You asked viewers what we think, so here is something. All the stuff you are doing is quite interestingly designed, but the rack you use for batteries, I think you should change it to more robust one the soonest you possibly can. I used such rack for a server for a while, but swapped it to other less heavy use, they just are not designed for bigger weights. Once some of those plastic pieces compressed between poles and the holes in corners of shelf give up a little, the corner of that shelf can suddenly go down, which could result all unattached stuff to fall out from that shelf. You also have there quite a bit of electricity going on, which could short from somewhere if some unwanted movement would happen.
@ChumpChangeXD
@ChumpChangeXD 3 ай бұрын
Yea I hate that rack to be honest! It is a “commercial grade” one tho so it’s good for a bunch of weight and these batteries are so much lighter than say a car battery or something
@captainhappy

@@ChumpChangeXD The rack can be nice for some purposes. I use it now for kitchen stuff and keep some food stuff in it. But for servers and such, nope. That shelving can work fine for 99% of times, but for 100% reliability you need more robust one. If I recall right Ikea rated similar rack to carry 15 kg (some 30 lbs or so) weight per one shelf, and it does have pretty much the same plastic pieces and grooves in the poles there to connect those shelf corners to the poles. Other manufacturers can freely say whatever they like for their weight limits, but I go with that 15 kg limit, if I have more stuff then I reconsider. If you are happy with the rack, at least make sure the stuff in the shelving is secured somehow in case one corner of one shelf just fails and drops down, it happens really quite easily, I have seen that happen on my own shelving all it takes is some small misalignment or shift or plastic getting weak in those plastic pieces which hold it all together.

I went with a more portable solar setup for now so I can cary it around. Easy was for me to learn before I dive deeper into it. I got a 3840wh 80ah 48v power station that can take 2000 watts solar. I figure if i can max that 2000 watts solar ill upgrade from the power station. With it being a all built in power station (inverter+battery) makes it prety convenient and have the 240v out makes it nice, ive ran a welder off of it while charging from solar lol

Solar panels and batteries have been getting cheaper over the last year. I just bought 18 400 watt panels for just over $100 per panel to build a solar crypto shed when the same panels were $200 a year ago. Definitely do the EG4. They're quality. Also you can overpanel the growatt as long as you don't go over the Voc or Isc rating of the MPPT. I do it on my Victron MPPT and run box miners straight from the 12v batteries. Looking forward to seeing how your system grows!

Cool set up, eg4 is really nice unit i was thinking about but have to check for idle consumption, on the small system like you have you need 1 battery and one solar panel wasted just to run consumption power for these growatts i think. I do not use inverter for kso just mine directly to 12v battery using victron charger and only 5-10W power consumption. Good luck.

Got eg4 on eg4 48v server rack batteries Did you say you had two sets of solar panels in parallel and series up to rest? Volt and amperage same on each leg in combiner box. Or maybe misunderstood. But EG4 from signature solar no issues and communication to laptop is awesome easy to use and reprogram spring and fall so far.

So the combiner box has 4 legs and I have 5 sets of panels. All panels are in series then all in parallel. One set just got a ride with another one in parallel over to the combiner box so they were all the same voltage

if i was in america i would choose the eg4 the build in fuses and the posibility of connecting 16 pcs together, i better then growatt making a 96kw system with growatt is only posible with the big inverter because you are limited to only connect 6 pcs together and those are not cheap its the amps that are dangerous not the V/W with that stack of batteries you have, you have many times more amps then a house does and that can be lethal the system might have fuses/relays that makes it safe, but the batteries are another story

With you having santan solar in your country i would go much larger panels. I started with 100w panels and jumped up to 450w panels with far superior performance. i have 6 450w panels but only 7.5kwh of lifepo4 for my home and mining, attached to a ATS for switch to grid when the batteries get low but i dont pay your elec rate. Santan solar used panels for pennies per watt and you could ramp right up cheaply.

48V DC is fine, don't be scared. DC isn't as dangerous as AC, due to AC flowing through your body much easier. And you would get an efficiency increase from much lower wire resistance.

You can overpanel your growatt to 3000w as long as you keep the voc (open circuit voltage) of your panels lower then your unit's max (150V). Adding an additional growatt would add another 50w 24/7 just having the unit on and inverting, something to consider... If you can find a unit with multiple mppt inputs you can more efficiently harvest the sun with different sets of solar panels. Mixing types of solar panels =reduced output

Are you sure on the over paneling?! I swear it said only 1800watts of panels max?! I will have to look!
@riftgod6169
@riftgod6169 3 ай бұрын
@@ChumpChangeXD yes I do it on my system, look up "over paneling" as long as you stay under 150V. You can go over the units input amps rating (solar) which you rarely near the max anyways. If the amps go over it just becomes excess energy and turns to heat

licensed electrician here, just a few thoughts. Why don't you cut out the inverter for a solar charger and keep it all dc? save the 10% losses in efficiency converting dc to ac and back again at the server PSU. Its not the voltage but the amps that kill you, and they are inversely proportional. so 48v would be 'safer' as it requires less amps to supply the same wattage. The solar cable you have running along the ground outside is extremely dangerous, high voltage dc can arc when cut and start a fire or worse. the thermometer on the battery bank is a good idea, but id be swapping that out for a thermostat to automatically cut off the power supply before the temperature exceeds battery recommendations. also swapping the battery fuses for some circuit breakers in an easy to access location and not behind the battery's in case of an emergency would'nt be a horrible idea too. besides that it looks great!
@ChumpChangeXD
@ChumpChangeXD 3 ай бұрын
Thanks man!!! I actually did try Dc to Dc converter 24v to 12v and my only issue was the battery bank being drained 100% cause then there is nothing to shut that down. If you know of something I could do please let me know if there is a automatic shut off of some sort!? Also I will get them wires situated this year they been like that a long time cause I didn’t think anything would bother em but I 100% understand… only takes one stupid squirrel 🤣 🫣

@@ChumpChangeXD you need to considder the sine wave on the instalation, when dealing with eletronics like that and i would considder som sort of Surge Protection Device, if lightening strikes those things are probetly cheaper for 110/220V im not sure it would be cheaper in the end, after all solar is the cheapest form of power so loosing 10% should not matter in the end, its allready calculated into the systems you get going from 110 to 220 would allready save some power..(depending on the aplication) just like using 380 is more efficient then using 220v when running long wires there is a difference in loss, depending on if you use 12v or 380v.. running higher v will have smaller loss
@Pinetatoe
@Pinetatoe 3 ай бұрын
@@ChumpChangeXD yeah I’ve seen some pretty nasty accidents from solar arcs. As for the battery’s draining, I guess it depends on how smart your solar charger is, most would have a low voltage cut out built into them. If not, you can always add one.
