The fact that your dog is so well trained makes the “crazy” way easier to handle lol! I’ve met dog owners who don’t train their dogs beyond a sit and then barely exercise them and complain about how crazy the dog is 🤦🏻‍♀️

No, he raised his own dog from a very young age. Untrained adult Aussies with a lot of bad habits and misunderstanding about our human society and human-dog relations is a pain. Instead of herding, they will do everything to attract your attention. They try to manipulate you by constantly following you. They are very territorial and hostile to other dogs or even other humans. They are timid and will be aggressive because of fear. They will annoy other dogs and other animals which will often end up with potential fights if you don't intervene constantly. They need a lot of proper training and they don't seem to be able to control their energy burst. Aussies are not bad dogs but they just don't fit into our modern society very well.

@@trumplostlol3007 This person is exaggerating. Aussies make amazing pets. You, with every dog species, you need to train them. There really only are a few dogs that naturally aggressively be friendly and affectionate with strangers. Aussies if trained and have the right personalty they can make some of the best therapy and comfort dogs.

@@trumplostlol3007 I adopted an adult dog that wasn’t socialized before we got him. I can contest that it takes some extra work, but the dog can become sociable and loving. You really just got to work with them and focus on the cause of their reactions rather than the actual behavior. You can fine tune things later. Heck, this dog is going to become a service dog in the future.

@@phoenixssong3492 Every dog is different. Your assumption that since your dog is ok means nothing to other dogs. Every dog has a different history and a different personality. There are many dogs that are put down every year because of different kinds of aggressive behaviors. Your assumption that one untrained dog is ok implies every other dog is ok is dangerous. There are dogs that have been abused and dogs that have mental issues, just like humans. Did your dog pee and poo inside the house when you first got it? LOL Try to adopt a dog that has put in the yard and is allowed to bark like crazy all its life. Try to adopt a dog that is aggressive, territorial, and fearful at the same time. Try to adopt a dog that is reactive to the sound made by an owl. Try to adopt a dog that refuses to pee and poo outside at night because of some cars driving on a nearby highway, and then just pees inside the house when you get angry cause it is chewing its own bed. You can't go soft and you can't go tough. I have been playing with my dog outside EVERY SINGLE day and she is still very reactive to people and bikes moving around outside. She is still very reactive to sound made by cars, people chatting, and even wild turkey. She barks like crazy even inside the house when the garbage truck passes by. You know nothing about my dog. So, it is better for you to just shut up.

There is a difference between "not willing to train" and "not able to train". Not every dog owner is a professional trainer who can spend hours and hours with dogs. Dogs are NORMALLY trained at a very young age by their parents. Dogs need to be socialized and taught by other dogs when they are very young. They need some kind of role models, just like humans and cats do. But dogs are different because they are born to be more aggressive and dangerous than cats and they are incapable of controlling their aggression like humans, unless they have been socialized with other well trained dogs at a very young age. Don't blame dog owners. Blame dog breeders.
@poopzassshit
@poopzassshit 3 жыл бұрын
@@trumplostlol3007 there is definitely a problem with breeders, lots of them breed unethically to get unique dogs to sell for premiums. Though I would disagree that dog owners are blameless. There are many irresponsible dog owners who are too lazy to train thier dogs. Mostly because they did not know what they signed up for. If I owned a rowdy, untrained dog, I would blame myself for poor training, I would not blame the biology of the dog or the breeder.
@trumplostlol3007
@trumplostlol3007 3 жыл бұрын
@@poopzassshit The only thing you can blame modern dog owners is they tend to spoil their dogs and do not understand that many dog breeds simply do not fit into our modern society and many dog breeds are NOT pets, but working partners. Positive reinforcement simply may not work on all dogs, just like humans. You expect cowboys in the old days to give positive reinforcement to their Aussies all the time? LOL Or even if it works, it will be extremely time consuming. If you praise a kid whenever he/she achieves "something", he/she will very likely be spoiled and be unable to achieve what he/she can actually achieve. I almost NEVER receive any positive reinforcement from any of my teachers in my entire life. Yet I managed to get a PhD. Dogs and cats train their own kids by some form of punishment, not positive reinforcement. The goal is not to punish, but to let them understand what they have done wrong. All dogs and cats need to receive appropriate socialization with other trained dogs and cats at a very young age, or they will be any owner's problem. You can't expect every modern human to understand any dog at all. If you want a pet, get a cat, not a dog, unless you have tons of free time to deal with your untrained and unsocialized dog. I have both cats and dogs and I know exactly what I am talking about.

