I appreciate you talking about representation in the equestrian sport. It's so so difficult to be a rider of color surrounded by white riders and white-only representation. I left the sport for five years because I didn't feel like I belonged and it was just too hard. I came back a couple years ago and connecting with BIPOC riders has changed my life. Thank you for using your platform to connect me with them!

Erin Oquindo dude i can’t even imagine. it’s ridiculous. its 2020 ffs & im so over the supremacy & elitism. i hope things get better soon because it should go without saying that no one deserves to feel that way💗

Yeah this is a problem I have faced too. It’s pretty discouraging when you’re a non-white person in a mostly white sport, not to mention if you live in a predominantly white area. I’ve met maybe 3 riders of color in my entire riding career, and we barely have any representation. Honestly it’s nice to know that there are others out there. Also, what is BIPOC? I’ve never heard of it.
@MonumentToSin

I agree. I'm mixed so I haven't faced a lot of opposition in the industry, but I've seen how uncomfortable some of our black riders are when they go to big shows and all the major competitors and barns are white-majority. Plus, a lot of the older people in the industry make rude and insensitive comments.
@erinoquindo8211

@@symequine496 Exactly! My experience is very similar to yours. BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, and other People Of Color! It's kind of new but in general I think It's meant to highlight the unique experiences of black and indigenous folks as part of the larger term POC :)

@@MonumentToSin Right! I think people who are part of that majority can't exactly understand what it's like to feel that tension in a visual sense, i.e. the discomfort when you're surrounded by people who look like each other but not you. I'm mixed too which does add an interesting layer for sure. Feel you here!

I agree with what you say about the horse people looking down their noses at the ones without a pile of money. I've worked at barns to pay my way and was treated like some kind of servant. The rich kids said they wouldn't dare muck a stall. That's why we have you they say. Also, that dynamite figure you have makes all of those breeches look divine. And I love your little house. I want one. Lol. Thank you for the video. It was a good one. Waiting for the next one.

I had the same issue with Stable Wear, I wear a medium in the Smartpak Piper leggings and the Stable Wear I'm wearing an XL and they're honestly still too tight. I also think we'll see more inclusivity in the next coming campaigns for the big brands like Smartpak and Dover.

It's so nice that you're so inclusive of all equestrians, and that you bring awareness tho the problems in our community. I can really relate to this because im the only hispanic rider in my barn, and I'm also a tiny bit on the dark side, so its nice to see people being inclusive of all body types and ethnicities :)

Hey there. I’m always looking for new breeches and have a hard time spending the money on some of them. So seeing reviews like this helps out a lot. A brand that I have found that is not as expensive, is inclusive, and their breeches and riding tights are amazing and stretchy and you can move in, are Kerrits. This brand is great. And they feature equestrians of all shapes and sizes and colors. Would love to see more of your apparel videos, also if you like the kerrits brand.

I'm so glad that you feel like you can speak up! I studied representation of gender, race etc in visual culture as part of my degree. I actually ended up writing about the representation of equestrians in my dissertation (I focused on the wild west more so than modern day but the issues still stand). I'm sure everyone watching appreciated how much hard work went into those transitions! Navy is definitely my favourite colour for breeches, I have a pair that I live in but looking at the company now I see that their representation is quite poor too... this video has definitely made me think! Thank you and keep doing what you're doing x

Awesome Video Jill!! 🤗 ❤ Thank you Soo much for speaking out on the issue of equality! 👍 🙌 I myself have 2 OTTB"S which I use exclusively for trail riding. I am 55 yrs old and was never able to own my own horse until 13 years ago. But in my life time of being around horses I have noticed that being an equestrian comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, ethnicity and financial back grounds. From the richest to the poorest. It is all about the love of the animal. And no one should be made to feel less than another because of their ethnicity or their financial status!. Again..Thank You!! ps...Love your sense of Humor! 😂🤣

I live for Romfh breeches. They've been inclusive for all colors and body types for a while now, and it's really nice to see all different sizes and shapes advertised instead of just one specific body type that's very hard or impossible to attain for most people. They also hold up really well and are REALLY comfortable to wear/ride in. I really like the Champion and Sarafina lines. I also love the look of the Isabella line but am not sure I want the silicone grips in case they damage my saddle.

This was so needed. Both to be said and to be heard. I have been riding for 15 years now and I have not once have I heard an equestrian talk on the lack of diversity in our sport and it was so overdue. I’m a plus sized (6’ and size 12) equestrian and it would destroy my confidence when I would want to buy from a really popular brand and they wouldn’t have my size. I struggled with eating disorders the entire time I was competing largely because of being immersed in the short/thin culture in riding 24/7. It’s not an issue that gets talked about almost at all in riding, but it needs to be with the discrimination against plus size riders (still under the 20% rule) and non-white riders. Please keep speaking up and talking on these issues. You have an amazing platform and are doing amazing things with it. This is why I’ve been a Jill stan since 2013💕

I absolutely loved this video!!! I loved your heart felt message you put out there and felt it was needed! I agree that the stigma in the Equine world needs to change. I feel Equestrian brands need to be more diverse and open about making different sizes in their breeches instead of creating “cookie cutter breeches”. Also you look beautiful and should not be insecure about your small belly fat you mentioned in your video. I couldn’t even see it and everyone is built differently so don’t be ashamed with how you look! Embrace who you are and the skin God placed upon your back 💛💛💛!!! Love the career path you’re going in you’ll help change so many lives!!!

