I’ve only recently started using a baitcaster, I can definitely see the benefits for fast and continuous casting. I’ve got the Abu Promax combo and for the money it’s great. However, being only 6’6 it does feel short. Nice to know what works well for a tall lad being 6’3 myself. Something I’ll look into more for sure 👍

The braid I use is 0.36 and rated at 50 lb 8 strand. I think you said in the video yours is rated at 80 lb it sounds a similar thickness to mine maybe it is more like 50-60 lb.

Hi thanks for another video ,having used the okuma komodo 364 for a good while it is quite a large bodied reel for someone with smaller hands as he points out ,but with a clicking drag which I did like especially for dead baiting in the colder months before a thief stole it with lots of other tackle .I replaced it with a shimano tranx 300 and it's a smaller bodied reel but still holds lots of heavy braid and its silky smooth and you feel the action of the lure right from the rod tip to the reel Handels especially with larger paddle tails as well as upper cranks but if you need a clicker go komodo , hope this helps someone.

For heavy pike i use an abu garcia 5600cs rocket pro and i use a shimano curado 201xgk for mid sized pike (3-7kg). Also use a shimano bantam for frog and shimano chronarch for all around.

@@stan.o99 well in summer the pikes are usually smaller here in Sweden, to get a better fight with that pike i use a smaller rod and reel, also the baits has some influence in the size of the pike. ofc i can happens that that you get a bigger fish than you intended but it is still possible to get pike up, just not preferred if I were to use it for big pike all the time, but yes you cant really know the size of fish you catch

Hi mate Never thought I'd see you fishing without your favourite WESTIN rod, you loved it. Any plans to replace it? I got my Westin powershad t on your recommendation, its amazing, so thanks. A great alternative for a reel if your viewers are on a smaller budget for a reel is the Piscifun Alijos. About £100, had mine since February it's amazing and chucks lures a long way👍 Bet it'll match your distance. Great to get the fish at the end😊 Tight lines bud 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

Hey, I'm looking for a heavy setup, this is a stupid question... If a rod a rated for 60-150 casting weight, would it be aright casting a 20g lure? its a little confusing as some rods have a min to max weight and other just have an 'up to weight'. thanks :)
@jackrogers86334 жыл бұрын
min to max weight is what the manufacturer deems as optimal casting weights. It does not mean however that the rod is unable to cast anything lighter. I have a 60-180g rod and cast 20-30g lures just fine. I would advise not to cast anything heavier than the maximum casting weight though, as this does pose the risk of the rod breaking on the cast.

I don't know how you do it, I have been fishing for 50 years and the only rod I had break was the one my grandson shut the car door on. It is also sad the price of the tackle in the UK, I moved to Canada 25 years ago and pay at least half of the UK prices .

Hi Dan, great video once again. I'm currently looking at which rod I'll purchase for my heavy pike set-up (already got the reel: okuma citrix). However, I'm in doubt between two rods: Abu Garcia Svartzonker Casting 8f6 (2.59m) 40-140gr OR Savage Gear Swimbait 1DFR 8feet (2.38m) 50-130gr. I'll be mainly using it for casting slightly bigger shads, swimbaits, jerkbaits and for trolling. Would you have a preference between these two rods? I know you are very much familiar with both brands. Cheers!

I have a similar setup BUT I always am annoyed by the tip heavy weight of these combos. Is this also so much pulling towards the tip balance wise? You maybe have some idea how to prevent this or is this the same on your combo at all?

DB Fishing 😂 cheers for reply. As a newbie to predators it was just worrying seeing cuts so often across diff channels with more experienced Angler’s. So you ask for yours basically lol by not wanting to hang about. Yeah I get it happens but takes shine off it if I’m constantly worried about dirty pike cuts 😮😂. Just love all aspects of it but not sure if my reaction to unhooking is sign it’s not for me or if it’s normal with newbies to pike.

Big lures will not just catch you big fish, I'm sure DB Fishing will confirm this, you need a range of sizes as, sometimes, Pike will not look at a larger lure and a more subtle approach is required.
