To this day, I can remember my mother standing in front of an old calex (closed) in our cottage, visualizing where the cheese is, then quickly opening it and grab it. So fast that when you winked, you missed it :-) Sometimes she does it now, even we already have a new refrigerator there. :-)

btw: in Czech language the clasification is: samota, osada, víska, ves, vesnice, městys, (městečko), město, velkoměsto. the title of the biggest village goes to Brno ofcourse;)

Hi Andrea :) Classic pantry under the stairs, like my grandma has :D Btw we call it "spíž" or "špajz" ;) And the balcony in the bathroom makes sense, you can dry towels outside and the bathroom is ventilated. And watch out for ghosts in the attic. Well we do not have only one word like village and town or city. According to the size and importance, we recognize several terms :) Samota - usually refers to a secluded rural human dwelling consisting of one to three houses Osada - is a smaller rural settlement, larger than the Samota Obec - a public corporation, ie a legal entity that is a basic unit of public administration, a territorial self-governing unit of the basic level. Vesnice / ves / víska/on Moravia dědina - that's what you know as a village, where there are close social contacts between the individual inhabitants. However, some villages are local parts of the city, administratively attached to the city itself as districts. Městys - is in size and meaning between the town and the village. In the past, these were settlements that were granted the right to hold weekly and livestock markets and, initially, exceptionally, annual markets. Město - ie town, and according to its size and importance it is then Okresní město and Krajské město :) You may have noticed that, unlike in America, Czech cities do not have rectangular streets. It is given by history. The first towns were circular, the village was only a few houses by the road.

About it being a village - 90% of the neighbourhoods of Prague used to be villages before they became part of Prague, so don’t worry about it. It doesn’t really matter what you call it. Hi Andrea you have found a beautiful looking house in a great location we shop in Hostivice (Tesco and Lidl), we live only 5km away. In Chyne there is a very nice restaurant called Pivovarsky Dvur. You did a great job showing us the house, thanks.

Yeah we tried it but from where we are to the train is far. So it takes aroun half an hour to zlicin and then another half to the center. By car is half the time. But if anyone ever needs to do that and they don’t want to Uber I guess is doable. Maybe I’ll try to do it for a video

Hostivice has been a town since 1978 :-) (In the Czech Republic, it is clear (by law) which "settlement unit" is a village and which is a town.) There is still the term "městys" (used again since 2006), something between a town and a village - for municipalities that are small but somewhat important for their region. p.s. Your house is lovely :-)

@@ArepasforDinner Hostivice has almost nine thousand inhabitants. It is too big to be a village :-) The largest village in the Czech Republic is Petrovice u Karviné (5 thousand inhabitants). But until 2015 it was Jesenice near Prague. Just for fun: The promotion of the village to a town is approved by the government. The promotion is regulated by law, which stipulates that a municipality with at least three thousand inhabitants can become a town. However, the municipality must also meet other criteria regulated by government regulations.

@@ArepasforDinner I would also beg you to put a plank into to pool so if a hedgehod falls into the water, it can crawl out. The bowl with water aside is a nice contraption, but it won't solve everything. Hedhehogs forage for food in the dark and sometimes they are not able to asses where are they going. Or at least leave some floating object in the water so the hedgehog (or a kitten) can board it and wait for the rescue. Do you remember how in the Titanic movie they used floating unhinged doors? :-)

We recently purchased a flat in Repy so we will be close to you haha. I have never been living so close to the airport and Im very curious how noisy it will be especially when pandemic is over and plane will be landing/taking off like every 5 minutes. I hope airport will stick to using the main runway cos the other one seems to be in our trajectory :D Wondering what will be your experience. Probably we should start saving on new headphones or noise cancelling windows :D

They generally use the main one. We asked our friends around the area and we were told we are lucky to hear 2/3 planes a day! I honestly enjoy it. I used to be a pilot and my daddy is a pilot so that’s a sound that can’t bother me 💜💜

We have gas heaters and works amazingly good for us! I was a bit scared at first that it might be too cold in winter but it wasn't the case! We never even turned on the upstairs heaters! The house is very warm... So much that we are actually adding a/c units for summer cause we believe that might be a bigger issue

To your linguistical problem, in czech you can use word městys which is something between small town and village. And when it comes to different words for town and city, town is normally město and city is velkoměsto. ☺️ Beautiful house btw! ♥️

I’ll stay with male mesto? A village is a house settlement of up to 2.0000 habitants. And since this area is so near to Prague and has 4 times that amount should be called suburb or satellite city but town will do 😋🤗

Beautiful house! I have seen your previous video about not buying house in Czech. But...if you count, it depends how much you (wasted) paid by rent this. This house can be monthly rented by 35-40K czech crowns? Maybe more. I don't know if services (elecricity, gas etc) are included or not, but a year is about 500K...if you will be there for 4 years, it's 2M. And if you are able to save this money....you can take loan or maybe buy own house and pay monthly only 6K for the rest of your life (of course plus a loan). I don't know. Paying rent for something which is not yours seems to me...strange.

