Kahlo’s unique personal style blended aspects of German-Mexican heritage with a carefully crafted sartorial persona. These images are immortalized in countless self-portraits, but her wardrobe was locked away until 2004. Hear how its recent unveiling has allowed for a more intimate exploration of how she constructed a distinctive look that continues to inspire us today.

I saw the film in a restored theater on Bainbridge Island then visited an exhibition in Seattle the next day. Later that night I read her biography. I've never been quite the same.

Funny considering Frida couldn't stand the flower headdress, the Mexican dress of the low class, the jewelery, none of it. She hated it. She only dressed that way for her husband. Frida liked to dress as a man and keep her hair short. She hasn't been gone that long. How people whom knew her could allow these fools to misrepresent her is beyond me.

There is sufficient clarity in this presentation. Insightful, there is tasteful humour with pertinent references. Well thought out. Do appreciate the style theme in relation to her history and suffering. Unique yet identifiable in that unconscious.

Many thanks for uploading this captivating presentation. Many thanks to Ms. Finamore. I have watched this video for at last three times, because I have always been fascinated by Frida Kahlo. I didn´t want to comment actually, but since we are listening to this presentation, which focuses a great part on clothes, design and fashion, I thought it is worth mentioning that the designer Lena Hoschek (mentioned at 4:13) is Austrian, not German. She was born in Graz, Austria.

I'm pretty sure, if not absolutely positive that Madonna talked about Frida since she began her career...I'm sure nobody would want to give Madonna credit for this, but she was the most famous woman on earth for 20+ years (still is if you ask me) and if you follow the trail, Madonna works with EVERY one of those Fashion designers, and I'm sure made most of this revival possible.

I think the speaker did not present Frida kahlo as she would have wanted. They should have had a Hispanic- American, to truly speak. Frida had so many portraits of her self and others portraits that should have been truly expressed. Frida was an iconic person. Someone who deserved to have her name and portraits pronounced properly. Her life to many is an example, she was before her times.

@Tomás she changed the spelling of her name from the German spelling 'Frieda' during the rise of Nazim in attempt to de-emphasise her german heritage, she from then on used the spelling 'frida' much more frequently

Her mother was of Spanish and Mexican Indian Descent & her father was Hungarian & Jewish Descent.. Frida Kahlo Was Absolutely Mexican In Every Way & Right. From the Blood In Her Veins, To The Very Land She Was Created And Birthed In. Do Your Research Before Speaking. If you know anything of Frida is that she was proud of her background, culture and roots. People always want to take everything and everyone who is great, to try and white wash the hell out of them. Viva La Vida. Viva La Frida.
