As a fellow NatSci graduate who has just finished a PGCE (also at Cambridge) this year, it’s fantastic to hear that you are coming into the profession! I’d really encourage you to get as much experience in schools as possible, it’s so helpful for your application and to confirm it’s the best option for you :) Also do look thoroughly into the different options available for teacher training, I originally though Teach First was the “best” option but actually upon looking into it I realised that they have a particularly low success rate at actually getting people into teaching long-term, put you in particularly challenging schools, and financially pay much less than PGCE programs - just something to bear in mind! Schools-based and university-led programs are becoming more and more similar, I’d really highly recommend the Cambridge PGCE course (the faculty are lovely too, I’m sure if you wanted some advice they’d be more than happy to show you around and discuss the various options available), feel free to drop me a message if you would like some tips too :)

for me writing my notes in colour, and using highlighters works the best. of course i don't color everything but have a color coding system. so i can clearly see whether these are key terms or examples or strange details or not-so-important ones. when i review these really help. and i just learn best by colors, visuals, diagrams and pictures. we're really different Holly!!
@megh_na Жыл бұрын
I don't know who realized this but I come back to this video more times than i would like to admit and the way she wrote her notes is actually the kind of mind-mapping Justin Sung preaches to do! So satisfying to make that connection and obviously I'm now going to implement it far more than i used to! Love you Holly 💌

I feel like this Shows how Cambridge is not all its cracked up to be. They've clearly not helped you or guided you when its come to employment after university whereas other unis really help with that. They're meant to guide you and help you sort all of this out and provide you with help to getting a job so you do know/have sorted what you are doing next rather than "not knowing".

For years I have only used white plain paper! First, it looks way more minimalistic and there's less visual pollution, it looks a lot cleaner and easy to reread. And, secondly, there's a lot more liberty to draw and make graphs and fluxograms.

Hi Holly, Firstly a massive congrats on your graduation!!! I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while now, I graduated in 2017 and am starting a PGCE uni led course this year having worked assistant teaching in a school for the last 2 years. I’m sure you’re fully informed but the teach first route into teaching is the ‘most difficult’ and they usually deliberately place you in very challenging schools. It will be so interesting to see you journey into teaching!

I 💯% agree with everything you have spoken about in this video. I too find it difficult to learn things from printed notes and I scribble down on the sides of the paper. I'm in my final year of uni now and I'll follow this method of revision throughout the year.

My favourite way to write notes in uni is to either copy or type up the notes and pictures on the PowerPoint. Then annotate with what the lecturer says and any extra reading
@rociopenin78235 жыл бұрын
I love plain paper! I also have started using it in my second year at uni (which is also when I actually learnt how to properly study). I've learnt to summarize from your method and it has saved me a lot of time, so thanks, Holly! However, I LOVE highlighters, but I have a strict color coding system in place. I use it sparingly. I use them to distinguish authors, their works, topics and subtopics, etc. I rather underline longer sentences or write them in capital leters so I can visualize them quickly when I'm revising.

Unles I use some expensive high quality paper, highlighters make stains on the other side of the paper. Coloured ballpens don’t. If I use highlighters, they’re pastel (Stabilo usually), so that the colour isn’t too eyegrabbing.

@HollyGabrielle5 жыл бұрын
ok so i send this all out as a form but will eventually put it on the website to avoid having to send lots of emails! i did not expect that much interest but it is more popular than i thought! i also want to make it as accessible as possible, but i am pretty busy at the moment. so .... settling on a price was super hard! however, to the point, the personal statement help is £20/hour and this will be the same for the biology tutoring for first sign-ups. the biology tutoring price will then probably increase slightly due to a higher demand!!

Very useful video. Would also be helpful if you would be willing to share an actual copy of your notes so that we can understand your technique better. The other thing I'd appreciate would be if you could make a video on how to answer questions in exams. I find that a lot of us, despite having revised, may not do as well in exams because we don't know how to address the question properly and phrase the answers in a way that directly answers the question (especially for essays).
