I’m so thankful I grew up when I did. I legit went through “I’m a boy” stage when my older brother didn’t want to hang out with me anymore (context: we’re almost 6yrs apart, he was in middle school and I was in 3rd grade) so he and his friends would hang out with me. Straight up it lasted 6 months and then I was over it. If that happened now, I would have been transitioned. Literally thank God every day for that.

Teachers these days are so unhinged. Our Humanities teacher in highschool was a gay man, never ONCE saw him in a rainbow anything or with any LGBTQ flags etc in his classroom. Any time a student asked him anything about being gay he'd politely say the question had nothing to do with Humanities and move on...The only place in our school where there were gay pride etc postes was in the kids social club and in the PSE ( physical and sexual education ) class, which is appropriate and exactly where they belonged. My only sighting of trans identifying male was at an aftercare group affiliated with the local mental hospital. Never dis-liked anyone that fast before or since. I feel like the problem here is that these are the people that are really seen in media and not the normal lgbt people. every community has bad apples, that's how it works, but on the internet those same people seem to have an upper hand when it comes to views and popularity, because their behaviour can and will be called out, and that might even be their goal. but it's just wrong, because they all just push into the already unfavourable stereotypisation, which literally just hurts us all. this is not the way to fight for acceptance, especially when these people contradict (let it be lgbt or general) beliefs ((one of them for example that clothes have no gender)). I agree with this personally, I think people should be allowed to wear whatever they want while staying within reason, and for example the person that went to the bank w what looks to be a wig and a dress while sounding unmistakably masculine, like girl please no. We ended up having to change our regulations so that kids didn't call us Miss or mister anymore, just by our name because it was stressing the kids out at that school. The biggest problem was that appearance did not match her pronoun. If she was dressing like a guy when she wanted to be called Mr. and like a girl when she wanted to be called Miss, it would have been easier for the kids to deal with. But I still think in general when you're working with little kids, you should pick a pronoun. Do what you want in your personal life.

At age 14 I socially transitioned behind my parents backs and was called what I wanted at school and once I turned 18 I went on hormones for four years. I was completely with all the physical changes, and imagined myself a man well into old age. I had done my research, been socially transitioned for years before going on hormones. I was 1100% convinced I was meant to be a transgender man. But one day I woke up and started thinking about why. No one talks about why. There is no “why” you’re trans, it’s just who you are, right? No. There’s always a why. My mindset on a few things has always been the same. I never once believed I was going to be a real man and needed to be treated as such. I never once believed men belong in women’s sports or spaces. I don’t believe getting on hormones should take less than a year. I used the men’s room once I passed and wouldn’t make anyone uncomfortable. I loved it. But despite constantly thinking about the why for years and not seeing one so believing I was just born this way, one day it didn’t make sense. I wasn’t born this way. Why was I able to decide my own medication and treatment? Why was I able to get life altering drugs after a twenty minute consultation over the phone, without bloodwork? You’re not born trans. It is and always will be a mental DISORDER. Which is why insurance covers the hormones and surgeries! It is a mental disorder to be so absolutely revolted with your sex parts to want to completely remove or mutilate them. But no one ever once suggested why can’t you be okay with your body and the way you were born? What’s so wrong with fighting for that instead of fighting to change yourself? Would you be this encouraging if someone was so revolted with their nose they wanted a nose job? I was completely manipulated by people and adults who themselves have no right invading upon such a topic when they themselves are uneducated on it. The doctors who took an oath to do no harm are doing harm in order to keep their jobs. To not get sued for discrimination. The very people that approved the doctors and these treatments have no idea what the effects are going to be! I had horrible cramps and found out the testosterone was literally eating my uterus dissolving the vaginal canal. We are ruining our nation. Sweden and Denmark and Norway have already seen what puberty blockers do and are no longer prescribing them. The same drug they use to chemically castrate sex offenders being used on our kids! I’m so grateful I never had any surgery but I am now stuck with a deep voice forever and for the next couple years at least, facial hair. I have no idea how to be a woman and now that I want to try to be comfortable with the way I was born I will have a deep voice that will never go back. I can no longer sing good. I ended an 8 year relationship to get away from that lifestyle and now I have no idea how to be a woman and cannot imagine a man finding me attractive now. My heart breaks for every child who has lost years of their lives, their body parts, and their physical health and wellbeing for this insane massacre. I hope people wake up and wake up soon. Great comment. I've been watching a lot of videos on trans and detransition lately, trying to figure it all out. Its just so strange to me that anyone would want to change gender. Apparently it can be a result of trauma at a young age but many claim to have suffered no such trauma. Can I ask what you think is the cause?

