@@vincei4252 I am so lucky with my wife. My shack is in the bedroom. She bought me the 3 desks I have set up. She put them together. She has no problem at all being in there at night and listening to me on the radio. She has never said a thing about my 2 towers, many antenna's ect. I even had to put the excavator in her flower garden, dig up plants, and dig a 6 foot hole for an anchor point for one of the towers. She helps me raise and lower the 70 foot tilt over rohn I built. I know many hams have a wife that does not support, or understand the hobby. Mine knows I enjoy it. We even work together every day. Not often when 2 people can be married and work plus live together. So I kid a lot, and even showed her the post I wrote. She even laughed. We all need to smile some, and have some fun.

@@1958johndeere620 That is awesome. You are so right about finding someone that you can share interests with. Passed the exam a few weeks ago and still waiting for the callsign. As it is impossible toy buy a decent hf rig here in Serbia for a normal price, I will have to improvise. I plan to retrofit an old Eddystone 5500 with an arduino controlled vfo. And for digital/qrp modes, to use only arduino with some filters and amplifiers. If all goes well, I should be on air by springtime :) Other than that, my best buy this year was definitely the Belka DX receiver, one of few East European made devices that you can actually buy. Malamute transceivers also look great, but seem impossible to procure.

My favorite things I got in 2020 was a semi auto bullpup shotgun from black aces tactical and a semi auto bullpup 308 rifle from desert tech. I'm hoping to get back into ham one of these days. I have 2 more guns on my list before I go back to trying ham again. I got my tech license a few years ago and only bought a bundle pack of 10 Bfang ht for my shtf supply gear. I only used them the first winter when I was plowing snow with a bunch of guys. I never upgraded because I never really felt like I fit in at the local club. I felt like the guys that had been doing this as long as I have been alive didn't have time or interest in helping me learn the ropes. It also felt messed up when I had gone to 5 meetings and a new guy in his 1st meeting was given several base station radios, amps, antennas and a 50' tower. Doing that in front of me after I had been asking if anyone had used equipment I could buy to get started setting up something at home. They own the only repeater I can reach with my ht so I gave up for a while.

@@HamRadioCrashCourse First let me say I think your videos are outstanding and first class hower I believe there is room for discussion. For example when you simply say use a resonant antenna. Well there in lies the HUGE problem. You hit the nail on the head. So if you want to use all the bands as many people do you may have to carry many antenns with you which is a pain. Or you may be FORCED into using antennas you do not like. Lets now talk 80 meters. Everyone knows you CANNOT be resonant on the entire band you must use an antenna analyser to get good swr on the entire band. Now lets talk chameleon end fed non resonant micro wire antenna’s like I love to use. It is one simple wire and with an antenna analysr I can talk on all bands from 160 meters to 6 meters. So I believe this radio bas FLOPPED on its face not having an internal antenna tuner for convienyence. Now having said all that I may end up buying one of these wonderful radios anyway is because icom (to cover theis rear ends I believe) yesterday on Christmas day just released its brand new small automatic external antenna tuner made just for this radio called the AH-705. It is this fact that allows me to raise this radio out of the garbage pile and place it on top of the heap is now with this new small lightweight external antenna tuner I am able to use any antenna I want including my beloved micro-cha chameleon light weight wire antenna that I cherish because of its simplicity and ease of use.

Ji Josh, you were asking for the top 10. My top 5 is: 1. the QRM eliminator which I picked up at Aliexpres and makes HF communication possible again. 2. Icom IC-705. 3. Wimo controlled polarization switches, Hor, Vert, Circular L/R 4. Wimo X-quad antennas 70cm and 2m for satellite communication 5. Yaesu G-5500 rotator I am very interested in packet radio and APRS using the IC-705 incl. the internal GPS haven't found anything yet about that so far. Regards. Martin. 73, PD1MV

Hope to one day trade out my ft818 for an ic705. I’ve only been able to afford well used radios, like my ic7200. Fits everything I’d want to do with a radio. Really enjoy going to random parks and chatting 1k miles on 5w. Double thumbs up on signal stick antennas. Both my used ht’s have been upgraded to them. Should come stock from the factory with them.
