I love how Abed goes back to his natural demeanor as soon as Jeff gets real, like he realizes he's gotten in over his head. And Jeff's so wrapped up in himself he doesn't even notice. This was so well done.

I think it is brilliant how Danny Pudi was able to show Abed's discomfort with Jeff's "real talk" even while trying to hide it. It's true to his character, despite it being the goal of this whole facade. Such a great episode!

@@riemannspupil5095 Not trying to sound rude, but do you know how Abed normally acts in Community? I get that it seems like normal (or even wooden) acting to a bunch of people who haven't seen the show, but if you have seen the show and are familiar with the character's typical demeanor, there's a lot of details and little things to pick up. It's honestly an incredible performance. There's a lot of subtle differences/nuances in Abed in this clip, stuff that you wouldn't pick up on if you don't know default Abed that well.

I especially love how there is that tiny hint of normal Abed when he's talking just after Jeff admits he called a phone sex line, at 1:33. Because after a confession like the one Jeff just delivered, normal Abed would be confused and would therefore drop his smooth, relaxed facade, which definitely shows in his slight change in demeanor. Danny Pudi truly is a phenomenal actor...

_My Dinner With Andre_ (1981) kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIeVmnmneMx1nqc _My Dinner With Andre_ is a movie where a smart man (Andre Gregory) is speaking to another smart man (Wallace Shawn) about ideas. The two men are members of New York City's intelligentsia in real life and really used to talk about things like this. The gag is Abed is supposed to be the Andre Gregory character but acts more like Wallace Shawn's character during their exchanges. When it gets emotional rather than esoteric Abed begins to break down because he doesn't have the equipment to handle it. It's also a bait-and-switch because Jeff was only there to bring Abed to his Pulp Fiction themed surprise party, while Abed had created his own M.D.W.A. surprise party to interact with Jeff.

Not sure who writes the scripts but Dan Harmon must've made a lot of specifications when it came to this scene. There's a lot of Rick Sanchez in what Jeff is saying

Pretty sure Jeff/Rick is a favorite character type of Harmon - the jaded, life's realer than real, you know nothing, I'm better than you, I hate everyone/Everyone's an idiot but myself, narcissistic prick type --- cause... that's basically Harmon. HAHA
