Thanks for video! I in last days tried to catch some curcians on my pond but unfortunately failed. There is low population of this fish there but in my opinion the problem is different. First of all they feeding only at specific hours it's not always like you said between 6 - 12 am but it depends on water temperature. When is really hot 28-30C+ then they start feeding even on first light but if temp decrease to 20-23C and there is low amount of sun they start around 10-11am and feeding even to 17-18. They have specific path where they swimming to find some food and like you mentioned they do it really slow. I'll fishing near margin around 3-5m always very close to underwater weed because it's the only place where there is no silver fish. In my theory very shallow full of weed static water in hot days have low amount of oxygen and sometimes change color to green. Rudd and roach prefer water deeper, colder with higher oxygen level so they moving to different locations. Crucians patrolling shallows and release micro bubbles in small amount sometimes it's complicated to see difference between natural gas and fish activity. When i focused my phone camera on weed (Elodea canadensis Michx) just underfoot and played video at home discovered that this weed moves at time to time and bubbles are there. Problem is that there was no bites putting only few hookbaits near this weed, the difference for me make black groundbait with oat flakes consistency similar to paste. Crucians must feel smell of groundbait and moving just little out of the weed. I feeding with pole pot just a little amount like 1/3 of hand thumb. On my pond average size of this fish is between 0.5-0.7kg so i decided to decrease size of hook to 16 because on size 12/10 (good tench hooks) there is no curcian bites. Sometimes they could stay very long at this small amount of feed and bubbling around to at the end push my line back and produce false bait. After true bait he run into weed and it's time when i lose fish. The best crucians time for me is around Full Moon at the Noon full of Sunlight because this it's time when shy fish became confident. I will continue my research on Crucians, it's just begin of my journey but what is see just now the most important thing is locate where fish feeding in natural venue.

In the lake I fish, the crucians just seem to "live" in certain areas. I have only seen them, and caught them, from two of the swims in the lake. I have tried several times in other areas in the lake, but have never seen one there, even if it is just 100 m away from where I caught.

@@metamera I agree with you key factor for crucian is locate they actual feeding spot and just waiting for them. Soaked groundbait + few soft medium size hookbaits should do the job. Good idea is use small strong hook like Drennan Specimen Plus nr 16 then you will can easy catch both small fish like roach, rudd and bigger one like crucian or tench. Small hook give you overlook on this how many of hookbaits is still there, if you catching many rudd and roach then feed again. Like you mentioned before if curcians arrive silverfish run out so there is no point to use bigger bits and hook at all. Test it maybe catching to many silverfish will scary bigger fish to join feeding spot. My grandpa yesterday said: "In the past the best hookbait for crucians was a paste made of bread and potatoes"

Kul film med intressant och givande resonemang. Fint att kunna titta på hur fiskarna beter sig via kameran! En tanke, skulle du inte kunna prova att "förpacka" mäsket och krokbetet i en PVA påse för en "perfekt" presentation på botten?

Ja, men det hade blivit för mycket klabb att få den att bli där. Vill man ha det så är det nog bättre att köra methodfeeder.
