My Dogs Try Brain Games to See Who Is Smarter
I tested my dogs’ intelligence using a few brain games they love. These games are a great way to boost their brain function and keep them entertained at the same time. To test them fairly we had to keep them separately in different rooms. Tiger found it a bit difficult to stay with his dad in a different room, so you can hear his tantrum in the video. He needs to work on his patience more, but we’ll get there eventually.

Hard to say because one has life experience and one is usually deemed the smarter breed and that one seems to have the better nose. Retreat was a real smart figuring things up on the go but shepherd's definitely will when they learn how the world around them works.

Hilarious how Tiger is smarter at removing the lids, but Leo wins by grabbing the treats! Also, Tiger's ears are so adorable.

sweet, purposeful, greedy ... tiger is a lot .... but not really smart. he doesn't show any learning curve. due to his energy and his play instinct he removes all lids but without help he doesn't get any reward. leo is extremely passive but has learned very quickly that as soon as tiger removes a lid, there is something to get there. ... like in real life ... "thats not fair" ... some do the job, others collect the wages.

@@ipshot with all the idiots running around in the world, one should really ask whether humans are really the most intelligent creatures on earth... isn't it man who has bred the shepherd dog sick? It's not about race (and not about age either), but about the specific case. one dog does all the work by "untypical" dog behaviour (smelling,biting,scratching) the other one collects all the rewards ... and is so lazy that he doesn't even have to get up ;) ... at the end he did it very fast > "experience-based knowledge"

You are so wrong :) - slightly more experienced, but definitely not smarter. Also the reward for them is different. In the last one Tiger was more interested in the moving part that he lifted than on the stuff underneath it. For Tiger the play is bigger reward than to Leo and it could be bigger than treats - depending how he will be thought. With more active play the intelligence will get him to the levels the Leo will never reach.

I think Leo pretty conclusively won that one. "Work smarter, not harder" is one way to put it but "old age and treachery will always beat youth and exuberance" is more accurate.

Tiger won the last game. He figured out he could play with the covers like toys and have greater longer lasting enjoyment from toys than treats. This suggests a play-oriented dog over a food-oriented dog, and that a tennis ball will be a superior training tool over treats.

I had a ball once for my GSD. You dropped the treat in the top, and the dog would have to roll the ball around to try get it to come out the other side, as it bounced around the inside channels like a maze. Good stimulation for the brain, as GSD's need lots of physical and mental stimulation or they begin to find ways to amuse themselves, which is usually destructive in nature.
