I have the same exact hair texture as you! I just transitioned for almost a year now. I was a religious hair straightener gal just like you but I decided to embrace my natural hair. I honestly didn’t think my hair could be as curly as it is now, because I went so long with styling my hair straight. Now that I’m seeing results from my hard work, it motivates me to keep my hair healthier. I honestly did straighten my hair a good number of times during my transition period because of how easy the process is compared to putting a bunch of curly hair products on., but every time, I honestly regret it and guilt trip myself. I’m happy this quarantine has helped give my hair a break, so at least it’s in a bun when I don’t wanna style my hair curly hahah

your story is the exact same as mine... i started straightening my hair at a very young age (around 8-9 years old) and i got it relaxed when i when i was 11 years old... i only got it relaxed once because like you said in the video it's a completely different feeling then when you normally straighten. i would also straighten my hair right after i washed it on the weekends so it would be straight for the rest of the week. that continued for 5 years, and now im on my journey to healthy, curly hair! anyways, thank you for sharing your story, it was so relieving to be able to finally relate to someones curly journey!! your hair is beautiful i cant wait for mine to shine as bright as yours:))

The curly hair journey is REAL. I followed the same path, but have been natural for over 10 years and haven't used heat in that time either. Even for my wedding! I felt so powerful in wearing my natural hair because that's what I look like! Curly hair looks just as professional and beautiful as straight hair and should be treated as such!

Girl!!!!!! I am at the same stage as you were before your last big chop. Lightly wavy on top, but really wavy/curly below. I just started embracing my curls again. I tried over and over again, but always ended up with my curls losing their shape, even when I cut it. But now my hair is pretty long and they are still at least wavy. Cannot wait to go to the salon and let go of some length and get more layers. It sounds stupid, but your journey really gives me hope!! 😘😘

With multiple keratin treatments my hair pretty much looked like yours before ‘the big chop’. Best decision ever! Transitioning back to my curls- which are also very similar to yours (more curly in the inner-most layers), has been made sooo much easier with short hair. By the time my hair grows long again, I will know exactly what products to use, lol..

Girl, I feel you. I was the only one in the family with curly hair other than my aunt in another country (or at least until now when my brother grew his hair out. Turns out we have the same curly hair. I realized recently that my dad have curly hair but he keeps it short, brushed out, and apply tons of gel. My mom also have wavy hair but keeps it brushed out). So yeah, I grew up not knowing how to take care of my hair. Early on in my childhood I also kept my hair in buns until I was complimented someday for my curly hair so I realized its not all bad. I know how to take better care of my hair now but I just bleached and colored my hair more than 6 months ago cuz you know quarantine. Its a once in a lifetime choice for me so I went with it. Its really damaged so I decided to give my hair a break amd give it love for still being strong. Im excited to see my curls again after growing it out and some care.

you have motivated me so much for my curly journey & to be patient i fully started in january or february bc i think i straightened my hair on new years. but i also would straighten then curl too AHH I CRINGE AT THAT NOW. but i am just doing what’s right for my hair using shea moisture staying away from sulfates parabens silicon etc. but i see slight change i have the straight parts too except they’re wavy. so hopefully a year from now things are looking up for me. anyone reading this don’t be discouraged we’ll see our results one day love the skin your in be patient 🤍🤍🤍🤍

I’ve brushed my hair out since 8th grade and always wondered why it was always frizzy and uncontrollable. Summer 2018 I learned about the curly girl method 🙃 and it transformed my hair. I had no idea that I had curls so all of my sophomore year I’ve been working on my curls. Now it’s been a year and my hair is down to my mid Butt and it is weighing my curls down meaning only my ends get curly. So I’m about to go short and donate my hair 🤩

I’m going on Thursday to get a curly cut and I’m SO EXCITED it’ll transform my hair 🥰🥰

I’m a middle aged woman and it’s only in the last 15 years that I’ve learnt how to care for my naturally curly hair. I can tell you of soooo many disaster stories while I was trying to manage my hair. The problem is most hair dressers don’t know how to handle curly hair - so how do you learn?!! As a child most hairdressers would cut my hair so short that I would look like a boy. It took a major mess up from a hairdresser, that I should have sued, that I found the wonderful woman who for the first time in my life knew how to treat curly hair! She cut my hair correctly, I learnt the best type of products to use and what not to do, so now I get compliments about my hair. Which is fabulous as for most of my life I hated and stressed about uncontrollable curls.

