It also contains hydrogenated tallow acid. Kermit has clearly picked up on this! Also, I can't believe it took me like 3 years to re-watch this and notice she asked this question. I don't think you're quite right, tho. You're not entirely off, but sodium tallowate is chemically very different from beef tallow. It does not smell like beef. The saponification alters the substance dramatically. BUT: Kermit likely IS attracted to an animalistic component in the soap. The fragrance profile of Irish spring includes bergamot and flowery notes........ aaaand as a basenote: MUSK! I'm 99% sure Kermit likes the musk and that it's not the sodium tallowate.

That's so funny to me, because my godparents stayed with us with their dog once, and asked my mom if she had any soap for the guest bathroom. My mom said "weird, I thought I left a bar of soap there for you" and immediately my godmother says "oh, it must have been Dove, Pollo eats Dove soap." Pollo was a big dog, with an indestructible stomach I guess, so he was fine, but clearly his tastes are different than Kermet's! He wouldn't eat any other soap, just Dove.

I think its because he's rubbing his scent / marking territory. Dogs do it in different ways, most would be rolling around on the ground, peeing or mating in the area. I think Kermit rubs on Irish Spring the most is because it has the strongest scent that he has to get rid of to prove it is his. Basically he is the alpha Male or considers himself one and has to prove it

Irish Spring has Sodium Tallowate in it, which is animal fat. It's actually the main ingredient. He can smell the dead animal fat, so you're right, that's why he's trying to rub on it like he does on dead stuff, because the soap is made of dead stuff. "Sodium tallowate is a true soap created when the fatty acid from animal tissue is combined with some type of lye, usually sodium hydroxide. The resulting soap is often used as an ingredient in skin cleanser."

If a dog likes a smell, they just want it all over them. Idk the science behind it, but I'm thinking he must just like it and wanna smell like it. Maybe try to bathe him in it once in a while as a treat and see if he runs around the house all happy (I say once on a while because human soaps aren't made for dogs fur and skin-it can be too drying) PS. I've been thinking about this video constantly over the last couple weeks. My foster dog has recently become obsessed with soap. I recently got a new kind of bar soap, and he has begun terrorizing me for anything that's ever touched a single scent particle of it. (It's Zote soap, bright pink and square, so he looks like he's trying to join Fight Club every time he manages to get it.)
