Ye because the piston rings over heat and over expand creating a better seal and thous higher compression but then they obliterate from the excess heat and friction lol. Steve could try putting a tea spoon of engine oil down into the suspect cylinder to see if it helps compression, if it does it means it's your rings, but if not it is the valves (could be from valve float). Either way there is enough second hand engine parts floating around on Ebay you could just hone the damaged cylinder wall depending of severity and then replace the piston rings. If it is a valve just replace it and then lap the valve.

dude.....the automotive industries are here for over 100 years....what is there more to know about what could go wrong and bad......its terrible how they made them now days......and thats it... sorry mate for your situation....its just sad!!!! my advice is....if you want a track car...build it from scratch....and build it hardcore strong old school....not this plastic coca cola bottle car....best of luck!

100% pull the engine out and let us see whats failed. I have 140 psi in cylinder 1 & 4 but 120 psi in 2 and 3 so will be interesting to see what failed already on yours and what is likely to fail on mine. Keep up the good videos 👌

Looks like piston rings have gone putting pressure into the crank case blowing the oil out . Would love to see a strip down to confirm the issues . Hope you can get it sorted soon all the best mate love all your video's

My money is on bore wash on cylinder 1. All plugs are sooty which is overfueling. Maybe worth talking with your tuner to check the fueling on the map as I'd hate for you to see another engine go pop.

Why don't you bore scope to check damage, you'll be able to see on the camera the bore and the top of the piston

Definitely rings over issues with the H.Gasket, might be worth picking up one of those cheap Endoscopes & having a look down the bore, see if there is any scoring of the cylinder, prior to you taking it apart. Great video though Steve, love your no nonsense & it is what it is methods 👍🏼

you were pushing the engine beyond its limits not surprised it blew up, the internals need modifying crank, pistons etc if you want to race it, that's what race engines are for.

There are plenty ST's running low 300 BHP dedicated for track use with stock bottom end and head... Something just gave and that's unlucky. Near me there is a dude with a 320BHP ST with gutted interior that he tracks atleast twice a month and the only mod he did to the internals is a pumaspeed block mod to prevent the ovaling of the cylinder bores and head gasket failure. Only real issue he had in 3 years of the car being stage3 is a broken 4th gear

Take a look with a bore scope first to see if there's any visible damage. Retorque the head and see if that improves the compression a bit.

A friend of mine has the same specced fiesta st as i do, same tune, same upgrades. After 2 laps on the ring he is hitting 105 degrees while i am hardly hitting 95. Tried everything even swapping parts between cars. Now he is running bigger radiator and oil cooler and is getting decent temps. Strange how 2 identical cars can get so different temps. It's like u say, it's a bit of luck with these engines. Gonna put shims in mine to be sure when i change out the timing belt. And please make some videos of you investigating the engine. U always make it understandable for a lot of people!

Hey man, grab a Cobb access port and have Adam Tuned do your tuning. He is really good and he knows the S280 turbo and the the engine's limits. We've seen this in the states a lot. I bet you deformed the cylinder wall right at the thin spot between cylinders. Can't wait for the new setup.

mine thinks there's a hole in the piston in cylinder one. ring lands maybe, ruined a valve potentially, but I think that piston melted...

Gutting mate! when you reinstall look to get some EGT's in the manifold. swagelock presure tappings with some K type thermocouples. It may have just been on the limit. Big time gain on track, awesome.

I heard recent stories of the oil pump screen in the bottom of the engine on the newer ford engines are faulty and causing them to destroy the whole engine

I would say it your piston ring on one piston, hopefully you can do some of the work your self and maybe some mods to the engine, like harden vales and better piston too, good luck on your fix

So gutted for you Steve! 😟 I blew my Engine at Combe last year. No Compression on Cylinder 1 and it turned out to be a snapped inlet Camshaft between the lobes of Cylinders 1 & 2. On your Engine it’s more than likely damaged rings on Cylinder 1 but a video into diagnosing the root cause on a tear down will certainly be interesting. Onwards and upwards my friend. Got a fully built engine in mine now with an even better spec. Head up mate you’ll be back on circuit in no time! 👍

Sorry about the engine 😞 If I had to guess I would be a headgasket/ cylinder head went and washed the lubricantion out of Cylinder 1 and then took out the piston ring which tore up the block. Would love to see a postmortem of the engine. Please check the oils as if there is metallic parts the turbo will need to be cleaned or you will be here again.

Oil starvation will be the cause. Due to the extra power and grip from the diff its causing the oil to go to one side of the sump in the corners. For track use make sure you have a oil pressure gauge. I bet its spun a shell and caused ring damage.

Sucks to hear this mate I had the same happen to me turned out i burnt a hole in the Zylinder of piston 4 Bad thing is the engine was completely fine but you can’t buy new Pistons at your ford dealership I ended up buying a used piston and put that in the car was running fine for 4-5 months and now my head gasket started to leak water into Zylinder 1 Now i am in the process of replacing the engine for a new one and most likely will rebuild the old one with forged pistons and stuff I mean you can see it as a glas half full thing Atleast it Looks like you can save the engine Anyway good luck mate and keep it up Love the videos about the fiesta since no one goes as much into detail as you do 👍👍

Id say maybe ring landings cracked Or the cylinder bore can u get a bore scope an have a look inside the cylinder see if u got any scoring down sides Or a hole in the piston Sad to hear the bad news hopefully see u build it back stronger than ever Maybe worth stripping first see if it can be saved Could build it with forged internals if block is reusable

Sorry about the blown engine fella. Ford don't give torque setting for the big ends on these sigma engines but some tuners do rebuild these. Might be worth rebuilding and forging it.

A lad I work with his st started to misfire and smoke and showed no compression on cylinder 1 and found the skirt on the piston has broken and the liner was also oval he fitted a new engine to his with a block mod

i think the piston rings and pistons on these engines are more prone to failure than anything else, if im not mistaken the rods are forged from factory

I think you first cracked a sleeve (overheating) then the ovaled out Cylinder allowed the combustion to push on the side of the piston and therefore it blew off the lower portion of the piston (happened to mine)

Shims, bigger radiator, oil cooler, liners,... not a closed deck cause they seem to have problems with heat building up cause the engines cooling wasn't designed for closed deck.

Take the rocker cover off and check all the valves are working as they should. If you've burnt out a valve or bent an inlet you'd have no compression

Welcome to the (sad) club of blown engines... I feel your pain... Mine's been sitting at home with a blown cylinder as well, exactly the same as your car (oil coming out of ITG filter, white smoke on track, 0 compression on cyl. 3 but the others are fine, etc...) I will be pulling the engine out as well in a few weeks hopefully. Would be interesting to see what your findings are and I'll let you know what caused mine to blow.
