I recently picked up that VMP edition of the Meters' Rejuvenation, I only had one album by them previously (their last, a vintage copy) so I've been sorely lacking when it comes to them...that's going to change, need to seriously prioritize getting more of their music. Cool you have an original, that would probably never turn up here. Seeing a lot of Sparks these days, I had never even heard of them before starting here on YT. Still never heard anything by them to the best of my knowledge. Nice you have some CanCon as your top pick, we heard those B.T.O. hits on the radio a lot here growing up, surprisingly though I've never seen a huge amount of their records around. Was on the island where Randy Bachman lives last summer, spotted a concert bill for one of his shows when walking around town there, I was the only one who knew who he was lol. Think my dad met his son once, years back. Cheers Steve!

Every bargain bin in the states is filled with BTO. They sold tonnage with Not Fragile being their pinnacle. I had all their album but nothing could match the power of this one. Still $1 record. Sparks had a few minor hits in the US but never took off until that stupid documentary that jacked up all the prices of their albums. Damn that Netflix. I have 2 other Meter albums but this one is the best, hands down in my opinion Doug.

1974 was a fun year...I can distinctly remember being three years old and I was mainly listening to Cat Stevens on a 45 of 'Morning is Broken'. It was Damon Albarn of all people who introduced me to The Meters - he was featured in a festive issue of 'Q' magazine where various stars lined up to talk about what they'd been listening to throughout the year, and he talked about the Meters. It was roundabout the time I was discovering Dr John, so that was good timing, as they backed him on a couple of albums. I found a copy of Not Fragile last year, really enjoyed it but need to revisit. Great selection Steve.

Very nice promo copy of Grevous Angel. You are right in saying that Emmy Lou Harris is an integral and important part of that album. I am in dire need of more Eno albums, all I have is the debut solo album. There are some great albums you are showing, and the interesting thing is, the only one I have in my collection is the Gram Parsons album, and I just barely got that one (a reissue). Every single one of the albums you showed are ones that I would love to add, but just haven't ran into any good copies, or haven't been able to buy yet. I keep hearing how great that Betty Davis album is. At least I used to have the BTO album, and I agree it is their best. And it actually gets quite heavy in a few places. Great albums!

Regretfully that was pretty much the extent of my albums from 1974. Someday I will find more but these were important albums to me. A nice selection, if somewhat limited. :) For Santana, I would have gone with Lotus, I think. For the blues, I may have gone for Muddy Waters & Howlin' Wolf - London Revisited. My friend, Paul and I had so much fun with that Lou Reed live album back in 1974. We'd play it to friends, and challenge them to guess who it was. None of them would get it until the opening chords of 'Sweet Jane' started. Had you realised that the backing band was basically the original Alice Cooper band (without Alice, obviously)? I don't have anything by Witch as of yet, but I will. I remember the single, 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet', charting in the UK back then. I loved it. The BTO albums pretty much passed me by at the time, albeit I do have them now - just haven't played them enough. I have a lot more from that year (as I'm sure you did too, before the flood (unintentional reference to one of my picks there) While I agree that it was amazing how many bands that I expected to figure in my list just happened to skip that year, I had no trouble listing (in no particular order) 50 albums I wouldn't be without. David Bowie - Diamond Dogs Mott the Hoople - The Hoople Cockney Rebel - The Psychomodo Nucleus - Under the Sun Hawkwind - Hall of the Mountain Grill Amon Düül II - Hijack Can - Limited edition Frank Zappa - Apostrophe (') Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark Joni Mitchell And The LA Express - Miles Of Aisles Melanie - Madrugada Leonard Cohen - New Skin For The Old Ceremony Neil Young - On The Beach Bob Dylan / The Band - Before The Flood Steeleye Span - Now We Are Six Ralph Mctell - Easy Bert Jansch - LA Turnaround Funkadelic - Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On Isotope - Illusion Arthur Brown - Dance Augustus Pablo - This Is Augustus Pablo Ras Michael & the Sons of Negus - Nyahbinghi King Tubby / The Upsetter - King Tubby Meets The Upsetter At The Grass Roots Of Dub Sadistic Mika Band - Black Ship If - Not Just Another Bunch Of Pretty Faces Ayers Rock - Big Red Rock Skyhooks - Living in the 70's (sic) Focus - Hamburger Concerto Pretty Things - Sweet Torpedo Horslips - Dancehall Sweethearts Fungus - Fungus Strawbs - Hero and Heroine Be Bop Deluxe - Axe Victim Blue Oyster Cult - Secret Treaties Gong - You Guru Guru - Dance of the Flames Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band - Unconditionally Guaranteed Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour '74 Mike Oldfield - Hergest Ridge King Crimson - Red The Incredible String Band - Hard Rope & Silken Twine The Edgar Winter Group - Shock Treatment Secret Oyster - Sea Son Man - Rhinos, Winos & Lunatics Ducks Deluxe - Ducks Deluxe Jack the Lad - It's... I do have Veedom Fleece, not sure how I missed that but I don’t have Supertramp or the Neil You g album anymore. No Bowie or Aerosmith or Rory. Yup, not many to choose from lol
