@@416TOJA i work for customs Canada but its the same all over the world. Please read your countries website for rules and guidelines. If your item can fit in a suitcase bring it and remove any pricing etc. Set up the TV before you leave so it looks used. Same for laptops put something on it pictures files videos so it seems "used" they cant tax personal items! Don't overdo it with 5 phones, 3 laptops etc

I considered shipping furniture from Canada till I realized how much it would be. I flew to Miami for cheap, bought some of my furnishings there. Using Seaboard Marine, we brought the stuff we bought to them to ship. Also sent my Amazon orders to them. No storage fee for 30 days. They ship to Jamaica every Friday. Way cheaper than shipping from here! even with the flight. (I shipped couches, beds, matresses, kitchen table, TV's, patio furniture etc). Now customs, that's a different story LOL! Now that was STRESS. I'm glad my shipping is done, lets just say that! All other little things like kitchen/bath accessories I've just crammed in suitcases every time I go down.

The only thing I would warn about buying in these countries is: - alot of these furnitures are made with young un treated wood, which simply don't work well in a tropical climate, they will get eaten away and fall apart in no time.

U have some nasty customer officers that u get a sale on an item for $1000 at 50% off. When u get there they r telling u book value is $2000 to tax u, dem tief no raas! We just have to do our research still as sometimes cost, shipping and clearing add up to what u pay in Jamaica. ❤🇯🇲🇺🇸

@RR-sp2op2 ай бұрын
@@Beautybizz28 It does not make it right, the laws/bylaws/rules need to change period! How can u have a ORIGINAL RECEIPT stating a purchase but being charged (book value) that’s moronic to the ( average person). Which to mean deny ur family members of having quality items! Instead they want Jamaicans on the island to purchase China knock offs or overpriced boutique items. They r full of it, more Jamaicans live outside Jamaica than the 2.5 million that live there. The Jamaicans abroad is the biggest part of the economy! Tax the super rich and not the average people! What, they shouldn’t have nice things? Why shouldn’t they have a $100 shirt that cost $50 that can be washed and worn again? Why be forced to buy an item for $2000 Jamaican and can’t wash and wear 2 times? Stop giving foreign businesses 5YEARS TAX FREE DEALS!
@Beautybizz282 ай бұрын
@@RR-sp2op Its not about right or wrong its the law. I live in Canada we pay high taxes and duties. I disagree that we should just tax the rich to fix problems. People need equal opportunities and Jamaicans are hard working they deserve a higher wages. Tourism brings JA lots of money what are they doing with it? If they tried to tax the rich affluent Jamaicans would leave in high numbers. I didn't make it in life to pay for corna bwoy to dig out their hand middle and drink special all day! What they need is a cap on how many children ghetto people can have. How can children be raised in dire poverty. Their is a difference between being poor and Ghetto!

@@RR-sp2op foreigners wouldn't invest in Jamaica without tax breaks. No benefits for them with the high crime, lack of infrastructure and high taxes to import goods. The same reasons people are trying to leave.

@@RR-sp2op why should the rich be taxed that will never happen in Jamaica! Everyone would leave. How about the govt stops spending funds meant for the average Jamaican. That mentality is why people can't send money to family to-do business for them without it disappearing.

Thats why I keep telling people that it is criminal to try to justify and defend the pittance salaries that people in Jamaica earn in the public sector by saying that it is cheaper to live in Jamaica. A handful of things here may be less expensive and not many, but most of the bigger ticket items like furniture, appliances, houses and cars are hella expensive here for the salaries that we earn. That is why hire purchase schemes reign and drain our pockets. Otherwise sleep on the floor.

Me pay basically 40k fi clear 2 barrel me self plus wid $1000 us points. Don't see the sense of the points. Because I paid roughly 20k to clear 1 a while back, without points. So something not adding up if a roughly 40k me pay the other day for 2 with points.

You said these things are expensive in Jamaica but they are from the states or Canada they are not from Jamaica, maybe that's why. A lot of rich men go down to Jamaican build these stores, so everything is imported.