@@wingnut71 I’ve always believed the reason people transition is because they suffer something called gender dysphoria. Nowadays people go so far to say that you don’t even need that mental illness to be transgender, but then why transition? From what I’ve gathered from the many different transsexuals I’ve spoken with, many stated they didn’t have a cause other than the gender dysphoria. I think a lot of different things can impact people and SOME teenagers to be diagnosed with gender dysphoria. For me, and it was eight years into transition that I discovered this and other trauma played a part into ME developing gender dysphoria, never saw my father ever really be nice to my mom and he always spoke of women very negatively, and I was naturally on the hairier end of girls and always felt very shamed about that and I viewed being a woman as what looked like the most exhausting and horrible thing to live as and I was raised to be a tom boy. I’ve worn one dress in my life. I am and always have been a very masculine person, short hair, etc. However I have an older sister who could be a model if she wanted to, very very feminine. So when impressionable 13 year old I “found out” from some equally traumatized kids at school that you could be the other gender, I thought I found the perfect thing. I did the research and even though I didn’t know at the time that being uncomfortable with your body was NORMAL for a teenager child, I equated that uncomfortableness to gender dysphoria and with severe mental illness that just really evolved the gender dysphoria into becoming so bad I seriously wanted to not exist because of it and what made me so willing to medically transition. I 100% believe you develop gender dysphoria either from trauma or by your own perception. I was so dysphoric about my breasts I’d wrap myself in ace bandage 12 hours a day. Now I like them, but I felt so horrible from mental illness and home life my child mind really needed something to focus those feelings on and it became my gender. Just from my experience most transsexual people completely refuse to dig into the why. It doesn’t even exist to them. If you don’t think about it it’s not a problem. I couldn’t deal with even the image of trying to lie to my future children about who I was going to be to them. I thank God for opening my eyes. It’s like I’m wearing glasses and I can finally see this for what it is. Money grab. Billion dollar industry. I pray for these kids because I thought I was smarter than this. for the facial hair, you can get laser hair removal. try to grow your hair out and style it. for your voice, i doubt its that bad, ive met girls with strange and weird voices, even my own voice is kinda deep, and u mentioned it being like that for the next few years, then that means it will wear off(?). which is a good thing. i would also recommend you to wear maybe dresses and skirts and stuffs that are cute. you should probably get rid of things (clothes, accessories..) that reminds you of your past (you could sell them or gift them). this one might be hard but you should cut contacts with old friends and partners. try to make friends through the hobbies you have (finding friends that like the same things as you, this could be painting, drawing..). and if you have the money for it, i highly recommend therapy. i hope you do well and i pray for your healing. if it makes you feel better, in middle school i was so confused with everything, growing up behind my phone, seeing all these lgbt videos, i was confused about my identity. whenever i saw an attractive girl and call her pretty to my online friends, they would call me gay, lesbian, bi.. it made me very confused and i began wondering if that was really the case. i was fed so many lies i began genuinely believing that i was anything but straight. all because i called a pretty girl pretty. only later did i realize that i can only see myself with a guy and have a family only with a man. after my eyes opened to the realization, i blocked all of those friends and did my best to stay away from anyone a part of it. looking back, i was so brainwashed that i can't help but think how stupid i was to think i was anything but a straight girl. this experience makes it so hard for me to support the people and their stupid beliefs. good thing is i found god and a good friend group that did not support lgbt. i am in a better place now, mentally and physically. may god help you further heal. and may you find the right people and the right path.

I've noticed the reductionist perspective of femininity and womanhood within the trans community for a long time, and it has always irritated me. I am genuinely offended by the human who posted "Misgendered at the Bank," who says "I am wearing a dress. I am wearing make-up. I am wearing eyeliner and eyeshadow and everything. Like, pfffft." Since I was a little girl, I've been a tomboy. If I had grown up now instead of during the 1990s and 2000's, I am certain I would have been convinced I'm transgender and should transition. When I was a kid, I refused to play on girls' sports teams (rules were often different for girls; we couldn't check in girls' hockey); my teachers assigned me to the boys' buses when we'd go on field trips; I didn't want to grow up to be a woman, in fact, I wanted to be Jean Claude Van Damme in Bloodsport when I was in middle school because I wanted to be strong and disciplined and loyal etc. (Yes, women can be these things but they are often not depicted in such a way in media, especially not in the 90s...as an athletic kid, I didn't identify with sexy seductresses or damsels in distress, but I did identify with male characters who were often faced with physical and mental challenge that they overcame so I got the message it was better to be male). I cried when I started to get boobs because I couldn't walk around shirtless anymore, and it made being in locker rooms with my dude teammates uncomfortable due to their teasing. I fucking hated buying and being forced to wear my first bra with its stupid frilly lace strap things. Yuck. I dressed like a boy because I liked--and still like--boy stuff. I wore baggy pants and boxers and t-shirts. I remember when I started puberty and then high school feeling external and internal pressure to conform so I started to dress more "feminine;" the first pair of American Eagle flare jeans I ever bought made me feel so awkward and self conscious. Blehhh. I can still see myself in my childhood bedroom pulling those jeans on...still see the bedroom door as I walk through it so I could "model" for my Mom who was just so happy I wanted to look "nice." Dude. As an adult woman in her mid 30s, I'm confused for a chapstick lesbian quite often because of the kind of work I do (fisherman, construction, snowmaking, dirt work...) and the stuff I wear like Carhartts and hoodies and flat bill hats. I don't get upset with people when they assume I'm gay, though, because according to social constructs regarding how females should look if they're straight, I don't fit the bill. My internal struggles as a straight woman who is "masculine" according to social constructs are challenging to articulate. But I've always felt pressure to be more "feminine" like to let men take the lead at work or in relationships, to dress in uncomfortable clothes or lingerie, to be less direct... Anyway. I could go on. But womanhood is so much more than clothes. And like other people have said, how can I not feel like a girl? It's the only experience I'm having...do I see the advantages in being male? Yeah, I do. But do males see advantages in being female? Yeah. I'm sure they do. And a lot of those advantages come down to how society has been constructed and actually have nothing to do with being a person in the world who has male or female (or, rarely, both) genitalia. Roar. My nephew is now my "niece", at family gatherings I just can't! I address him by terms of endearment (honey, sweetie, etc.) but I just cannot bring myself to call him she or her or by the new name. He was a gorgeous man, even did male modeling, he was on billboards on the side of 2 buildings in Chicago. Now he looks like a 6'3" very thin man in a dress. When my sister explained that the name I had known for 28 years was now his "dead name" I seriously felt like I was grieving my nephew. Pretend on Halloween! I remember when a group of boys dressed up like women on Halloween. Hilarious watching them wobble up the sidewalk on high heels! I bet they were never so happy, then to get back in the regular clothing!
