I would have liked to hear more of the host asked Canibus about his illustrious career that spans over 3 decades & over 20 albums & classics like Hip Hop For Sale, Mind Control, C of Tranquility, Melatonin Magik, Mic Club The Curriculum, For Whom the Beat Tolls, Rip The Jacker, etc. than to rehash beef from 25 years ago. There’s more to Canibus than old beefs. He’s a legend & an icon, long live the lyrical King!

It warms my heart seeing Canibus get love, man. This guy spent the bulk of his career taking shots and he still has love for Hip-Hop. The man deserves every flower he gets. Yeah he made some mistakes along the way but he was trying to navigate the murky waters - and a lot of the time, he was trying to do it alone. Or at least with people who maybe didn't have the best intentions in mind. Salute to Canibus, man. I'll always be grateful for his contribution and I just hope he knows he has an army of supporters who love him for who he is and what he has brought to the table. I picked up every CD I could get my hands on. His first album was expensive for me to buy back in my teenage years, because it was an import. Back then, you used to get 3 CD's for £10 and I spent £15 on his. It was a choice between his album or 3 others. I never regretted that purchase and I still have it today.

@ThirteenAmp Жыл бұрын
He's a phenomenal lyricist but he isn't close to the greatest, he's more or less 1 track minded, his rhymes from any album would fit with rhymes from other albums, he doesn't do story telling much for example, doesn't have dense esoteric verses that you have to break down with a dictionary like Aesop Rock or MF DOOM His songs are 98% "I'll bash ya, lyrically smash ya, with a shotgun like a front seat passenger" he's a punchline emcee with the likes from Chino XL, Royce 59, Crooked I (King Crook), Ortiz, Big L, Copywrite (mainly old) etc etc, he's punchlines and battle rhymes with a small bit of weird scientific (somewhat conspiracy) concepts. All his albums are the same topics and lyrical exercises (he spent 4 albums talking about lyrical fitness before he switched to lyrical law)

Just go back and listen to those of you who may not have been paying attention to this dude in the late 90s. You either weren't old enough yet, not born yet or you were living under a rock. Thanks to the internet, you can still hear it all. And remember, he was just a kid back then. He had to always rhyme last on a track because you would be crazy to try to spit after him in those days when he was young and hungry. He was obviously an influence for modern day battle rap. His skills need to be known by the broader hip hop audience.

Learned ALOT about Canibus with just the clips. I'm excited to check into the full episode. Sidenote: Ya'll need more southern rap legends on the show. 8 Ball & MJG, Ghetto Mafia, Young Bloodz, Outkast Members, Goodie Mob Members, Get stories from both Northen and Southern rap artists, would be great to simultaneously getting stories and information from both, hopefully MEP can bridge the gap between southern artists and northern. How often do we hear the south and the north collaborate?? RARE!!!!! You all have the established platform, make it happen by getting them on and sharing their stories. I believe people will eventually, serendipitously gel the two cultures, southern and northern and realize ITS ALL HIP-HOP/RAP, come from the same struggle but maybe just with some different flavors in the mix. Folk stop hating on Bigga finding peace, the streets of NY clearly adopted him and he adapted to his adoption, bravo to the homie for consistently attempting to walk a different path. Dont get caught in the hype wave math hoffa, you/you all are doing the damn thing. Lets beware of allowing our egos as men to turn strong shows like this into gossip forums, and petty podcaster beef, dont want strong shows like this to turn into the male version of Ricky Lake or Wendy Williams, focued on the drama and "tea" of others. Lets keep getting the good stories of triumph, success with this hip hop game in whatever form or fashion hip hop served you/you life to elevate you to higher existences of this living world. Later on M.E.O Sincerely, K.M

Always wanted to hear from Bis having been a fan of his bars and his curious fall from the mainstream. Unbelievable lyricist and seems a honest humble man. Great interview!

Only reason I think Canibus didn’t make the cut, is ‘cause he couldn’t make comercial joints. Otherwise, he would’ve taken off and dusted emcees. Edit This by far has become my favorite interview. I’m glad Canibus is in a good space with himself. I’m also glad that he’s given the platform to clear things up, and talk about his obstacles, vulnerabilities, etc through out his career. Much love and respect. The hug part was dope!

I think they didn't want him in the limelight because they had other plans for hip-hop to go in a different direction. And the super-enlightened, intellectually superior, well-rounded, masculine confident style of a rapper like Canibus didn't fit into their plans. The year 2000 all the major labels joined and formed a super conglomerate. Soon after began the shift towards digitization of music, improvement of technology but degradation of the art. They did not want an intelligent, straight Black man with advanced thought and impeccable speech to be popular. They had to do everything possible to discredit and "blackball" him.

Am with you People didn't even realize they had bigger plans for hiphop and if your face didn't fit there scope it was game over for who ever you are talented or not it was by design and our own ppl sold us out the culture is like pop really weak and soft.. peace out from England..big up math Hoffa on did 1 💯canibus

I’ve been waiting for bis to get his flowers bro. I’ve been going to and from work for many years bumping his hot 97 and clue freestyles and his features. The “I speak in frequencies” freestyle on hot 97 is still the greatest shit I ever heard in my life. It’s like a church hymn to me. Nas taking his Verse off desperados, 2nd round KO. I love this dude bro. No weird shit. I damn near cried seeing the end to this video. This shit brought closure to me as well. Salute to you math.

His new material is just as complex and passionate, hard beats too - Kaiju etc. Bis is a legend, a myth and essentially an author in lyric form. You can't overstate how vast his output is and how dense and epic some of his tracks are. Leave out the talk of LL, Em and beat choice.. fun to hear about but all that is distraction from his monkish lifetime dedication to hip-hop and the potential of rapping. He is a result of the 1997-1998 pinnacle of lyric culture. I'm not a superfan, but I grew up in that period, I remember how he came out of nowhere and seemed to always have the spotlight, imagine the pressure, but he re-earned it everytime. Just went through 6 or 7 albums of his, as well as that spectacular freestyle compilation from his first 2 years in the game. All the stories alongside golden age greats, from LL to Em to Nas... He was like an alien but mixed in slang and relateable yet original one-liners (some of the most visceral and memorable ever), a great sense of humor with seriousness and ambition. Definitely made a huge impression on Eminem, I can hear him in Lupe's ambitious tracks too. And the voice - truthfully nothing he says would be quite as ill without that polarizing voice he has. As with many geniuses he has made many choices that have confused people and seemed like they were designed to alienate casual fans. I can't sympathize with Dizaster's thesis that the game has moved on/"evolved" from him... I think it's more they involved around him, because his highest achievements haven't been touched, though maybe paralleled. But this hopefully sparks a re-evaluation of his catalog, esp. in light of Billboard's list that left off G-Rap, Prodigy, MF DOOM, Pharoahe Monch, Lupe, Raekwon, GZA, etc. etc. Seems like a good dude too. S/o the legend Canibus 👑
