It is rare when a performance is BETTER than expected.....this is the case with Lea. Almost a perfect performance.....just wow!

Of course Lea is hilarious. Did people ever watched Rachel Berry on Glee? Is people blinded by the hate? Only her faces on Glee were Golden Globe Award deserving.

No, they just believe thats Lea and not acting. I can't. And they surely didn't watch scream queens. Also Lea was nominated for an Emmy and 2 golden globes for lead COMEDY actress...

I saw her last night and was blown away. I knew she was going to be good but I didn’t realize she’d blow me away and leave Z E R O crumbs. Buying another tickets as soon as I can bc my lord. No hate to beanie but respectfully Fanny was not the right role for her. She’s talented. Just not Fanny Brice Edit. Beyond jealous that you got her autograph. I didn’t even think to go to the stage door until after it was crowded and I’m so mad I didn’t get her autograph but I’m also so glad I got to see her in person.🤩

Ok , you are maybe the most honest of these youtubers. Your observations were very astute. After Beanies casting, I went online to hear her sing, and they downplayed her singing, which was weird, then I heard all the crazy rumors and hate against Lea, years later. Her talent gave her costars a nice paycheck and fame for years but they were jealous because she was the star. Though an outcast , because they were all LA cattle call kids. ( Lea said that Jenna was also from Broadway). It seems since Beanie is a plus size and LGBTQ she gets this outsider pass, when in reality , she is a spoiled nepotism baby who skipped out the second weekend to go to a wedding. Then quit abruptly when she got criticized. Lea was just a goofy . kid whose friend needed a ride to an audition so 8 year old Lea went along too. ( when she went to audition the New Years Eve for Gary Marshall she told him " Hey, I'm from the Bronx too, and I know people so you better give me this part or else. ." Yes she is a funny girl!)

You're so funny, adorable. But, no! Feldstein was not set up to fail. She's an entitled princess who let her rich family buy her a vanity Broadway project and she didn't even cared to ask herself if she had the goods to deliver. Why would anyone set her up to fail? I actually think that she got it pretty easy and people were making way too much excuses for her mediocrity. The critics should have been WAY harsher. If that girl had a little bit of self-awareness and stopped to ask herself if she was an enough good singer for such a role instead of overestimate herself, she would not have gotten into this mess in the first place. So no, when you have to rationalize too much in order to enjoy a performance, it's because it sucks. At the price of the tickets, the public deserve much more. Why do people protect her so much? Are they afraid of being accused of fat shaming? It has nothing to do with her weight. I was very open to a fat Fanny. But not to a Fanny who can't sing.

First of all, thank you so much! By set up to fail I just meant that I think someone in the production team must've clocked that Beanie wasn't the right fit for the role and wasn't going to pull it off, so the bad reviews and reception would be even more of an excuse for Lea coming in to replace her. Curious to hear your thoughts on Lea's portrayal?

Update; it’s worse than I honestly could have ever thought. Not just the singing. The caricature of her acting. Why all the faces??? The ..the..everything. kzbin.info/www/bejne/an7OZX2Vo9qfqtk

I agree with you. I do not understand why so many people have tried to cover for Beanie or why they insist that she is so “kind” or “sweet” when they have never met her and have no idea. She certainly wasn’t kind to her understudy Julie Benko, and according to insiders, Beanie will never work on Broadway again, following her attempt to quit before she was fired. The reviews were consistent in describing Beanie’s performance as sub par, thin, reedy, nasally, not what one would expect on Broadway and even unpleasant at times but no one was unduly mean & nasty. They merely wrote the truth. Like you, I cannot fathom being in Beanie’s position and believing that without any experience or training, I would be able to pull off such a demanding and “once in a lifetime” role. Perhaps she never even thought of it that way. Perhaps all that mattered to her was that she wanted it. I don’t know but it is hard for me to be sympathetic when she has displayed no respect for the craft, no respect for the hours, days and years of training which go in to having the kind of voice a much more talented person like Lea Michele brings to the table. It wasn’t fair to the audiences but it was also unfair to the other members of the production, especially Ramin Karimloo who delivered a far better performance when paired with Lea Michele. As the OP says in the video, the scenes with Ramin and Beanie as Nick & Fanny were downright creepy and uncomfortable. I was frightened when she cackled. I felt sorry for Ramin in the Monte Carlo scene when a very bossy Beanie/Fanny demanded that he kiss her. It was obvious that he was acting under duress, as if he was being forced to kiss a woman he had no interest in. Compare this to the same scene with Ramin and Lea as Nick & Fanny. He scoops her up, twirls her around and their kisses are always mutually enthusiastic. This plays well into the “Sadie, Sadie,” segment and there are no words for Lea’s performances of “The Music that Makes me Dance” (Beanie left off the last note while Lea delivered a powerful finish) and their duet-“who are you now?” These songs tell the story which was completely absent in Beanie’s performance. There was no emotional depth to Beanie’s performance at all. I read that she said she took clown classes to prepare for the role and that does track. She just didn’t appear to understand her character. She played Fanny as a caricature, as if she was mocking her.

Same, I want to watch it again. It was amazing. Lea Michele is Fanny Brice, absolutely believable and her singing is out of this world. I just need to fly to NY again, not easy but that is the plan.

You're so cute and funny! Love this review and love how honest you were about it all. Seems to be in a similar vein to what everyone else is saying, and I feel for Beanie I really do but I'm so happy for Lea to get a role that is so perfect for her! I hope Beanie gets her own role like that in the future. Btw are you Aussie?
