Just look at the special bonding time you spent with your father. If I were you and done something like this with my dad, I would NOT ever get rid of it but, keep it forever. Down the road when your father is no longer around and you are feeling the heartache, I guarantee that every time you look at this truck, it will bring back a smile to your face when you remember this project and the good, bad and the funny moments. You cannot put a price tag on the sentimental times!

I’m with your dad in the fact that it’s a TON of work and at my age wouldn’t do it. My biggest issue with the entire truck is the fact that it has a salvage/rebuilt title. It seriously hurts it’s value but if you plan to never sell the truck and keep it in the family it’s a non issue. Seriously proud and happy for both of you guys! Awesome father and son team work! You’re never going to forget this Brad! Keep the truck!!!

Same guy that helped me swap a 231 v6 w/350 turbo out of a '79 Monte Carlo into a '79 chevy LUV pickup and we left the 4cyl rear end in it.. Fabricated all the mounts out of 3/8 steel . Had a buddy of his modify the driveshaft to fit n work. THAT SOB was fast. this was mid 80's Chevy hadn't even thought of puttin v6's into s10's yet. ya'll did an awesome job swappin it all over.. to me marking up everything is tiresome but better than hunt n peck later. wiring always is do it as ya go before ya forget how it went .

I build vehicles for a living at an auto factory. Yes, the guys at the factory COULD have done that swap in half the time. However, they are working on one or two vehicles at most for almost 4 years straight. They know those vehicles inside and out, and have all the tools set to proper torque specs ahead of time. Parts are right there when they need them. So the fact that you and your dad did a complete frame swap in under 24 hours by yourselves in your shop is a feat. You guys probably save 20 grand just by doing two days worth of work. This was a job and a half, and you guys crushed it. Great job!

I must say if This is your worst decision ever you’ve lived a very easy comfortable life. Imagine your entire life working for a company that goes belly up and you can’t find a job in todays times you don’t know how to feed your family who just lost their home in a flood hurricane you don’t have flood coverage because your not in a 500 year flood plain then at 38 you start developing massive seizures ones so severe you don’t know your 6 year old kids name for 18 hours.

Brad, you guys are doing the right thing. My family owned a shop in the Collision Repaair business for 50 years and have changed more than you would imagine. Ever since the late 90’s tne design and type of frame built has been difficult frame to repair if struck hard near the crossmembers.. They’re so difficult to ever get right. Good luck If you work on it pretty solid you could have uit done in 3-4 days .

Great to watch! If you need some help/advice with the airbag system replacement, computer reset hit me up. I've repaired a bunch and have a great source that can factory reset the SRS module.

Not sure why this popped up but it's perfect timing. I bought a 2017 Silverado high country 3500 Dually from a dealership for really cheap because it had 750,000 km on it ( divide by 1.6 for miles) I only grabbed it because I had a deal worked out for a 2020 engine, trans and T case with all the wiring for 15k Canadian - then the guy screwed me on the deal and sold to another guy for couple grand more. The truck was mint, and ran awesome but would go into limp mode occasionally and no one could pin point why. It progressively got worse and worse until I parked it because you couldn't drive it without having a programmer in your hand to clear codes, sometimes 5 times in 100 miles, sometimes 50 and not exaggerating. I just bought the complete drivetrain, wiring, computers, steering column, wheel, dash, all the entertainment and climate controls, and console from a 2021 Denali Dmax 3500 HD with 14,000 km on it for 15K. Now I have to yank the old Duramax, trans etc, and install the 2021 gear and swap the computers, wiring etc. All said and done I'll end up being 45k Canadian, not including fluids and labor into this truck. Im estimating labor in at 5000.00 so for a 100k truck im in 50%. I'm curious what issues I'm going to run into with wiring, how far I have to swap it and just how many sensors and modules I'm going to have to get reprogrammed to the 2021 computers. I've searched the interwebs and can't find anyone that's made this exact swap yet.

My grandad and I once took a 3/4 ton 07 Chevy apart completely and took the back side of a frame from another truck and welded it back together. Then put the cab, gas tank, and bed back on. It was quite the job but he had a brand new 2500 at the time for like 12k I think. It was a crazy big job but super rewarding haha
