I bought a dog for my daughter, 12 years ago. I’m not a dog person, l made a lot of mistakes. Truth is l know she doesn’t like me because of those mistakes. I wish that l had educated myself more on dog ownership. She is reasonably trained. I’m just going to try to do more to fix my mistakes l hope it’s not too late. We do have lots of snuggles and cuddles.

I have inadvertantly hurt (?) my dog apparently. It was via grooming mistakes, and he to give her pills for an infection. That didn't go well. Now, she acts as if I actively torture her. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am very positive toward her. Treaties for reinforcement etc. She is such a wonderful girl. I love her beyond words. I've always chosen positive training. I guess I'll have to work on her being comfortable with approaching me. Thank you for giving me some ideas to try.

This may sound stupid,but when I went to see my very shy dogs for the first time and the Lady wanted to see if they would go with me alone on the other end of the leash without her present I sang to them the whole way and I am a horrible singer!!! Choose a light positive song (what shall we do with the drunken sailor/Mamma Mia...anything) it takes the fokus a little away from them and that helps both of you over time they realize what you do is meant to help them ❤️🐶

Just got a puppy for the family about a month ago, the pup loves the wife and kids but for whatever reason will not come near me. He does however play with me and sleep with me. He does not allow me to go near him any other time, no petting, and will not come close enough to take treats. It’s frustrating not in a way of anger or anything but in a way where I’ve tried different things and none of them have helped 😢

If it were me, I’d hand feed them only. Get down to their level (sit and look small) keep a distance away that doesn’t make them nervous. Don’t face them front on because eye contact scares them - Start by throwing the food gently behind you (don’t look at them - face your back to them as you gently/slowly throw the food (under hand rather than overhead) in their direction. Over time, they will walk closer to get the food.

Thank you so much for this video. I just did a search because 4 days ago I got a nine week old puppy and I've never had a puppy to train before. And I want to do everything right. So I tell her no in a sharp voice if she choose my hand or my clothes or a pillow. And it just seems today I noticed looking her in the eye if I could read her mind I felt like she was afraid of me. so i have a family dog i give him the most treats out of the family i walk him the most but he seems to like my other family members more and when ever i am walking he just runs away or whenever im near he hides behind a family member so i gave him more attention and treats and nothing seems to work i never done bad to the dog

Hello, I have a female dog called Luna ( she is a french bulldog ) and she is ALL OF A SUDDEN hiding from us in the bushes in our garden and she won’t come out so it is getting to the point in which we have to carry her out of the bushes……..I’m not sure what to do and I am very worried about her . Do u have any tips on how to make this any better? And this video was very helpful and I think the reason she is doing this is because someone in my family must have stepped on her paw or something like that. How are you supposed to stop a puppy from doing something wrong if you aren't allowed to correct them with an assertive tone to le them know they are doing something bad?

You redirect them as quickly as possible and reward them for the correct behavior. If possible ignoring them during some behaviors can be powerful too. For example giving them regular chances to pee outside and praise or treat them. If they pee inside you have to take them outside as quickly as possible and give them the chance to go. Connecting single words or phrases and hand gestures is good for commands like go potty and point to the yard. I have watched my girlfriend train countless foster dogs like this and never yell or get physical with the dog. You can move towards many desirable behaviors with positive reinforcement and redirection, as opposed to punishment.

My dog was basically a badger, i do love the dog but grandkids couldn’t be around her, i should have purchased a golden retriever. I was even afraid of her, she has worn me out, I didn’t scream at her, but she saw me across the room losing my shit, it was too much after awhile, I’m just a human….I’m not ignoring her, but I have started to pull away from her….kinda over her. I have spent so much time playing fetch and other games, and still she will growl if i try to put her in my lap, yet it was ok for her to actually bite me? She still does it when she’s tired, will randomly come up and try to chew on me.

