Just bought one for the a7S3 & a7R5! Super stoked to use it as soon as it arrives! Thanks for the video!

Yep I just got an FX6 and have an easyrig I agree with your assessment. Easyrig + FX6 is amazingly fun to shoot.

I also love my Minimax Easyrig. I have directly bought the upgrade to the Quick release system and can only recommend that to everyone, which makes grabbing the camera super easy. It is also very helpful if you often switch to another camera

The natural progression of any camera operator is to start handheld, add a tripod, go back to handheld, add an EasyRig, and eventually go back to a tripod and handheld. I’ve had an EasyRig for many years, but it almost never gets used anymore unless I’m doing long handheld takes with a cinema camera. For the FX6, it’s too clunky to get the shots I want, and it just slows everything down. Plus, the FX6 is already so light, that you have to add weight (at least for my full size EasyRig.) It’s a great tool in certain applications, but I see far too many people using them when they’re just walking around shooting b roll. The reason we’re using the FX6 is because it’s already small, lightweight and more discreet than a cinema camera, why ruin it?

100% agreed on all fronts. It's a balancing act. Recently I've been mixing in just straight up handheld too! Different looks and styles for all types of shoots. Part of me now wants to look into shoulder rigs too!

The best and most successful cam ops I know are monsters with cameras on their shoulders, that might be one of the best skills a young op could work on. Unfortunately, I’m 6’5” so that angle hasn’t been usable for most things, but I would love to do more of it.

@@MrAndrewClaycomb as a 5’ 7” fella I think I could hold it down!! I was against it for a long time mainly bc I used a shitty one that hurt my shoulder in college haha. That’s next up!

Hey Jon, Great job on the video. I gotta know, what lens were you using for this shoot. I see you use the 70-200 a lot, but just wondering the ones you used for the shots at 1:36 and 1:46. Those shots are textbook! Tac sharp man! Any insight would be appreciated. Keep up the great work.

Thanks so much!! 1:36 is Sony GM 70 - 200 v1 f2.8 and 1:46 is the Sony 24-70 gm v1 f2.8. Cheers!

Love the EasyRig. I used the Minimax for a documentary/reality shoot with the Canon C200. By biggest problem was just getting it balanced and comfortable on my hips and back. I was really sore after a long shoot but it still made it possible to handhold a 15 to 20 lb camera rig for hours at a time. Definitely not designed for long walking or tracking shots, but I wonder if you try just lightly guiding the camera as opposed to putting pressure on it, letting gravity do the work, almost like with a Steadicam system

Hi Jon, great video! I have a few options (ie Tilta & smaller steadicam), but haven't ever tried the Easyrig, which would give a narrower profile. What lens did you use to get that awesome flare with red rings (ie at 20 sec)? The only lens I know that will do something similar to this is the EF 50 1.2. Sony flares green :-(
