I am a firefighter and I have carried this camera in my gear for over 15 years. Great battery life, works perfectly every time. Has seen every temperature extreme and works flawlessly in every condition.

I just stumbled onto your video. Thank you for making it and it's very timely. Last week I was rummaging around some storage and "rediscovered" 2 small p/s Canon cameras and 1 small Panasonic model. The Canon's are a sd1100is and a sd980is. The Panasonic is a dmc lz-8. I've actually got a decent 11x14 print from when we went on a cruise in 2009.

Nice review on the SD1000! Don't know if you are aware but you can load CHDK ( It's like Magic Lantern for Canon point and shoots) on these Canon point and shoots and it gives them additional features including shooting in RAW, I have the SD1000 and loaded CHDK. The RAW files give me much more latidude and ability to edit. ALso since you have jumped on the Point and shoot Bandwagon you should try out the Canon Powershot G Series. I have the G11 and LOVE it. I have the SD1000 but it doesn't come closse to my Powershot G11. The G11 colors look much beter and the lens is so much better.

A mid-2000s PowerShot like yours in good light is a great example of the way CCD sensors have less (super annoying) digital noise than the CMOS which replaced them. DSLR cameras with CCD sensors from that timeframe are even better! If you pair one with a high quality lens and keep to ISO100, the results are really quite film-like. Try a Pentax K100 or something like that with your prized, manual Pentax k-mount prime lenses. It may not be film, but it sure comes close. Happy snapping!

Awesome. Will look into that for sure. Cheers!

Hi Ben, great to see you back and like the new channel name. Picked up a boxed Canon Powershot SX100 IS last summer for 10GBP. Amazed by it and it is my daily carry now for the reasons you state. Bit chunkier than the SD but a crazy zoom (36-360mm), IS and full PASM control. Agree with your frustrations over the different batteries. Don't even get me started on the differences in USB port sizes!

Nice to see you and your inner peace. I feel the same at the moment and it feels sooooo good. I also use Film and digital side by side with no anger or fear

If you are looking for the "film look" I recommend the Fujifilm AX350 and the AX655. They have the film simulation "chrome". Also the Samsung ST76 has the "retro style smart filter" it produces a 1960's and 1970's color film vibe and not the DigiCam aesthetic.

I have a canon 190 is and that's what I use to take my photos. In my opinion the pictures are better those taken with a smart phone.
