Wow, that’s unbelievable! The fact that your family would kick you out of your own room to favor your sister and her husband is bad enough-but not even realizing that you’re the one who actually owns the house and covers all the bills? That’s next-level disrespect! You’ve shown incredible generosity by supporting your family like that, and it’s honestly shocking that they don’t appreciate or recognize everything you’re doing for them. Hopefully, this situation made them rethink their priorities and show you the respect you deserve. Stay strong and don’t let them take advantage of your kindness!

Alex's actions are justified and commendable. Family support is important, but it should never come at the expense of self-respect and boundaries. His decision to stand firm not only reclaims his space but also sends a clear message about mutual respect and accountability, which is crucial in any relationship, including family.

Did OP ever mention that he was the one paying for the mortgage, the household bills, and the food? Because if he didn't mention that he was the one paying for the mortgage, the household bills, and the food no one will know that he was the one paying for the mortgage, the household bills, and the food. But the family, at least the parents, had to know that OP was one paying for the mortgage, the household bills, and the food so there is no justification for doing this to the one paying for the mortgage, the household bills, and the food. At least now OP has resolved the situation and can perhaps return to peace in his own house that he pays for the mortgage, the household bills, and the food.

OP did the right thing. Mom started this whole mess by inviting people to live in a house that was not hers and giving permission regarding things that, again, was not her place to give. Dad was guilty by being complacent and not telling his family of leeches that their behavior was disrespectful and selfish. After they ate all the groceries that OP had just brought into the house and the mother fixing food, that she didn't buy or contribute to, and not making any for OP, she truly forgot her place. A strong dose of reality was sorely needed and now it's up to the parents. Not sure if i could identify clear narcissist in the family, but the OP was clearly the scapegoat growing up. Every family has predetermined roles like this unfortunately irregardless if a narcassist exist among them. Common sense says they should be remorseful but an established family dynamic that is now turning on its head because the scapegoat is setting boundaries predicts common human behavioural patterns or reactions of anger. In a sense its undetectable, but if you are self aware to any extent of your own entitlement do yourself and everyone else a favor and support and comply with a new healthier family dynamic based of mutual respect.

Next the baby needs diapers and formula and that becomes your responsibility too, not to mention baby clothes and anything else your brother and SIL want. If you don’t buy them whatever they want then you’re being selfish. Then Lisa: “Alex, the baby needs changing.” Alex: Then change him.” Lisa: “Can’t I’m in the middle of a really good movie.” Alex: “I’m in the middle of a long distance conference call.” Lisa: :Then take a break. The baby needs changing now or he’ll get a rash and it’ll be your fault for being lazy. I’m going back to my movie.” Something like this will happen on a regular basis and you’ll find yourself raising their kid while trying to do your job to pay the bills and everything else they want. Then when the baby becomes a toddler. He needs his own room. You’re evicted from the spare room, sleeping on the couch and still responsible for all the bills because you’re the only one working and if you don’t you’re being selfish.

This story really shows that standing up for yourself is tough, but absolutely necessary. Alex proved that self-respect is more important than giving in to toxic family dynamics.

I wish to point out a little problem with the basic room assignments! Master of the three bedroom two bath house staying in the master bedroom with second bedroom as his office invited parents to live with him with them taking third bedroom! Then pregnant sister and husband move in and would have said if staying on couch bed so there must be a bed in the office that guests can use temporarily! Problem is when says not giving up master and they can return to regular bedroom which was also his office where he was waiting for them to move out of master creating what i would call a problem still it sounds like 3 bed house is very full!
