They can take venomous snake bites and then kill the snake. One opossum eats approx 5000 ticks per season. They are prehistoric as well. Very amazing, gentle and helpful little spirits! Thank you for saving this one!!

Love that gradual possum side eye of….”wait…you aren’t gonna eat me…? Okay…so what is this giant, making squeaky noises at me…?” Scared, but curious. They are so cute. We had a possum porch pirate with a penchant for cat food, little one like this. It was so sweet, but they don’t stay in one place very long.

It's a little late, but possums gain independence pretty small, and that one is more than big enough. If it's uninjured, let it go. If it's injured, call a wildlife rehabilitator.

They make great pets. Get it a litter box asap, there a videos of people feeding them different foods so you can get an idea of what they like to eat. Good luck and enjoy your new friend. Imprint on it as much as you can, hold it and talk to it whenever possible. Life expectancy is 2 years in the wild and as long as four in captivity.

They love Fruit & call your local animal shelter or veterinarian for information. If you can help it, clean it up & show your dog this is not for play or food. They are marsupials, not rodents (in case you didn't know). 💕 You're doing a good thing. They're good to have around because they eat bugs like ticks & black widows, etc.

First, it needs water. Give her a bowl or try a few drops from an eye dropper. Is there a vet university with a small animal clinic that offers services at their cost? Sometimes animals will look close to death but then recover quickly. Next, it needs warmth. Then try soft wet cat foot, & goat milk or milk made from goat milk powder (from pet store). It may say for rescued kittens. Many animals don't tolerate cow milk. Opossums are omnivores like humans and their tastes vary a lot. I have one that comes every nite wanting chicken and oatmeal/peanut butter bars. They like bananas too. And ham. Talk softly and take it slow.

Luna actually is very gentle other than the slobber. She has a support stuffed animal she carries around and treats as gentle as a baby. If it has been a different dog the opossum may not have faired as well. I'm thankful it was Luna. I don't like any living beings to be harmed.
@jaxonbroussard9833 Жыл бұрын
it doesn't look too too young, opossums don't often carry rabies, their body temperature is too low. but Opossums do drop their young off while they ride on their mom's back as a way to spread out from one another to decrease competition between each other for food. up to you really, any vet would be able to tell you how well off the lil guy is. dogfood or cat food is something I've seen people feed their opossums online so I'm guessing its ok for em. as pets they're pretty good I've come to understand, I don't know about the messy side of opossums but i know they're affectionate and fairly sweet, sadly even in captivity they live 2-4 years at most. id say get it checked to be safe, and go from there. Goodluck!

@@carolyneubank9955 Thank you for releasing it. Possums actually don't do very well in captivity unless the person caring for them is trained to do so. They have very specific dietary needs that most people just can't fulfill. If they don't have enough of certain nutrients very bad things happen with their bones. They're better off in the wild.
