Thank you so much for posting your experience with MegaE. My 11 year old black lab was just diagnosed with this. Bless you for taking on a special needs baby. You're lucky to have each other! I've been searching for help with this and you have given so much useful info. So far it's the drinking that is the most complex, but I'm going to try that slow water bowl you mentioned. Does Coal cough/heave without bringing anything up? Our Bo has been doing this, even when he doesn't in take anything. We got him an inflatable e-collar which seems to help a little. I understand from what I've read it could be from the saliva's inability to drain past the esophagus. I'm worried about the possibility of pneumonia. The vet put him on anti acid meds(famotadine) and metronidazole. They said he will need to be on these for life. The metronidazole is what I'm concerned about because it's an antibiotic meant to treat inflammatory bowel disease. I was wondering what meds your dog takes. Im having a hard time trusting this vet, but there are so little options that are convenient to my location and lifestyle. I would appreciate so much any advise you could offer.

Coal does sometimes cough/have without any production. I think it seems to be more acid related than anything. When we got his nighttime collar (so the e collar you have), he really improved with that. Coal only takes acid medication, but I cant remember off the top of my head which one. Look on Facebook for the group 'Upright Canine Brigade'. They are where I learned everything I know about ME! The group is an outstanding resource for food, medications, even just tips and tricks. Usually someone from the group is always quick to answer questions when you have an immediate need too! They are wonderful, I highly recommend joining that group and learning everything you can! Each ME dog is different and it is such a diverse group that usually SOMEONE throughout the group has a similar situation and can provide guidance when needed! We are very lucky with Coal, he has very mild ME, so I feel like they are a much better resource than this one video could ever give you! S

And if you feel uneasy about what a vet is telling you, I would always get a second opinion. Every vet in my area told me to put Coal down until I finally found a vet willing to help me care for him, then he thrived!

@Leslie Moguel wonderful! I made this video because when we first received our diagnosis we knew NOTHING. Our vet is actually still learning right along with us, but he's the only one in our area who hasnt given our boy a death sentence.

Cole is so lucky. I have a year old Belgian Tervuren with ME. Please take a peek at www.BronsonsMegaPuffs.com. They are wholesome, delicious treats for ME dogs! 💕🐶