I try to be gentle and loving toward my dog. Yet she is hiding my needed shoes and clothes and this is causing stress for both of us. I put out old clothes with my scent. I have a small place. Her stress is showing up as seizures after getting a good medical check. She spends most of the day in her "den", a closet, isolating from me. My dog recently got a small red rash sore on her belly between her baxk legs. Ive had her 2 years and everything has been fine. I bought an antimicrobial spray and as i sprayed it and tried to rub it on her belly and she freaked out srarted running round my bedroom to avoid me. At firsf i thought it was funny she has never had a reason to fear me. I very quickly stopped as i realised she was beiinv genuinely scared. Three weeks later i was brushing my cat who loves it and my dog was sat next to mr so j brushed my dog who freaked out and ran. When she sat back down i stroked her held her collar and brushed her 10 times. I let go of the collar and she ran. I dont unddstand the brush didnt even have any bristles just little rubber strands. So then j try to do our usual biscuit belly rubs and snuggles for bedtime.. and she wont come anywhere near me. Im devastated and dont understand...

I got 2 puppy chihuahuas from a dog breeder (the dogs are very comfortable with the breeder), they are incredibly afraid of me. I do not scream, yell or even speak loudly. i do not make any fast movements or anything of that sort. No matter how nice and patient i am, they’re afraid. I rescued a basset hound during some really cold weather. I can tell he has been abused because he has very submissive behavior. For three weeks in a row he didn't pee in the house and everything was great. Then all of a sudden he started doing it every. single. day. I tried putting him in a crate with just enough space to turn around and he will piss and lay in it. Sometimes I will let him out in the morning and he has only peed a little. I will open the outside door and the door to his crate, which is right by the door, and instead of taking one step outside to go pee where he goes every other time during the day, he goes right on the floor. It's so extremely frustrating. When I open the door to his crate I walk away so he isn't scared, but he still does his stupid submissive stuff. He squats down right in front of the open door and pees everywhere. I didn't want to take him to the pound, but that's where he's going if it doesn't stop very soon. I've been cleaning up piss for weeks now. It's so ridiculous.

You should take him to the pound, thanks for rescuing him, but by your demeanor you don't sound like you want to keep him. That plus the fact you've been having thoughts of taking them to the pound is indicative towards my idea that you won't do the best you can training this behavior out of them. Meanwhile someone at the pound would probably be able to do it.

I took the pad out of his crate and cleaned up his pee every single morning for around 6 weeks until he finally stopped. Now he's a wonderful dog. Maybe keep your mouth shut next time unless you have some useful advice.

Let him be in charge of feeding or going on walks ,and this may sound silly but play some relaxation music (KZbin has some for dogs)while the male person gives her a chewy treat than just let them be relaxedly in the room to soak in peace and quiet

i have two pups. received them when they were 7 week olds. a boy and girl. the boy from the start had no fear at all. they are now over 3 months old, and she still shows fear. trying to touch her is like chasing a chicken. if i do catch her she will wiggle like crazy to get away from me. you can actually see the "i dont trust you" look in her eyes. she will come close to me on her own but if i try and control her by touching or picking her up, no way.

How do I get my dog to go potty outside. We have a set schedule (for months) and keep it pretty open throughout the day as well depending on her food or water intake but no matter what; even leaving her out there for a good couple hours, she’ll still come inside and pee or poop in the bathroom if it’s open or right outside the bathroom door. Placing her in her kennel or taking her right back outside immediately does not work.

I have the same thing going on with my itty bitties. They're shelter dogs who were taken from their previous owners, that's all the history I know. I also have bathroom breaks scheduled throughout the day, I have another dog, we'll be outside for 30-40 minutes at the least but the 2 little ones will come or go in the house and go do their thing in the bathroom it makes me crazy. Help please

If you have a mat or something your dog poops on take the whole thing outside (poop still on ) and see if it can learn to start doing it there next time,it should be a put in a place where the dogs feels safe enough to " let go"

My dog randomly growled at me. Out of my reaction i gave a spank on the bottom (1) only once. Hes 2 im usually able to be all over him but for some reason when i put my hand on him he growled. My uncle used to keep dog treats in his pocket to keep the dog following him. He'd pet and give the treat to put the two together. Be sweet, too- my dad ignores our Maltese (a breed bred to need a lot of affection) and she barely hangs out with him if there's another option. It's a relationship and it takes two to tango. And if it's a little dog, you'd be surprised how easily you can scare them- be gentle and don't yell at a little dog. Think of the size difference.
