My top essential piece of Koehn fishing equipment is this KZbin channel

I completely agree that a pink hoochie is an essential lure not just for kokanee but for salmon and trout as well. A pink squid spinner is my best trolling lure by far for trout/kokanee

Agreed. Pink hootchies have been the ticket to more trout in my kayak lately.

I will say having a fish finder was a game changer. Even a cheaper one will get the job done, but like Tyler said, get used to it, play with the settings, become familiar with it. I went from having 3-5 fish 6 hour days to limiting out in like three hours.

Chrome shark weights or ball trolls. Most important to me though is my bead and blade boxes. I can produce as many of the hot lures that I need on any given trip. If you fish any lakes where tackle isn’t readily available, this is a must.

Excellent timing! I was just getting ready to start my gear study/purchase.

Something I found really helpful for trolling on the tandem is a GPS bicycle computer which works in addition to the GPS fish finder so that both the captain and stoker (tandem bike terminology) know the trolling speed. An added benefit is I get all of the trip summary info like total mileage, average speed, route map, etc. Also a little plastic urinal from the drug store has come in handy a time or two.

What I’ve found to be essential is having a power source that allows me to constantly familiarize myself (i.e. play) with my Helix indoors. Sure, learning on the water happens, but I’ve learned a lot more in the comfort of my living room. Consequently, my ice shuttle never goes into storage.

bow mount remote control trolling motor, long handle net, slightly heavier rod to run 5-6oz weights when the fish are deep, fish finder/fish hawk, a bit of local knowledge of the water way you are fishing. ask people at the boat launch and they will tell you what to do and where to go, especially if your new.

All similar except my works almost everywhere lure is the macks chartreuse and pink wedding ring with pink blade. If all else fails, it will work. Otherwise I'm running Paulina Peak wiggle hootchies or spinners behind the performance series dodgers

I start with “sunrise” micro hoochies as my go-to. I guess another essential gear for me is just patience. Never going to catch, but to learn and try my best. Limits quickly follow and skunk days appear much less

I have been blessed to be able to afford the Garmin Live Scope sonar. I have found it invaluable for "watching" my underwater rigs, or more appropriately, how the fish are reacting to my underwater rigs! It quickly lets you know if what you are offering is what they want to take, or, also if they are in an active/inactive mindset. I typically use a down rigger, and I cannot tell you how many times I've had a fish on and would not have known it but for the LS! Seems some fish just like to go for the ride and don't bother putting up any resistance?

With my motorized boat, the bow mount electric motor is essential. Bait with tuna scent is also on my list.

I must be the exception. I have never had much luck with silicone hoochies of any color. I've almost always done better with inline spinners and different flies. Maybe it's just my reservoir

Loved your video on trolling depth w/ snap weights. Would you expect similar lb braid to run a lot deeper due to lower resistance and diameter?

Yes.

Have you done a video on your fish finder settings? I also run a helix 7 and I just feel a little disappointed in its ability to locate fish compared to an older model of humminbird that I had. I think my settings might be a little off.

I enjoy all the tips you add to each video but I do have a serious question at Lake Merwin I have twice had a no fish caught day and while I at first thought it may have been a problem on my end this last trip confirmed what's going on both days when pulling the boat out at the launch I had a local say hey I only got one all day but then did you notice they raised or lowered the water level yesterday ? so seeing fish on the scope and trying every color combo I carry still no strikes but the fish are clearly there on the fish finder. any answers to this and has it ever happened to you ? Thanks From Hank the Tank

Not in the near future. 95% of most Kokanee fisheries are less than 80’ deep
