Jenn, it is great to see your videos. I have been going back through your Japanese videos too. They are really fun. Hsinchu is a city that doesn't get a lot of attention, but it is a great place. Hakka is a different language. My wife is from Miaoli county and is Hakka. I know when my family switches to Hakka because they start talking through their nose. Miaoli has a lot of things to see and do. You should go to SanYi and explore there. There is a beef noodle shop there that is really famous and delicious.

Miaoli Daisy festival is quite interesting. I've once went there. I think it's very relaxing. If you like Ikea, there is also a tiny branch in ChuPei, really small one. Although HsinChu is famous for being boring, there is some lantern exhibitions after sunset in downtown in HsinChu moat park since this week which worth visiting. There also will be new year's Eve celebration in Taipei and ChuPei. And then Chinese new year on Feb/12 next year. Hope you enjoy living in Taiwan and love your videos.

It's so nice see life going on and people going out, bars open and stuff. Here in Europe we're in various stages of lockdowns depending on the country and I haven't been to a bar like in more than half a year or smt like that :( I'm loving exploring Taiwan with you, looks like a great country! Btw, when will you be doing an apartment tour? *wink wink* Kisses and love

Hakka is a different language, kind of like how French and Spanish both descend from Latin but are now different, same relationship between Mandarin, Hakka, Minnan/Taiwanese, Cantonese etc. Miaoli and Hsinchu area is the largest concentration of Hakka people, though like all languages other than Mandarin in Taiwan it has been dying out in the younger generation. Historical reasons as to why are kind of sad
@LayersOfJenn

Ohhhh okay!! I didn’t realize it’s different. Thank you for the information. And I know there is a lot of Hakka people here in Hsinchu and Miaoli. I want to go to the mountains around here and film something once I gather enough information ~

Jenn is right, Hakka is a dialect, origins from Guangdong province in China. Its not an official language, only commonly used in certain areas.

Hakka is not a different language because it has the exact same grammatical and syntax structure as Mandarin. The only difference is how the words are pronounced. The fact that they sound totally different doesn't mean they are different languages. Hakka is a different dialect but not a different language.

@@Luther84695 a language is a dialect with an army and a navy. Portuguese and Spanish are more alike and diverged more recently than many dialects of Chinese, many of which are no longer mutually intelligible. Only one thing they still share is a common writing system, due to the semantic property of Chinese characters.

The flower field is so beautiful 😍 For the older generation, dialect is their main language. (Not sure about the rest) My grandmother only speaks in dialect but can understand mandarin and English. . (My nieces and nephews don't really speak in dialect. They can only reply her Yes or No question. Every time, I feel so funny 😂 looking at their conversations) She will only reply in dialect and her reasoning is that her tongue has hardened.

I'm Hakka. Hakka language is way different from Mandarin. There are 4 different Hakka accents speaking in Taiwan, like the Hakka people in Miaoli speak 四縣 , and the Hakka people in Hsinchu speak 海陸. Can they communicate each other? yes or no.

I wouldn't know what flavor to expect from blue ramen since I see that and think of artificially flavored "blue raspberry" foods in the U.S. 😅 I also carry huge bags with too much stuff from the store because, how else am I supposed to get stuff home? 😂 I should get that little cart think from Ikea.
@jackliang6907

The blue ramen in this store is made with the juice of butterfly pea flowers in the soup, which is different from the blue spirulina used in Japanese stores. Butterfly pea flowers are rich in anthocyanins which are natural pigment ingredients . Although the soaked water itself has no taste, the anthocyanins will change color with the pH value. At first, they will appear blue in alkaline. If you add a little acidic lemon juice, it will become PH neutral and appear purple. If more lemon is added, it will become red under high acidic pH. So squeezing the lemon out of the noodles will change the color of the soup and bring another surprise to the guests. It also makes this bowl of ramen show a different sour taste.
