I was in the Peace Corps Honduras 1992-1994 and loved it. It is not easy and very challenging, but also very rewarding in the ways I did not think it would be. It takes a lot of flexibility and patience. I think the application process is tough on purpose to weed out the slackers who want to travel on the government's dime. Unfortunately I served with a few that totally used the PC for a vacation, mostly guys I'd say. I had to go to NYC for my interview and I had never been there. I rode the subway and all, so that in itself was a bit of a challenge. My interviewer told me there were people who applied, got called for an interview and were too reluctant to go to NYC to interview. The challenge will make you grow so much, and you'll be constantly challenged in training and work. Never sell yourself short on what you an do. The language training is excellent, I learned Spanish in three months-no joke. I took Latin is HS! Good luck, I am so proud to see people still putting themselves out there for the challenge, wish I was doing it all over again.

Going through this now. The medical clearance portion is so unforgiving. Thank God I have a job that provides great coverage and that I invested in my flexi spending account. I feel like im burning through my pto with doctors visits and still having to pay for a lot of medical clearance stuff outta pocket. Is it just me or is it like everytime you submit one thing for medical clearance you have to submit 5 other things. I applied for Georgia to be a community development volunteer.

Medical Clearance, what a headache! Hang in there. Definitely fill out those reimbursement forms PC provides, you should be reimbursed for most of the cost. What country are you headed to?

I applied Dec 30, and heard early January when the government was shut down. Then the day the govt reopened they emailed to ask me for an interview. I said anyplace, anytime, anything-if that helps.

I am in the process of applying. Overall, how prepared were you when you arrived for your interview?Was your application for service, your first choice? thanks
@morandaramirez32794 жыл бұрын
First thing, they have evacuated all volunteers due to COVID-19, so I am unsure if they'll be taking applications right now. Luckily, they sent an email with the interview questions, which allowed me time to familiarize myself with them. It was a Skype interview, and for me, that alleviated a lot of nerve! And yes, I specifically applied for my category of work and to go to Belize. Many of my peers submitted a general application and were assigned to it. GOOD LUCK!

Hello! I know you posted this two years ago so you might be busy or on your trip and not see this, but I wanted to ask if I could contact you with some questions about the application process and overall program! Let me know when you can, thank you!
@Sarah-be3vc6 жыл бұрын
May I contact you? I have interviewed twice and I still cannot get accepted. I know it is because I am super nervous and not answering well. You're right! They have a couple questions that caught me way off guard and I believe it is why I got rejected.

What were the questions?
@holliebaker69415 жыл бұрын
When you applied, did you submit a cover letter? or multiple cover letters? I'm curious as to how much additional information can be submitted and if it is necessary.
@morandaramirez32795 жыл бұрын
You submit an essay initially. Then further down the application process they'll have you submit an Aspiration Letter. The app is pretty straight forward and doesn't require a lot of extra work.