Yeah it’ll take awhile. I started by getting my puppies to chase the toy, then when they are amped up and running I would put it over there head getting them to jump for it, then over time throwing it and eventually they just start to like to catch stuff. You can’t always get them to like a frisbee, my collie likes to run things down and catch them but not usually with a frisbee. Find your doggies favorite toy, start slow, give praise often and make sure you say “good catch” and teach them to “get it” so they understand what you want of them.

We're working on this from a bit different angle since our aussie girl is very food motivated: We taught "catch it" with tossing treats (giving bonus for successful catches), and then worked on "catch it" with the Frisbee (BIG bonus and celebration with catch). She's 6 months old and we're at an arm's length distance. Best of luck to you as you work on it too!

3 month old border collie puppy here. She absolutely loves chasing things when they roll on the ground, like a ground roller frisbee or a ball rolling on the ground. Seems like she has trouble tracking things in the air because she is so young. Its encouraging to hear that others dont really see object catching happening until 6 month. Just keep playing and things seem to happen naturally. :)

I just got a flirt pole for my Aussie. It works on the "prey" drive I suppose, but it's a good game of chase for us! I love it for days I don't want to go to the park and just want to hang out in the backyard! As much as I would love to go out every day, it's just not possible with my schedule. So doing a quick session in the morning and afternoon has been working pretty well for us. When I'm gone, I've been hiding treats in Holle Roller Balls/ Bones and using scrap blanket paper to tie around and through it. It takes Koda about thirty minutes to pull the knots out and get the treats!

Get a dog walker if you can't fit a walk into your schedule. It's cruel to deny a walk. Social isolation. Lack of stimulation. Even if they don't meet others on a walk there are all the smells. Make 15 mins for a loose lead walk at the very least. Suggest you sit at home for 24 hrs with no TV or phone to get an idea of the deprivation level you are causing that dog on the days you don't walk it.
@sarkaztik3228
@sarkaztik3228 Жыл бұрын
@pamelahenley7406 This is completely false. I hate people on the internet who try to shame people and then pull out nonsense like "if you don't walk them every day it's comparable to going 24 hours without technology" (which is a moot point because people do this quite often for stress relief...) This comparison is just stupid. They're not comparable at all, and if you really think that, you're quite uneducated about dogs. Christ, there are ways to stimulate a dog besides walking. So VERY many. There are days where a walk is not possible (unless you insinuate going out into a storm is necessary). There are SO many alternatives to walking when those days happen. Your dog is NOT suffering because they didn't get a 15 minute walk in on a single day of the week, so long as you make it up by keeping them stimulated, the dog really does not care. Also, she said nothing about never walking her dog, she said there are days where she doesn't feel like going. You know, like a typical human being that has a demanding fulltime job would feel? It happens to literally anyone who has a job. Just stop spreading misinformation.

My parents have 3 Border Collies. I would really really recommend you to think about getting one very long. My mom goes to agility training 1 time a week + a little agility training in the garden 2-3 times a week + tournaments on the weekend (that was of course before the Lockdowns in my country) + 2 walks a day that take around 3 hourss combined. The dogs are still hyper. Petting doesn't help, but tricks do. Border Collies can be even more crazy than aussies. So as much as I love the dogs I grew up with (the oldest one is now 14 and such a cute deaf grandma) I would never buy a Border Collie unless I have very very much time in my everyday life. What I got is a very cute little stray from Romania and she is the sweetest thing. She can go crazy with her Border Friends but she is way calmer and doesn't need that much input.