I gave myself a big chop last week because i had long hair and my curly hair got to something like my collar bones and i was sick of going around the house with long straight ends, when I did it I sort of panicked because I had never cut my hair by myself and I also had long layers in my hair that gave my head some "shape" instead of a "triangle effect" and by cutting it i lost the layers and I'm too scared to try the unicorn cut thing because it's so short now (also the shears belonged to my neighbour, i already gave them back) but now that I watched this video my texture looks so much like the one from your big chop! I'm excited on how much it's gonna improve now :)

First of all thank you for sharing your hair journey. Secondly i can literally relate to this so much like even the decisions of using keratin and straightining the hair . I have started using the keratin treatment when i was about 16 to 22 and i have fried my hair a lot bc i would straightining my hair frequently and when covid-19 came i though i will give my hair a break and i didn't even know that my curly hair still exists. Any ways i had nothing to do during lock down so i decided to care for my hair by using oils and masks. And just like you said didn't know that caring for curly hair is different from staight so seeing curly girl videos really helped me so much and now i am 6 months through hair transition planning to get my big chop after few months wish me luck.

I feel your hair type (before) is mine I have straight and wavy mixed hair and when I shower and brush my hair its straight then turns to waves and when its completely dry and I brush it out I have just frizz 🥺 my mom said i used to have really pretty curls so I'm really trying to get my natural color/style back thank you for the video

You should never brush your hair while it’s dry, that’s exactly why you get frizz! Try to wash your hair and leave it be without brushing it after it drys🤗

I know this video is old but I’m glad I watched it because my hair looks like your old hair. My top is curly but the bottom is straight due to straightening so much throughout my childhood. I was the only one who had long curly puffy hair in my family so my mom never knew how to deal with it. So she just braided it. Which made me hate my hair as a teen. Straightened for years and bow at 28 I’m finally letting my natural curls out. I don’t want my daughter to think that we have to “fix our hair” even though she has straight hair I want her to be happy. I LOVE YOUR HAIR! 💕

Wow your hair is beautiful and this video was extremely helpful my daughter is 11 and she always wants to straighten her hair. And since I remember what it feels like to be 11 and in middleschool I kinda let her find herself if that makes sense. But in the last 4 months she's begged me for curly hair products she said her hair is damaged and wants to be curly and healthy and just the way it is natural I sent her your video and she is very much motivated and inspired. I appreciate your honesty and footage because I know how hard it is for women to cut they're hair. For some weird reason my daughter is the only person in my immediate family with curly hair my hair is pin straight so that must have been a recessive gene. Either way she is learning to accept herself and realizing that what she doesnt like isn't flaw it just is and she has to accept it. And that makes me very happy ! Thanks for the video. Also she thinks you are beautiful!!

I really can't remember my curly hair anymore. I've been doing the chemical straightening for almost five years now. I have the same hair texture as you did. My roots are super curly but my ends are so straight, it's so weird. I have to always blow dry it. The thing is, I really don't know how to treat my curly hair but I decided to stop straightening my hair and start chopping the ends. I bought the shea moisture products and I'm making this transition to restore my natural hair and have healthy curls. Thanks for sharing your experience!!

I don’t know my natural hair shape, Though from child photos I know I had 3b hair but never using products and swimming every day made it spongey. I straightened it all until my middle school to freshman year and now I did a big chop and plan to restore its shape
