Great video, it's always heart warming to hear animators talk about their past work.

I think it's super interesting to hear you talk about your experience working on this movie. I would love to see more of these kind of videos talking about some other films you've worked on. If you don't mind me asking; What are some of the sequences in Quest For Camelot of Ruber that you yourself animated?
@asteuartw4 жыл бұрын
Hm, I animated quite a few. I never cut a demo reel from “Quest” because the movie was so poorly reviewed, it became a bit of an embarrassment. But looking back, I am proud of the shots I animated. I will see if I can cut a reel of Quest shots - it might take a while though!

You did an awesome job my man, Ruber's a metal as fuck villain. Can easily hold his own alongside any of the Disney Renaissance baddies.

Not an animator, nor an artist, but I find it very interesting to see the artists talk and show the process of working on animations. Especially when it's about movies and characters that you end up remembering for decades. For me, Ruber was one of those characters: as a kid, he was scary, but there is that certain something about him that made him very fun to watch. He has very unique design along with the majority of Quest characters! Griffin is still my favorite 2D fantasy creature, the metal men are all interesting with their different talents and designs. I know the movie as a whole didn't do well, but I think it's still a very fun and entertaining watch. I'd still watch it if I had a VHS player. :D

I did notice in the end credits that several outside studios helped onto making Quest for Camelot, how much of the animation was produce in-house and internationally?
@asteuartw2 ай бұрын
Hard to say exactly. Most animation was done in-house

This is an excellent willan for me it was maybe the scariest one because psychopathy is so evident even from childs perspective and in this regard he is properly medevil villain. The Black Cauldron is supposed to be scariest of them all but the villain is just a shadow masked one. Ruber is the best part of animation in that movie. I am just surprised how huge is the difference in antimation of Space Jam and his movie as a whole in quality if the same teams had to help finish Space Jam. I only have a feeling they rushed you and the change of directors took a tole on the technical quality. I only yesterday found out that this was a box office flop as I saw it on VHS and didn't see it for years. I noticed that happens with movies that are slightly outside of the box - more interesting.

Fun fact, it remains as one of the only animated films with Q initials that in a way has positive quality despite trying to be Disney and manages to be in some lists of the greatest animated films of all time (Watchmojo for example) at least it is a great looking movie with great fantasy world building, am I right?

So did you come up with Ruber's design yourself or did the team already have an idea of what he looked like?
@asteuartw Жыл бұрын
I don’t recall who designed Ruber originally. As lead animator I made minor tweaks to the design but changed little.
