Just now stumbled across this video, amazing setup you got! I am a co-engineer for a LPFM station in Ohio and we are about to install a 50w GMRS repeater on our tower and we have the SAGE model 3644. Would I be able to rebroadcast the audio on our system? I’d love to discuss further if you’re able to help out!!
@EvanVanderStoepАй бұрын
Yes, you can use the SAGE for that but I would route the audio through your repeater controller so you can cut it off remotely. Also, I would try to get it up so the EAS tones don't get rebroadcasted, just the message. This is because you don't want to risk spur transmissions or cross talk with other equipment from the RF. I used the relay options on the sage to trigger the PTT after the tones. More detail is in the manual.

Nice setup. One of our amateurs has a similar setup but doesn't use it anymore. One question though. Doesn't this violate the "no broadcast" rule by the FCC?
@EvanVanderStoep4 жыл бұрын
I'm broadcasting it on amateur radio frequencies, there is no receivers on there. So, therefore, it's not illegal. it would, however, be illegal to broadcast these EAS tones over NOAA, FM Commercial Broadcast, and TV bands. None of which I am doing!
@PatrickDickey527614 жыл бұрын
@@EvanVanderStoep Never mind. I was thinking about 97.111 and 97.113, but in looking for the information, I found a pdf file where the FCC does allow informational bulletins, as long as they're directed towards amateur operators and not the general public. I stand corrected.

How did you get no interference on your weather radio from the sage?

When you conduct this test, does the endec transmit the message " This is a test. Had it been a real emergency, etc"?

Yes.

Do you need a license to send out alerts not on NOAA but amateur radio
@EvanVanderStoep3 жыл бұрын
Amateur radio requires a license though I don't recommend broadcasting tones as that is illegal depending on the frequency.

So other than a ham license and money to buy this stuff do I have additional requirements? I'm looking getting a ham license and I also would like to use the eas endec to alert local repeaters.
@EvanVanderStoep4 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend you just go with a Reecom weather radio connected to a radio on the repeater frequency. Its cheap and easy and will not broadcast the EAS tones, only the audio message. I highly recommend you know EXACTILY what your doing before you do it because if done wrong, it could result in an EAS activation! Please also only do this on repeater you own or have the rights to.
@chanm94574 жыл бұрын
Is the sage EAS endec still available or is that what you mean by cheaper? I understand I still need the radio.

Pretty neat, I was going to setup something similar that broadcasted to my discord server (like you did), and activated stuff on a NOAA live stream. My plans have been put on hold since I have learned that my ENDEC is completely trashed. The board inside has almost every possible issue you can imagine. Where did you get your ENDECs from? They are pretty much no longer existant on eBay anymore.

I work at commercial TV tower sites where we have our Amateur Radio Repeaters. I have contact with the station's main engineer. He told me he had 2 sage units so I went and picked them up!

Is it legal to do this and what class ham license do I need? Also can just anyone do it?
@EvanVanderStoep4 жыл бұрын
Yes, its legal but you should never broadcast valid EAS tones on AM/FM/NOAA /TV Commercial broadcast frequency because that could result in a false activation. I also highly recommend you just go with a Reecom weather radio connected to a radio on the repeater frequency. I highly recommend you know EXACTILY what your doing before you do it because if done wrong, it could result in an EAS activation!
