My Favorite Arcade Was DESTROYED!

Today I'm back at the NEW Great Canadian Midway Arcade in Niagara Falls Canada. This arcade was recently remodeled. No more tokens, tickets, and almost all of the classic arcade ticket games have been taken out. Not many original games remain, and a card system has replaced the old format. While It's depressing to see another one of my childhood arcades slowly disappear, I know that these changes are needed to keep this place running and thriving for years to come. I will soon grow to love the new and biggest arcade located in the heart of Niagara Falls on Clifton Hill.

They just switch to card because it's cheaper since they don't need to buy tickets or stock tokens. It's just stocking cards, but honestly, you could go even cheaper and make a digital card.

It's really sad Erik, I'm really bummed they took out physical tickets and tokens at Great Canadian Midway, I still do remember the times when you recorded a video there and I enjoyed the moment of winning Jackpots with tickets spitting out, now they changed everything to cards, seems like tokens are no longer in Canada, but well I really don't know what to do with my tickets I saved up either...

You could try and give your receipts to the counter, and they will transfer the tickets to your card.

5:19 I saw that shooting gallery game in Niagara Falls! It was not in an arcade so it was just a stand alone attraction outside in the city. I thought it was weird because they had a bootleg sarge from Disney cars. Also, I didn’t even know this game appeared in an arcade! I also didn’t know this game gives you tickets, because I thought this was a “just for fun” arcade game, because I thought it was not really a game, but more of just an interactive attraction.

As upsetting as it is to see the tokens & tickets go,this was by far the best change this place could have done. I still remember back when I was here in august,over half of my tokens were eaten by arcade games and even when I hit the jackpot on wonder wheel,the game was out of tickets. I genuinely fell like the cards should be redesigned to show a photo of the tokens with the logo under it. That would probably be one of the greatest changes to this place and hopefully (probably not happening) they do that design on the cards.

As much as it sucks, I know that this change is NEEDED for this place! The thing I will miss the most are the classic games (not the amount of times they’re broken though), and of course the paper tickets and tokens. I want this place around for many more years so this change was definitely needed even if there’s parts I will miss.

I only saw a double sided winner every time claw machine at fun dungeon, but instead of candies, they had squishies on the right side. I didn’t play it because their claw machines are so expensive! They were all 50 credits! Their games are more expensive than round 1 and Dave and busters!

Change is never easy, I will always prefer tokens and tickets to cards, but I suppose change can be good overtime. Only time will tell… at least we will always have the memories!

@@ArcadeWarrior If you want an amazing tokens and tickets arcade,I would recommend going to Marvin’s marvelous mechanical museum in Farmington hills,Michigan. Not only does it have classic ticket games,but also amazing retro video game like Pac Man,space invaders,and even beat em’ ups such as the Simpson and x men!

This is... very disappointing to see. The Great Canadian Midway's main draw for me was their old games and tokens, so to see it mostly stripped of these really is a letdown. And to think I was going to drive out there to play some Wheel Deal for the first time in years. Hopefully, some of the other arcades in the area still have tickets and tokens and classic games. I'd still love to swing by Niagara Falls to see what I can play.

Thank you, Erik. It sounds like inflation is at work: full prices with no techs to fix the machines, so the player gets screwed. These arcades should have useful prizes available, such as a pack of bolagna for a sandwich, maybe a jar of peanut butter, some wet wipes, etc., instead of goofy stuffed toys that end up in the garbage.
