Filipino here too - my immigrant parents weren't able to attain nice timepieces for themselves. I was doing well enough a few years ago that I was able to give them their own Cartier and Rolex pieces as a thank you for their sacrifices to ensure I have a better future in the US. Then I got myself in the rabbit hole of watch collecting with VC, Rolex, IWC, Zenith, JLC, etc - got to the point I was invited to Watches and Wonders this year

Personally, I only use my smartwatch in the gym and wear my analog watches out and about in my everyday life. I have another friend who wears two watches, one on each wrist.

I solved this issue by getting a WHOOP. I wear it on my bicep/ wrist all day except for when I’m showering. This way i can wear my actual watches and track sleep, workout and recovery metrics. It’s an expensive solution but perfect for what I personally wanted.

Might be the minority here but I consider this the downfall of a content creator that I’ve followed for years in terms of functionality meeting aesthetics. Hear me out for some examples. The card case somehow expanding into a full blown wallet: who is carrying more cards these days? If anything, Apple Pay and digital keys have made me carry less cards and practically no cash (other than the $20 I shove in for emergencies). The weird Batman belt is ugly and I don’t know what more functionality you’re getting here compared to a nice leather belt. The Garmin here is probably the ugliest piece of clunky black technology I’ve seen in terms of smartwatches. I get that this was an ad, but I would rather wear an Apple Watch or an Oura or a Whoop or something. The badge holder especially for a singular badge that seems more like a keycard than an ID: just keep it in your back pocket like I used to do when I had one of those. These are ugly choices and I would argue the opposite of the “minimalistic” and clean aesthetic that this channel has been famous for.

Love the channels that promote a Minimalist lifestyle with “ sustainability “ yet you get the newest iPhone every year. Let’s see! You had the 13 Mini 14 Pro (cause of the battery life) and now the 15 Pro in the Hot Dot Natural Titanium. Bet any amount of money you sold your phone privately vs a trade in or using the recycling program for the extra cash. Not trolling. But get rid of the minimalist title and be real. You go with the minimal identity because the sh*t looks cool clean lines. Don’t include minimal. It’s a minimal look with a more material lifestyle.
