I have a lot of friends and family in Hawaii, but have never actually lived there! I'm planning to go to UH Manoa, but my dad is making me take a gap year because of the crazy out-of-state tuition fee! So, he wants me to establish residency in Hawaii so I can get the in-state fee. Hope I get in!
@LaurenSalz7 жыл бұрын
UH Manoa has a whole page on residency requirements. Here is the link: goo.gl/Bo1q75 Hawaii is the most expensive state in the U.S. to live in. So, it'll definitely be hard for you, if your parents don't send you some money each month. If you're really determined though, you'll find a way to make it happen :)

for people that want to go to uh manoa, make sure it’s REALLY where you want to go. The education is just average for the price out of state students have to pay (other than marine bio majors). It’s more of a commuter school than a party school just in case that’s what you were thinking of doing. However, there’s a lot of things you can do outdoors like hiking and surfing if you want to go for the experience :)

aloha! I know that this video is already like 3 years old, but I'm hoping someone will respond to me ;-; I'm going to be a junior in high school, and I have 4.28 weighted/3.89 unweighted gpa and I've taken almost all the science classes my school has to offer. I've taken multiple diagnostic ACTs and got between 31-34 each time...I also played piano and won many international competitions up until last year & have volunteered at an animal shelter since I was 13. but, I'm not that involved in school clubs (only GSA for now). I'm not worried about being accepted, but I am OOS (Pennsylvania) and worried about the tuition. will I be able to get a decent amount of grant and scholarship (family income is not that high :/ ) based on what I have on my transcript already, or should I be looking to join more clubs for leadership positions? UH Manoa is my dream school, but I don't think I would be able to afford the high tuition without a scholarship... thank you for the video!! and also someone please help me with this lol
@aubreythomas44774 жыл бұрын
You can get a good amount of financial aid if you are low income. You could also take a gap year and establish residence in Hawaii. So live there for 12 months, work a job and save as much as you can, keep applying to grants and scholarships (you should be doing this now too!). Then apply for in state tuition which is muchhhhh cheaper!

I'm so sorry Danny, I'm not sure how long it would take. But if you're at KCC now, you should be able to transfer to UH the following semester if you already applied and met all the deadlines. :)
@rayage7777 жыл бұрын
Take this with a grain of salt because I did this a long time ago, but I went to WCC, HCC, and LCC then went to UH. Since they are all in the UH system, there is no troubles going to UH. From UH to a CA (or vice versa) is a lot more difficult because the college you are going to has to make sure the classes are similar. Take the description of the class courses to the new college.

Heyo. Im a junior in high school with a 2.6 gpa and im taking SATs next month. 😔 I take a lot of college prep couses and even skipped a level in Japanese[2nd to 4th year] plus, Im SUPER involved in school and the cali community [leading school clubs, dance crews, i also co-founded an annual dance battle event for charity, and am an intern producers assistant. I'm worried about not getting accepted because my gpa is .2 points Below what the requirement is. [2.8] but im also hoping my sat score and extensive involvement in my community would make up for that, if i happen to not be able to fully bring up that 2.6? Idk right now and I really need advice. I REALLLY WANT TO GO TO UH MANOA. Is there any insight that can calm my nerves or at least help me towards that Ho'omaika'i admissions letter?? Thank you🙏

So extracurricular activities don’t really play into your acceptance into Manoa that’s more so for applying for scholarships but if your gpa is low but your SAT score is high it’ll balance out. Like a 2.6 gpa with a 1300 sat score you’ll probably get in. I had a really high gpa but my sat score didn’t reach the minimum and I got in.