A house like this is 650,000 USD the rent is not more than 2.000 with a loan on 30 years and the interest the house is gonna end up being 1.000.000 dollars. So only if we would stay more than 15 years makes sense. And only if the market doesn’t change and as per the previous video we see that the market is very manipulated now with lack of offer. That won’t last for ever. So if the market would go back to normal in the next 30 years you still have to pay a million dollars for a house that’s worth maybe 1/3. That’s the main issue. And if there is a crisis (happens to the best countries) and you can’t pay your mortgage you need to sell cause you owe the bank 1.000.000 but if you can sell for 300.000 you will still owe 700.000 without having the house 😐. To put it simpler. A family that makes around 5.000 a month (almost nobody makes that here) shouldn’t buy a property that exceeds 300.000 USD cause otherwise sooner or later they will lose the house

I’ve seen them between 20.000 all the way to 40.000 depending where you want them. If inside Prague more like 50.000

Rent of such house would be very expensive, minimaly 30 000 CZK, maybe 40 or 50 as Andrea said, but most of people don't have rented houses, they have hypotec for that and it will be their after something like 30 years.

@@Pidalin Thank you for the response. I was an English teacher in Prague almost 30 years ago (Jan. 1991) and, as you know, things have changed dramatically. I would love to return there, possibly to retire, if we ever get any sense of normalcy back in the world.

@@guitinwidit PS: That rent was meant monthly. Normal flats with 3 rooms and kitchen in Prague are for 17 or 20 000 CZK, if you want to be in downtown than it can be even much more, so people need mosty minimaly 2 people in family who are working, it can't be paid from one Czech salary if you are not manager or something like that. Today you will have something like 25 - 30 thousands netto on qualified position and around 20 thousands netto on less qualified or unqualified position. In today Czechia there is no big difference between regions or cities like in other countries (except some places where is no work), it's not like you will have minimal salary on village and automaticaly good salary in Prague. Ofcourse rent of flat in Prague is more expensive, but it's not cheap even in small cities, I would say difference is maybe 20% in rents and salaries, so that's good advantage of living in Czech Republic, in some countries you have no chance move to capital city because you just can't afford that.

I feel like the global economy right now is a big bubble waiting to burst. I wonder, too, about the other forces of corruption (politicians and mafias) that are still pulling the strings on things. I am sooo disgusted with the situation in the U.S. but I also realize there is no utopia

Yeah, that was officially ready to be used since 5th of April 2004... 😊 Andrea - never ever disclose your location, I would suggest. Czech “vesnice”, “mestys”, “obec” and even so called “sattelites” about historical little town centeres and so, they are so tiny that find your exact house was a matter of minutes 🤓

40k a month Is a lot, but it's cuz of the location. U can find just as beautiful, bigger houses with bigger garden all over Czechia - it Is how middle And lower class live in the villages And small towns. Obviously, everything near Prague Is expensive cuz of the housing bubble now.

this is bullshit! freezer or fridge doesn't produce so much heat. many people, me including, have fridge inside kitchen unit. some tv or gaming pc produces more heat imho. and mostly it just could decreased effectivity of fridge but there is no danger at all. actually this room should be quite cool during summer so much likely it will be opposite case...

Exactly!! That’s why I am 100% pro renting right now. For this house to be a buyable house the rent should be aroun $5k a month or the price of the house be no more than $200k

Your lingvistic problem is very Pragueish. 1. Prague people say "village" to everything outside Prague, some maybe except regional capitals. 2. All of these satellites around Prague like Hostivice, Úvaly, Roztoky, Průhonice used to be villages. Even I (30y) remember those much smaller then they actually are today. For Prague people they are villages because they saw them 15 years ago and didn't see how they grew up

Noooo... before we lived in a tiny apartment now we live in a big house that’s the only change I feel but at the same time I grew up in a place like this. Inside a city but when you live in a house you do house life that is more like a town life than a city life. And also funny enough we live in a townhouse not a house. Even after paying 15 years of rent that wouldn’t even cover the interest on a house like this. Plus we would have to put 70.000 usd out of pocket upfront and the monthly payments would be higher than the rent in a overly inflated market if we would move in 15 years and the market would be back to normal we would still need to pay the bank 700.000 usd for a house that’s worth 200.0000 so we owe the bank 500K and we don’t have anything. Right now with our savings we are having several different investments that produce us over 1.000 usd a month instead of putting that in an overpriced property. Arepas for Dinner thank you for detailed answer. Wow! Maybe worth considering a move further away from Prague? We live happily in the UK in a 4 bed house in the centre of England. We could never in a million years afford living anywhere near London due to prices. Anyway, good luck with everything, really enjoy your videos from a perspective of a Czech person living abroad watching a foreigner making videos about life in Czech 👍 xx

Marketa Bolton yes we tried to move a bit away from Prague!.. In West Palm Beach specially 😂 but we couldn’t stay there. No no kidding Czech Republic is a “Central European country” that was on the east side of the iron country. The moment you move away from Prague you enter into another curtain . Jobs pay 1/4 of what they pay in Prague. Nobody speaks English there’s no malls or big chain stores. Is like traveling in time tbh. Nothing to do with a town in UK or US

Arepas for Dinner that’s not correct at all, you are totally misguided on this information. Of course there are parts of Czech that would perhaps match your description but there are many more where the standard of life is just as good as in Prague. I come from Brno, second largest city in Czech and I visited only this summer and I can assure you, that you don’t feel there like behind iron curtain and people do speak English. Well, the younger generation does. And pleeenty of excellent shopping opportunities. Honestly, I’m shocked by this answer and your opinion.

I lived in Prague for 6 years studied at charles university. I never was embraced by czech ppl i noticed they seemed quite racist. I just wish I experienced what you experienced. But they wouldnt give me a chance.
