Thanks for the info . I have skated the same set up on my long board for the. Last 37 years . Standard Indy 215 trucks 70 mm 78a cherry bomb wheels. Love it not sure why I would want to mess with it . But I do like the way you discuss why you make the changes you do . Again thanks

Super video, that inspired me to open my channel about LDP alongside other things. My most downhill-able setup would be the ripper with caliber trucks like yours... or well, bracket boards are super stable, but not so carvy or slidy, it's just pure speed and hopes of not needing to stop 😅
@RatBürgerSk82 жыл бұрын
I'd like to see you do like a time trial comparison on the Nexus vs. a top mount DH setup. Also, you'd probably have a lot of fun on a double kick setup with G Slides.
@downhill254skate2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a fun idea. I reckon it would depend on the road. I reckon the advantage of a short top mount would be on technical road
@erich13942 жыл бұрын
Board 3 - when you said your front truck was 53 degrees, it made me realize I could probably learn to slide on my LDP board which has about 60 degrees on the front and around 15 or something on the back.. I guess I always assumed the board was too turny to slide? Nice! Thanks for that.
@huntergibson9359 Жыл бұрын
Very turny boards make low speed sliding much easier. Knowing ldp boards, it probably is not turny enough to easily slide. WB and average truck angle (for you this is 37.5* or so) you are likely still at a pretty large turning radius. Flex could also be an issue, but with some gloves, kneepads, and a good helmet I am sure you can do it!
@erich1394 Жыл бұрын
@@huntergibson9359 I have a very tall, grippy topmount pumper with a front truck angle of around 60 degrees, rear truck near 15 degrees. My turning radius is about 2.5 feet. It looks a lot like a downhill race board, just a bit taller due to intense wedge and dewedge. Thanks for the encouragement! I'm still hoping to learn to slide this summer

Nice. Are those Caliber II or Caliber III hangers in the video? Have either of you tried Caliber III hangers with the Randal 35 baseplate?
@eBoard3R2 жыл бұрын
@@realrickypal I know Cal II are fine with Randals, Cal III should be too for unraked. Not sure about the raked hanger but I would guess it's still fine.
@huntergibson93592 жыл бұрын
@@eBoard3R I believe it is just the pivot cup that would be an issue no? I believe cal III has the same pivot cup as the 2's, do you need a special cup to put a cal hangar in Randal plates? I have been looking at doing this for ages and finding information is super hard.

Put the Ronins on the Tortuga and lemme know how it feels with those! The Tortuga is my favorite deck, and I'm running Don't Trip DH Cybins on it - (you should get a set of those and try em too!)

Will do! Riding video coming soon. I tried some Molly's and wasn't impressed but I'd be up to try some Cybins
@ultimateflash77922 жыл бұрын
@@downhill254skate yes please! I feel like everyone's first experience with Don't Trip is with Molly's - and it kinda turns them away from DT. And although Molly's are great and stable (I have a set on a Pantheon Seed), the older design geometry isn't as conducive to modern short wheelbase, skinny decks like the Tortuga; whereas the DT DH Cybins are literally designed for it and give a much more lively feel and much better response overall.
@PantheonLongboards2 жыл бұрын
Mollys are the main reason why DT earned the nickname of “don’t turn.” Other DTs are definitely better, although you have some very fine trucks in the collection. I’d be eager to see you try the new Valkyrie Slaloms

Hey, I recently got a Cole Trotta pro with caliber 3 44 degree trucks with no risers and by any chance would you know what size of screws I need to bolt the trucks to the board
@adamscotera23782 жыл бұрын
I notice that it seems like pretty much all the serious downhill riders prefer top-mount boards, and you seem to as well. For you, is it because you like to have your front foot overlapping the front truck and you need a full width there for leverage? I can see that the limitation this puts on wheel size and deck height are not priorities for most skilled riders. Do you discuss this in a previously posted video? I'd be interested in what you say about it.
@RatBürgerSk82 жыл бұрын
Deck sizes shrank as truck technology and collective rider skill improved. DH trucks used to be much more primitive and less inherently stable, so stability was more often found by making the boards long and low, or by permanently wedging the truck angles like the Landyachtz Evo. As riders began skating more technical roads with less focus on straight-line speed, riders opted for more agile setups. Additionally, the compact DH setups allow much closer proximity while racing. The big 31" wheelbase drop-through decks with exposed wheels can be a major liability when the racing gets close. These things said, I encourage every skater to try all styles of board. Just because it's not the meta doesn't mean it's without merit. And the meta tends to ignore _fun_ , which is the most important variable for most of us.

I’m going to be running a similar setup on the tortuga, except with some don’t trip hakis. What roadside and boardside bushings should I run? I’m a 140 lbs rider as well. Sick video!
@maxime.moineau2 жыл бұрын
same thing should be perfect, maybe 93/93 back if you wheelift, i'm a little heavier and had mine 50° 80/84 25° 95/95 on don't trip mollys, now i use it for freeriding 50° 80/84 10° 97/97 with rogue like trucks : easiest setup i ever had for going fast in the straights and throwing big standups, bushings mostly depends on the angles rather than the trucks so you should be fine with those values have fun !
@downhill254skate2 жыл бұрын
That's a tough question to answer. What angles and widths are you using?
@tyrannicalproductions2 жыл бұрын
@@downhill254skate I haven’t really played around with angles a whole lot yet, especially since I haven’t actually gotten the trucks yet. The widths I’m getting are gonna be the 115-133mm hanger option but it has the adjustable baseplate so I can change and mess around with the angles. Honestly that’s something I’m gonna have to test, especially since the tortuga has natural truck angling to it. I’m most likely gonna go narrower in the front and wider in the back like you, with a lower angle in the back and a higher angle in the front, again it’s something I’m gonna have to test. I maybe should wait till I get the trucks and get a feel for them before I go and ask about aftermarket bushings lol
