took over for Paul after Paul's death, which was a publicity stunt. Many Beatles albums of the late 1960's have references to Paul's death in songs and LP album covers...
@debjorgo Жыл бұрын
"Publicity stunt"? It has always been stated by the Beatles and everyone associated with them, that "Paul is Dead" was all made up by fans. The Beatles did not create the rumor.
@Daniel-415-Ponce Жыл бұрын
A lot of Beatles fans and first-time listeners erroneously assume that when "Paul" introduces the alias Billy Shears he was referring to Ringo who sings the next song on the album. Of course, anyone who investigates PID (Paul Is Dead) quickly learns that Billy/William is the name of the multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter who replaced original Paul McCartney for the second phase of the Beatles psychological operation to effect massive cultural change in the West. To my knowledge, no one in the Beatles' inner circle has ever explicitly stated that the PID clues were an intentional publicity stunt, although they certainly did help increase public interest and record sales for the band.

This is the 2009 remastered version of the US release in mixed-mono stereo. Columbia thought that the US audience would prefer it in Stereo and released most of their mono recordings in this quazi stereo remix. That's why you hear the voices on one side and the instruments on the other, off and on - not true stereo but mono tracks that were broken up and remixed as left and right, sort of stereo. The 2009 mono versions are definitely better and the way the Beatles intended all but the last three albums to be heard.
