Thanks for the inspiration on the desk. I went with a similar design but I cut 2 ft off the 8ft top and then joined the piece in an L shape with some dowels and glue. Also for your risers Im still looking for something I like, but a tip for yours would be to use pan head instead of oval screws. Thanks again.

Is the Alex and Karlby combo WITHOUT the leg stands still too high for shorter people? 5'6 or shorter? Just wondering would a KARLBY and HELMER combo work? Helmer is 26" high without castors but would 2 of these support the Karlby?
@LukePollack2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s too high, I’m 5’8 and I have the 2 inch risers and it’s perfect. I think without the risers you would be fine. Also I don’t see why the helmer drawers wouldn’t work.

hi is this version of the desk a wood peace or walnut veneer? Does it scratch easily?
@LukePollack Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say it scratches easily at all, it definitely can get scuffed, but it’s a solid wood on top of a pretty sturdy particle board wood. So there is at least an inch or so of thickness on the top.

How do you keep the countertop from sliding off of the desk risers? Does it just sit on top of the risers and let gravity be the anchor...
@LukePollack2 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly. There weight of the countertop is already so heavy it doesn’t really move around. Although if you wanted you could add some rubber pads to the furniture risers, and that would really keep it from moving.

I see the risers are screwed to the Alex Drawer, but are the risers also screwed or somehow else adhered to the countertop itself?
@LukePollack2 жыл бұрын
the risers are screwed to the Alex Drawer, but the karlby countertop is just held down by gravity. It honestly doesn't really move at all with everything on it unless you really push it.
@sc0rp404 Жыл бұрын
why not drill the furniture risers into the table and not ruin the alex drawers?
@LukePollack Жыл бұрын
I actually thought about this, but the weight displacement of drilling the risers into the table instead of the drawers, would have made the desk less stable. Especially since there is nothing anchoring the desk to the drawers except for gravity.

The bar in the middle is very unnecessary. The Bowing really only happens with their linmon top and you don’t have the weight that would even bow that.
@LukePollack2 жыл бұрын
Funny you should mention that. Initially I had built the desk without the bar, but over the course of about 2 weeks it started sagging in the middle. It’s been almost a year since I initially added the bar there’s been no sagging at all.