Thank you for speaking out about some of the issues, it’s really comforting. I realise how lucky I am to fit some of the stereotypes of the equestrian world but I’m also a poorer equestrian and growing up around people who could afford massive amounts of the ‘most expensive’ was disheartening. It’s better financially for me now but I remember back then being put off by not fulfilling the perfect rich girl mould that was shown so often in equestrian advertising.

I am a plus size rider. I can be a size 36-40 depending on the brand. The ONLY equestrian brand that I have found that are reasonably priced and 80% of the time have my size is Kerrits. I have several pairs of leggings from them and really love them. I would not say that their advertising is inclusive but there sizing is. Love the video and love that you are willing to talk about this issues. For most of my riding career I have been told that I shouldn't ride. I understand I am a bigger girl hence why I ride bigger horses! My Clyde is 17.2hh and my Belgian is 18hh. I ride draft horses, I make sure they are in shape so they can carry my weight. I love them both so much and would never do anything to hurt them!

Thank you so much for speaking out about diversity in equestrian marketing! About a year ago a friend and I tried to speak out about this to one brand who we felt was a bad case of not showing enough diversity similar to the one you talk about in the video; but they decided to attack my friend and I and delete the things we had said, and delete anything that people who supported our opinion about being more inclusive and it was overall a really deafening and deprecating situation after we were just trying to help other people feel more accepted :( not only did the own company handle the situation poorly but we then received hateful words and even death threats from other people who had seen the situation and when the company was notified about these happenings they never said anything or tried to say that that was wrong. Overall very disappointed from the company to say the least! 😅 but conclusion is thank you lol, it’s so appreciated to see a larger figure speaking up for everyone!

Thank you so much for using your voice to speak up about the lack of ethnic diversity in the equestrian world issue. I rode horses for 5 years, (I’m 15) and suddenly had to stop because we couldn’t keep up with the prices, as much as it broke my heart not to ride and be around horses, I was somewhat relieved. I’m mixed, my moms white and my dad is black. And because of that I was looked at differently, I put in extra work around the barn and I still couldn’t get the same opportunities as someone who was riding for 2 years. Not because of my skill level, because fellow riders had told me I was an excellent rider and not to be egotistical or anything, I’d say I was pretty good. But it just sucks that you’re not included based on the way you looked. The people there never were outright racist towards me, but you were still excluded if that makes sense. Anyways I just wanted to say thank you Jill and I love your videos

Thank you for speaking about representation in the horse industry. There really are so few of us and it doesn't help that it has been made an exclusive sport with a paywall. It was also kind of goofy when SmartPak pt out that statement about supporting riders of color when 6/10 of the pictures featured were white people. Like they really couldn't even bother to find actual riders of color. It was actually a spot on representation of the industry lmao.

my go to is always Kerrits, they last forever and are so comfy (also, did I mention affordable?). More seriously, I’ve noticed a lot of under representation by Tredstep in terms of body representation/fit. I’m easily street size (size 8/medium/28 in most breeches), but I cannot, for the life of me, fit into Tredsteps. They’re so small, and not made for people with any amount of body, which is endlessly frustrating because their breeches are GORGEOUS. It’s almost like they want to make sure that no one outside of their ‘ideal’ equestrian image rides in their brand. Maybe they’ve changed since the last time I tried a pair, but I kinda doubt it.

Does anyone know where to find affordable long-inseam breeches? In jeans I wear a 35" inseam, so I don't think most "tall" 32-inch inseam breeches are going to cut it. I have a pair of secondhand Kerrits that cut the circulation off at my calves because the ankle sits so high up on my leg.

thank you for talking about the lack of inclusivity 🥺 I'm a bigger person and I've never shown just because I feel too "fat" and would rather not show than tuck in my shirt

i fully agree with your opinion! Flexars is an amazing brand for inclusion and how they approach their advertising it is small British based company and their ethics are really amazing and hopefully will be adopted my larger companies. their leggings are amazingly comfy and good quality as well.

Manhattan Saddlery also runs super small. I ordered a pair online - got a small which is the size that fits me for every other brand I've tried. Tried them on, and they wouldn't even go past my thighs lol. Cost almost $200 too..so depressing haha.

The same thing happens to me! I don't know how it happens, but I have a couple breaches that rub me soo bad! I also swear I don't grip with my knee, so I just don't get it!

its tight & actually short so not hard, but I usually put my breeches on, then roll them down, flatten my shirt & flip them up!

It's so weird to see your face and not just listen to your podcast in my car on the way to the barn, ha! Also I totally didn't need to find even more breeches I want to add to my hoard.
