I usually get comments on my videos about what terminal I use, so here's a video where I show you my teminal setup (theme and plugins) on Ubuntu Linux.
This can also work for Mac as well if you use iTerm. You might need to modify some of the shell scripts. I don't use Windows as much so I don't have a similar theme for it yet.

If you want to reset back to the old terminal (since several people have asked): There's two main modifications being done to the terminal. The terminal theme, and the shell itself. For the theme, here's a thread I found on the internet on how to reset it to the default: askubuntu.com/questions/14487/how-to-reset-the-terminal-properties-and-preferences For the terminal shell itself, we actually installed a new terminal (zsh) alongside the default bash. Bash itself wasn't removed, but we just set the default shell to `zsh`. Here is a thread on how to uninstall zsh and default back to bash: askubuntu.com/questions/958120/remove-zsh-from-ubuntu-16-04

You have to modify this theme file: github.com/pixegami/terminal-profile/blob/main/configs/pixegami-agnoster.zsh-theme It uses bash scripting, so you'll need to understand that first. But once you modify the file and replace it in the `zsh` directory, it should do whatever you want it to.

Whenever I open a new terminal window, the font size is really big (compared to what I used so far). I know that I can manually "zoom in" or "zoom out" but it is really annoying to do everytime I open a new terminal window. I tried to change the font size in Settings but had no luck. Whenever I lower the font size, the "Apply" button remains disabled. Any suggestion how to make the terminal window font size permanently lower (not 14, but 10 instead)? Thanks a lot!

The terminal should respect your font size setting in the profile settings and I don't think anything in my theme or zsh config files should override the terminal's preferred font size - so I'd recommend looking into that. If you start a new terminal, it should use the command to start the ZSH shell again. In any case, the ZSH is just another program that can be started from your kernel, so you should have an override somewhere to be able to set it as your default shell.

The font size setting should be part of the profile setting. If you are using Ubuntu, you just change the default size in the profile like any other theme: linuxhint.com/change-terminal-font-size-ubuntu/ Of course, you can use the traditional shortcuts to "zoom" the text as well (Ctrl + and Ctrl - I think?)

Hm, I think it should - but if it has no GUI you wouldn't be able to see it anyway? :P Unless you mean when you SSH in. How to go back to default?
@pixegami
@pixegami 10 ай бұрын
Run a command to change the default shell back to bash (if that's what you're using). You can reset the profile like this: askubuntu.com/questions/14487/how-to-reset-the-terminal-properties-and-preferences And you can uninstall OhMyZSH here: github.com/ohmyzsh/ohmyzsh#uninstalling-oh-my-zsh

Hmm, good point. I use Conda environments. You might be able to modify the zshrc or the theme file to be able to show Python environments.

I might have to review the steps. I've only tested it on Linux (Ubuntu), so if you are using Mac or Windows, it might not work without some tweaks. I'll do a Mac version soon when I buy a Mac for myself.

After which step? None of the steps in there should be sufficient to crash your OS... What error do you see?

Now my terminal looks great! But I encountered a problem: I often use VENV for my python projects but I can't see the venv indicator after using 'source venv/bin/activate'. Is there a way to make it visible? @pixegami Thanks.

Here is the solution, after you source your venv correctly try running the command: echo $PS1 in your terminal to display the current prompt configuration. if it displays the venv like this -> (venv) that should tell you that you are in your virtual environment, which is ok, but if it shows some varibales without it, then you have not sourced or activated your venv. I hope it helps someone. I think @pixegami should look into it so that it does display on the screen as currently it is conflicting with the display of venv on the screen as it usually does on the terminal. Otherwise its a great customization. simple and easy to install.

Yes you should be able to do it in the theme file :) If you want the exact code, you can probably copy paste the theme code into ChatGPT and ask for a recommendation.
