I mention in the video to use the slide release for take down, and actually on this pistol pulling slightly back on the slide to release works better for take down.

The Rolex of handguns. I carried a 1911 starting at age 15 (1962), then later in Vietnam, then later when I worked as a contractor. I purchased a 220 around 77 or 78. Used it as a CCW for years. Always carried with a Clipdraw... no holster. I also have other Sigs in 226 and 229. 9mm, 40S&W and 357 Sig. Every time I use one of them on rotation I dry fire it in double action twenty times to refresh muscle memory for that first trigger pull. Love the .40 S&W and the .357 Sig 226's and 229's. Can't seem to miss with them. Been in a couple of scrapes with them.

I have owned a German P220 for decades. It is an OUTSTANDING firearm - wonderful quality, durability, reliability and accuracy. It is my bedside weapon, I trust my family’s life to it, which certainly indicates the merited confidence I have for this autoloader. For lawful home defense, I use an Sig 10 round, .45 ACP magazine, currently loaded with Golden Sabers; This 10+1 capacity and the superior P220 provide more than adequate safety and efficacy for any realistic threat I’ll encounter. I understand those who may prefer more-contemporary 9mm, striker-fired, polymer-framed, higher capacity semiautomatics, however, each individual must evaluate his likely threats and equip himself accordingly. IMHO, the advantages of the Sig P-series’ DA/SA design are considerable.

I'd love to have it in 10mm :) Maybe one of these days, I'm thinking about a 10mm actually.

I own a couple P220 - just an fyi the Swiss have exported arms prior to partnering up with Sauer. Check ur sources.
@vanguns966422 күн бұрын
The Swiss are a significant exporter of arms however they have extreme restrictions for exports and those regulations often change with administrative changes over the years. There are times that the Swiss government has shut down all exports of civilian arms and other times where they relaxed a bit. Sig was faced with both a difficult governmental hurdles to export the P220 in large numbers and also their own lack of capacity to produce the firearm at the levels needed to fill demand. This video was not intended to be a documentary on the evolution of Sig arms or their partnership with Joseph Sauer & Sohn. If you research the history of the P220 from SIG themselves they explain it in similar terms. It was easier to keep it simple for the video but you are correct I made it seem like Switzerland bans exports and it that regard I was not correct. For a large production runs like the P220 as a mass market firearm, the Swiss regulations are a defacto ban on exports.

2:17 What about a SA only P220 vs. the 1911? You mentioned that the SA/DA P220 isn't as fast, but they also come in SA only. Any thoughts on that?
@vanguns96644 ай бұрын
I have never fired an SA P220. Generally SA only semi-auto pistols are faster to shoot because it is much easier to make the trigger with a short take up.

The SAO P220 is awesome! With the SRT it’s a work of art.

Don't want a Pic rail. A light or a laser I like my west German 220 the way it is
@RealtorRod645 ай бұрын
That's the beauty of it really, you don;t have to put a rail on it or a light or another attachment :)
@richvest72126 ай бұрын
I agree on the grips for my 220 But pic rails are sacrilegious on a nice pistol
@vanguns96646 ай бұрын
Well that depends I suppose but I don't necessarily disagree

They were better guns back then . Perhaps needing parts change more frequently but they were more accurate and better triggers and better balanced .

You need to find an ORIGINAL P220 that has the bottom mag release. It is a totally different 'feeling' handgun.
@vanguns96649 ай бұрын
I have never cared for the bottom mag release.

I definitely prefer a da/sa gun makes sense to me. No safety u can carry it and work like your running a revolver mentality

1911's arenot for amateurs Cocked and locked is stupid Double action/single action far superior and safer Most trigger "upgrades" are dangerous expensive crap 💩 Leave engineering to engineers
@vanguns96649 ай бұрын
I don't think cocked and locked is stupid, but I do think in a panic situation with little time to react to the threat, you are more likely to make a mistake running through the manual of arms on a cocked and locked pistol then a DA or DA/SA pistol. Trigger upgrades are more often than not a safe upgrade. Older triggers like the one found in this early 1990s Sig were actually upgraded by Sig in the 2000's to have a shorter reset and smoother pull. So if you are leery of third party triggers, then you might be more comfortable upgrading to a modern Sig trigger that will fit and function in the older gun.

Cocked and locked is like you're in enemy territory and under threat of being attacked at any time, if someone wants to go cocked and locked its their personal choice but thats my 2 cents
@jodylivengood406119 күн бұрын
DA/SA has its own safety issue that never gets mentioned. Deoccking it after you jiust smoked someone with it. Too many people shoot these guns until it's empty. So at no point are they using the decock function. I'm a DA/SA guy so I'm not knocking it. I like the pull and fire aspect and after that you're in a gunfight so a SA trigger is going to be easier to hit with. Plus you have the option to start things off in SA. But you really need to get into the habit of decocking that pistol so when you're in a real situation you do it automatically. So practice shooting a few rounds and decocking before you run out of ammo. For people that say a DA to SA is an unworkable trigger system I hope you never get stuck using a revolver for anything serious because you're going to be screwed.

Hey brother you are right I have that pistol, hey it's a good gun, I only own it no other pistol, I bought mine in1989 , I have shot other pistols in .9mm .40 caliber. I even shot a 911 custom colt , it was my favorite pistol in the world but no more my sig was lighter and although the trigger isn't as good it's still a very good trigger, and this is what blew my mind brothers and sisters, the sig is a better balanced because it's lighter and it shoots softer then a colt 911 I think a 911 is the best Looking pistol made but pound for pound I'll give my sig the edge to a 911 pistol now that I have shot one they are real heavy the p220 is heavy but not like a 911 the 911 is the daddy of pistols though, , I have shot the daddy of pistols the 911 and I see now why people stick with a platform sig p220 I know I can put it together in my sleep it way more easily to take down and put up , and you are not imagining that you're sig p220 has less recoil you are right the 911 has a better trigger but rather fight with my sig the manual of arms I like better than colts 911 for me I could show my daughters who never held a pistol to use my sig p220 much faster than my buddies colt 911 a colt 911 is a cold ass pistol and the OG and I give them a five star ranking but a sig design lets the p220 be lighter and easier recoiling then a 911 I love my sig made in West Germany it's a real hot dog
