This is the story of my personal experience with GDV. It was one of the hardest things I have been through but it will not be for nothing. I hope to educate people and prevent a similar situation from happening in the future. Thank you so much for watching

Thank you for sharing. We just recently had this happen to our beautiful 13yo senior Akita mix. We noticed the behaviors you mentioned: walking funny, vomiting without output etc. We had no idea about what bloat/GDV was until googling his symptoms and rushed him to the vet. They confirmed and I cried like a baby. It was a very expensive emergent surgery but I didn’t care; I just told the dr to please save him. He’s home with us now and is recovering. He is more than a pet to us; he is our 13yo fur baby. I know one day he will leave us but this way, this time was not the way for him to go. Thank you once again for sharing and I’m so sorry you had to go through that.

Thanks for sharing this and getting the message out on bloat. I had all 3 of my GSDs die from bloat. Two were euthanized on the emergency table. The first time I didn’t recognize the signs and was at a cottage without any internet. He was restless, panting and throwing up white foamy vomit but it was humid that night and dogs throw up so I took a wait and see approach - worst decision on my part. He made it thru the night but in the morning when his back legs collapsed I rushed him to emergency. During the operation the doctor realized he was too damaged and recommended euthanasia - I was in shock but agreed. That was 12 years ago and I miss him incredibly. A year after his death I adopted two more. One got bloat within 3 years with me, she displayed the symptoms: white foamy vomit, restlessness, wanting to hide...but I was prepared this time. Immediately called the emergency vet saying I had a GSD with a bloat case on the way - so they could prepare and to see how busy they were (if they were really busy I had a back up vet a little farther away - minutes matter with bloat). When we arrived (10 minutes) they immediately took her to the back for xrays and within 5 minutes saw the signature “double bubble” stomach twist on the xray. They didn’t have to explain, as I knew, and I immediately said go ahead with the surgery. Because her bloat was identified and operated (and stapled) on so fast (50 minutes total) she recovered completely - she did die of it 4 years later thou due to lower esophageal sphincter and gastric motility failure and had to be euthanized. The 3rd GSD case was very frustrating, he also displayed all the hallmark signs: restlessness, white foamy vomit, wanting to go outside or hide, panting...So, called the same emergency vet again saying I had a bloat case but this time the different vet didn’t see the xray “double bubble” and insisted it wasn’t bloat. I assured her that I truly believed it was and I requested a radiologist look at it. She hemmed and hawed about it for 3 friggin’ hours insisting it was mega esophagus (which can be secondary to a bloat case). Finally, the results came back from the radiologist as bloat but since minutes matter, his insides were too dead and it had taken out his intestines. So he was euthanized as well. Never thought about the possibility of a vet misdiagnosing something like bloat when minutes matter, of course she never even said sorry, probably fearing a lawsuit. These all happened between 9:30pm and 11:30pm - they seem to happen mostly at night - my day vet had never had a case. So if you’re still reading this, long story short: Because minutes matter and you had to wait so long to get approval, there’s a good chance you could have paid the $2-3000.00 and still have to euthanize. Bloat sucks and I can’t wait for a cure.

I am honestly so sorry for your loss I couldn’t imagine going through the same thing three times. when a dog dies it just such a hesitant feeling to get a new dog because you know the previous one cant ever be replaced and just the guilt, what would she think if we got a new dog? I’m watching videos on bloat just to get educated, my blue Great Dane died yesterday, she had breast cancer also, even if it wasn’t bloat I can’t help but think she died this way, and I don’t want to think I killed her because I fed her that day. it’s still a mystery to me, she showed all the symptoms of bloat according to my mom, foaming at the mouth, throwing up spit, wouldn’t eat, she even tried to dig a hole. it hurts me to know I wasn’t there with her when she died, she died alone. My mom said she honestly didn’t know which was worse, her dying in your arms or her dying alone and finding her. I disagree. I would’ve done everything I could just for her to know she was loved in her last moments. I couldn’t do that. I’m just happy I got the chance to see her that day but I wish I wouldn’t have left, im pissed I didn’t spend more time with her. when I came home I was in disbelief, my mom said she had bad news and I just said “I know, you told me, she has worms.” because she was acting the same way when she had hookworms. It’s just so surprising how fast it can happen. Morning she was a happy dog no signs of distress, 2pm she wanted to play with my mom, but was shrugged off because, my mom thought she had worms and didn’t wanna get them herself because we aren’t wealthy whatsoever to get treated but my stepdads parents provided the medicine for the dog, next thing you know, following night she was dead. It was hard for me. I saw her lifeless, just thinking I could’ve seen her when she was alive and I just started breaking down. I couldn’t sleep at night the thought just kept me up, I went in the backyard at 6 or 7 in the morning, it felt so empty, I walked and seen her bone she always played with, just a few days ago she was running wild with her bone. I started breaking down some more, and then I visited her dog house, I remember I sat in there with her and she wouldn’t let me out. she could’ve lived a better life, I just hope she knew I loved her. Rest In Peace roxy you aren’t hurting anymore. You were the best girl ever.

Those last few moments were peaceful for him. You gave him a peaceful and loving goodbye - this is rare in both the human and animal world.

My dog is in heat and she seems to cramp up (her sides get big and tight but not her stomach) and walk backwards and have abdominal pain on one side, she pants but nothing else happens.. I plan to see a vet soon but won’t be able to afford 2-5,000 for surgery and hope they offer payment plans because this is my baby

My dog Bigfoot suffered from bloat about a month ago and I gave him gas x and he got alright he has had a few episodes lately we're he tried to bloat again and my vet said to give him gas x pills Everytime he eats now.. he is almost 14 years old and he has a slipped disc and can't walk. And I have been taking care of him for over a month now since he can't walk... you are a very good person.

@@PawsRelax I lost my baby boy bigfoot he passed away a week ago today Monday he had aspiration pneumonia again for the fourth time due to his bloating there isn't enough words in the English language to describe how I feel me and Arnold are lost without him now Arnold don't want to eat anything unless he gets really hungry he will but it is like a thousand bee stings to my heart to loose him I don't know what to do without my bigfoot he was the main cheese here I love Arnold just as much as bigfoot because I raised them both as babies
