@@GNX157 I presently operate an engine that ingested a straw from PB Blaster... sometimes I worry about my "valve." Every once in awhile. When I feel it not idle smooth. But I really like watching the real time misfire counters on this one. I love that I now know some of the symptoms of a possible bad valve issues. I thought valves could be replaced if you take a head off?

@@82_KID yes they can be, however going by what Kenny is saying, there is a known design or manufacturing problem with the head or engine, so best to let a dealer handle it if still under warranty.

@@GNX157 OH yeah. Under warranty for sure. I have a Subaru EJ251 and I'm almost certain it had head gaskets replaced under warranty. If I don't have an issues when it gets hot out I don't even need to worry about it.. (I bought the metal "turbo gaskets" AND head bolts anticipating it needed to be done. That side cylinder head has major issues, very common and I've done several , Also be warned, when replacing 02 sensors use OEM and make sure they don't get mixed up , you will chase a stupid misfire that makes no sense.

subscribed, have you ever seen the 2004 chevy malibu high rev problem? my mother has one that just suddenly starts revving up, to the point its at 5k rpms. I replaced the throttle body, iac, egr valve, throttle position sensor, a pcv hose. and a few other things. i made sure the inegr passages were clean. The dealer can't fix it. and so far i can't either. car only has 32k miles. whenever i replace the throttle position sensor it runs perfect for a day or two then right back to revving high. mom had a fender bender because it revved to 5k at a red light. and she's too stubborn to stop driving it.

Interesting video Kenny, would have been neat to find out whether the dealer covered the problem. It’s seems like in today’s times when the manufacturers are building such crap and gouging consumers Pocketbooks, they are turning a blind eye for repairs on such poor quality in every domestic product they are putting out! You don’t have to go far to see gm’s lifter debacle and the giant engineered deceit they’ve created there or ford’s 5.4L 3 valve triton I believe, or dodge’s hemi engine head problems and transmission quality problems that they are giving consumers the run around!!! Hell you’re getting Chinese parts in a bag from an OEM GM parts department!!! That’s just a few problems that doesn’t include all the small turbocharged POS that the manufacturers are building! You Kenny know it cause you’re in the business of fixing the POS!! Too bad 90% of most human beings don’t understand how bad the domestic car & truck industry has come! The quality doesn’t match what the domestic auto industry is pushing out there! Kinda sad times for the consumer because of the insanely poor Quality versus the insanely greedy high prices they have on these products!!! They’re BLEEDING HUMANITY DRY with POOR QUALITY cars and trucks along with insanely OVERPRICED PARTS and REPAIRS!!! Every repair starts from $500 up through Thousands of dollars!!! That’s what happens when the government gets involved!!

Could also be a bad cam/lifter. My buddies hemi challanger just had the same issue. Lifter ate the cam lobe. His is a 2011 6.4 hemi challanger. Different symptoms. Just talking. Obviously his misfired constantly. The shop he took it to put a cam lifter kit in it. Had a bad tick immediately. 600 miles later the shop had to put another kit in it. Feom what I've read when the hemis specifically have this issue. Dodge won't even put a cam in them if they are under warranty. They replace the entire longblock.

I've experienced a few burned valves on that 3.6 even newer than 2014 in which compression tested good and it was only by using the process of elimination we arrived at removing the cylinder head to find the valve damage. If the plugs were easily accessible, a running compression might reveal it but the leak down tests didn't always show it but often did.

It would intermittently stumble and hesitate in parking lots every once in a while as the original complaint Would throw a random misfire code. That was a Dodge.😢

I’m a certified master mechanic who had a terrible coke problem. One night while grinding my teeth trying to understand the complexity of a fuel injected motor when I dropped an 8 ball right into that mother fucker!!! The coke fixed the hesitation that was present when accelerating! I then realized I was staring at a stranger’s vehicle and they didn’t want me working on it and running around them throwing coke in the air like it’s rice from a shitty wedding wasn’t what they wanted me to do either. Cops were involved, long story short cocaine doesn’t help your motors. Also? Believe it or not but I’m NOT a master mechanic like I had thought I was just a drug addict. Cocaines a hell of a drug.

EVERY DEALERSHIP robs people every day. Many don’t have mechanics that have the ability to honestly reliably diagnose a vehicle. They DONT WANT TO because it makes them more money to just throw parts at it. Mechanics get paid % of parts and the dealership makes a fortune on parts. Highway robbery. Never use a dealership if at all possible. And nowadays their OEM parts can be made from several companies and are not true OEM. You’re told they for extra high pricing. Again, thievery at its best.

I replaced a broken oil cooler housing on 130,000 mile my 2011 grand Cherokee With an aluminum one. While I was there, I decided to change the plugs and had the injectors out and had them cleaned also. I should’ve changed the knock sensors while I was at it but so far, I haven’t had a problem with them. But the factory plugs were incredibly worn out. Runs great, My mpg seemed to have increased by 2. But sure don’t want to that job again.

Pretty sure I’m having this issue with my 2014 Malibu 2.5L. I swapped coil packs and the misfire remains on the same cylinders. I also replaced all four injectors and although the car runs a little better the misfires remain on those same cylinders. My theory is it’s either a warped cylinder head or the VVT high lift mechanism on the rocker arm is bad on said cylinders.

The diagnosis was correct; the initial guess wasn't. When you have an issue with a complex machine, guessing the cause is not making a diagnosis. It's a place to start the troubleshooting process. A scope and pressure transducer might be able to capture the misfire and capture a better real time picture of what was happening. If the valve is sticking and you shut down while it is happening, a bore-scope could check its periphery and scorch patterns for evidence.

Can't beat the experienced mechanic who can pinpoint the fault almost immediately from day to day, hands on, repair work. Saves a lot of head scratching and deposits in the swear jar. Idle time issues might indicate over heating in area's of the engine hue to bad coolant or oil circulation. Certainly seems to highlight a basic design problem when not all the engines are problematic.

It's too bad that engines are setup the way they are. Bending over an engine really puts the legs, knees, lower back and neck in some awkward working positions. I would love to see an engine that with minimal effort, would slide right out to the front or side, so it is possible to work on any part of it, without having to be a contortionist. I need to replace various gaskets on my 2006 Kia Sportage. I'm not positive which ones are the main problem, but it would be a whole lot easier if I had access to all the sides of the engine.

Had a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6 with these EXACT symptoms. I found a broken valve spring on the misfiring cylinder. Replaced that and has run great for 2 years now. It was very weird, if you ran it hard right on start up, it wouldn't misfire, but if you drove it gentle it would do it almost every time. If you drove it through the misfire, it would clear up and run great after just 2-3 minutes.

Sometimes if it’s sticky valves right before doing an lof put a quart of kerosene in the crankcase and let it idle for 20-30 minutes then change the oil cleans valve stems, passages, and gunk out of the engine. Then change your oil and filter and recheck when it’s cold to see if the misfire is still there after you swapped out both the coil and injector

Funny that that is the issue, in diesel those issues are usually caused by lack of fuel. Which is why they used to run a pyrometer on exhaust. It helps the driver know when to down shift under heavy load. But it will also happen when ignition timing is off slightly. I used to build and dyno diesels, and getting them to make spec HP without high exhaust temps requires a lot of tuning skills. If this was an issue with Mopar stuff, I'll bet that the computer spec is just a bit off, and that is why they burn valves. Probably a calibration issue.
