To me, by the dad stating, "We only did what we thought best for the family," was an unconscious way he admitted they only saw KATE and them as family, never including OP. Hell, him seeing no issue about approaching his DAUGHTER like he's negotiating terms with a disgruntled Nanny that's quit is sad and sickening. He and BIL may 'regret' their actions, but they were more aware than the others of the actions not being okay, especially BIL, but continued their abuse (and that's what it was, Abuse) only talking in DEFENSE of it when OP tried leaving before all this. They just feel guilty, but don't regret anything.

why is saying 'hell no' to babysitting so damned hard? the second my sister announced her pregnancy i made it clear that i don't want kids visiting, and i will never, for all the money in the world, babysit. kids in my family are hurricanes of distruction until age 8 or 9. both me and my sister were like that, our step brother from our father's second marriage was like that, and so is my nephew. if i want to see him and ruin her day (my sister hates anime, so i got my nephew into child-friendly anime; he likes to watch with the volume at ridiculous levels), i ask for permission to visit and then go home.

Sometimes Saying no is hard, coming from a psychological perspective (Pysch student) people who come from circumstances with extreme emotional manipulation find it hard as they will experience extreme guilt and anxiety. Op has also stated that they were disregarded as a child and I believe they went through a form of neglect, neglected and abused children often can't grasp without therapy that they aren't at fault because it is easier to think you are what's wrong then realise that the people who are meant to care for you don't care. The people will often think that they will be pushed aside for good and they aren't worth anything unless doing specific things that give them worth. Sorry this is a long Read just trying to shed some light!

My siblings couldn't be trusted with a kid when I had my son. Most of them still can't. But I have changed up who my son will go to if anything happens to me: my younger sister because I'm not just so proud of who she's become but she puts in the effort with me, my son, and our dad (who I care for and I cared for my mom before she passed too). She really feels bad about the past and has made amends. That being said, even if they had been perfect siblings, I would never have asked this of them. Even though, my older sister got pregnant at 13 and I had to help raise her baby and babysit for the two kids she had after that. I was 8 at the time of her first pregnancy. My parents adopted her son. Not much was expected of me, but he was born addicted to meth and almost died three times. So I wanted to be a good big sister. (He's awful now, though. I wouldn't piss to put him out if he was on fire. And I have OAB so I would literally have to hold it.) I don't get this whole "your sibling had a baby so now you do too" thing we hear in so many of these stories.

That's basically what a former co-worker of mine did. She did have one advantage in that she had several co-workers who really stepped up to help her after they found her crying in the break room. She was a really sweet kid who had a really controlling family. After sitting her down, and talking with her fellow staff members, she found one who happened to have a spare room that she could use. This got her physically out of being a close distance from her family. She would be on the opposite side of the city and no longer in an apartment of her own, It had been just so easy for her older brother and sister to just dump their 2 sets of kids off on her. Another unexpected result of the crying jag was that a male colleague got so angry with her family that his knight in shining armor streak came to the fore. He got his nerve up and asked her out. So she had no time to spare for her demanding family as people at work were watching over her and doing things with her. As I said she was a really sweet kid. She wouldn't have used a IDGAF to her mother, but the group cheered on the day she said quite forcefully that she'd moved and wasn't coming home to baby sit the kids as she'd found a new place to live.

In death she was still as narcissistic as she was in life, all about here. Eventually my daughter got a call to me, I said I wouldn't be going. I wasn't invited to the funeral.
