Well in America many people, like you said are still currently doing YAGP and many scholarships on America are given out there. The Prix isn't as well advertised. Also, the Prix is older kids while YAGP holds many kids of all ages and the older kids can get contracts w companies in America.

This is just so far from anything I experienced at a child. I was lucky to even have a community outreach program that brought ballet to poor kids like me. I couldn't have imagined all the private lessons, costumes, flight costs, lodging, paying for a coach to come with me, just a whole other world. Still is.

Absolutely stunning, such diligence and passion, both Ms. Claudia and Primrose, and lovely other coach. Her artistry, expression, presentation of her costume, face, hair -- she looked like the Prima! Especially important was the whole experience! I love how Claudia asked Primrose what was the most important thing she learned! Yes, and also, "winning" the competition is just one of many roads to success/goal, and opportunity comes through multiple doors and avenues. Being your best in each moment, during private coaching, group work, pre and post -- your entire character is on view, and I guarantee the hiring decisions are based as much on character, work ethic, and potential as pure performance. Godspeed ❤️❤️❤️

There were quite a few Americans that applied for the Prix but just didn't get through. Also, there are a few different ballet competitions in the US (YAGP, Indianapolis IBC, ADC|IBC, World Ballet Competition, Young Arts, etc.) that don't require dancers to have to travel so far.

I am very surprised that many Americans or Brits don’t even try to audition for the Prix. Just look at all the great dancers who have participated in the Prix de Lausanne: Carlos Acosta, Alessandra Ferri, Diana Vishneva, Gillian Murphy, Sergei Polunin, Alina Cojocaru, Vadim Muntagirov, etc. etc.... no offense, but YAGP is not the same. Most of the price winners didn‘t make it into the same league, many didn‘t even make it to a company or quit ballet. So I think if you are from America and you really want to become a famous dancer, it’s worth a try. Even if it’s far away and an expensive trip. Australia is much more far away, for them it’s right at the other end of the world!!
@halatarek86747 жыл бұрын

Well as an American, I wouldn't really consider Prix an option since (I believe) you have to travel to another country? It's easier for me to consider YAGP because it's all in my home country. Idk, that's just me.
@audioswapsuniverse4 жыл бұрын
Thats true, I also find that many of the americans that actually apply to prix are looking to join overseas companies instead of NYCB or ABT in the future
@mathildewesendonck72254 жыл бұрын
Audioswaps Universe but that’s actually silly, because there are soooo many more big companies in Europe, and not everyone can make it to ABT or NYCB. I also noticed that Prix de Lausanne winners often have more successful careers. Many famous dancers have been to Prix de Lausanne when they where young. Like Gillian Murphy, Alina Cojocaru, Vadim Muntagirov, Sergei Polunin, Alena Kovaleva (not even a finalist at the Prix- four years later First Soloist at the Bolshoi 😅), etc. etc.... Many YAGP price winners didn‘t make it very far