Another great video! For my 11 mo, her "stir crazy" is cumulative. She can go a whole day or maybe even two or three (especially during winter storms) without really exercising, but I better plan on making up for it later! Our routine is usually up early, and she goes to work with me every day (I drive a truck for a living). She doesn't get much exercise at work although I DO get her outside even for a few minutes, every chance we get, and she always has new sights, smells and sounds to check out. Her "job" at work is usually just to help me run a tight ship and to keep an eye out for elk, deer and other obstacles on our journeys. BUT, most every day after work, it's an hour on the beach with the chuckit stick and/or frisbees (have you tried Frankie with multiple frisbees at the same time yet?), and often we get to spend some time with some of her doggy buddies too. She's pretty much grown up with her best friend Barley, and even 15 minutes of chasing each other around and rough play is far better than nothing. Weekends, if the weather is nice, looks a lot like your four hour tour. Hiking, frisbee, tennis balls, wrestle with dogs, more hiking.

If the weather is bad…We play fetch in the house! All of my dogs… Six Aussies so far… have been up for exercise when I’m up for exercise. The rest of the time they are chilling. I found that those puzzles work for about a nanosecond. Aussies are too smart. They find the treats so fast that the puzzle is worthless. So playing fetch in the house, hiding treats, is only something I have to do if I want to. The rest of the time they sleep. So when I hear people talking about having to spend hours exercising or stimulating their Aussies, I’m befuddled. They are perfectly capable of stimulating themselves LOL my current dog, plays by himself, throws the ball by himself, buries his toys by himself, explores on his own, and every once in a while he will try to dig his way to China.p.s. If you have something for him to eat that he was not interested in, put it in your mouth and get it wet with your saliva first. He will be thrilled to eat that. And if you go to the dog park, my mini wants to go in with the big dogs! He is smarter than they are. He is faster than they are.

I'm glad to see your video. I am contemplating rescuing a young Aussie, but, after seeing this, I'm concerned that I won't have 4 hours a day to keep her exercised. I need to rethink it. Thank you.

I live on a farm and yesterday, was shearing day for our sheep. 2 sheep escaped the pen and we were chasing them all around the fields. Man was I wishing I had a trained herding dog then! I have a Australian cattle dog, Australian shepherd, pit, boxer mix and he helps a bit but the boxer is his predominant trait not much herding ability. I’m definitely planning on a pure bred cattle dog or shepherd sometime soon.

My prettyminiaussie_juliette is my best friend! You inspired me to start playing with her more. We walk everyday and go swimming. I've always thought she needed a buddy to play with so I've been searching for a rescue dog but I live on Grand Manan Island NB in the Bay of Fundy. Or another mini aussie. But I've recently did a huge renovation and i got a brilliant idea for lots of scrap wood for an obstacle course! I just need someone to build it....can't wait it will be fun for both of us! She's 31 lbs and all muscle but tired of being told she's overweight. I'll keep you posted. 😊

During a recent training session a dog trainer told me that my dog (she's something like a border collie x gsd mix) is about to develop a ball/frisbee addiction. Have you ever heard of that or considered that Frankie could get addicted as well?
@FrankieToTheMoon
@FrankieToTheMoon 3 жыл бұрын
Everything comes in moderation. He loves his frisbee, and I love pasta. Do I have it everyday? No. Does he play everyday? Nope. Limitations are what help us control our “addictions”. If he had his frisbee out every day all day long, then it might be a problem. But he is only allowed it when I take it out.

My English cocker is completely obsessed with tennis balls although I’m not sure if it can really be classed as an addiction. If I have a tennis ball nothing else matters, he just stares dead into my eyes as he walks in focused heel waiting for the next throw. He clearly loves it so I would never deprive him of it entirely, and it’s a very convenient way to get a lot of exercise in a short time, but I have stepped down to 3 ball sessions per week. It can’t be healthy for a dog’s mind to be so single-tracked, plus he will seemingly run to the point of exhaustion without noticing, which is great but not every single day. My dog trainer told me that you need to let your dog choose their training reward, maybe use the ball obsession to your advantage?

They reallyy need a lot of exercise. But in getting older. I didn't pick out mine he was out roaming and starving to death So I took him in. I hate that I don't have the energy to do more I play fetch with him but he gets bored with it. But at least he's healthy and not starving for food any more,,,,

Aussies are the bestiest. And to be honest they get a bad reputation for being unmanageable but in my experience it is almost the opposite, they are so smart that as long as you are calm and consistent and don;e let them trick you they are incredibly easy to manage....
